Worst Little Podcast – Episode 25

Sexy Vinyl

Some days, you just never know what you’re going to get.
This is going to be fun. I have no idea of what this podcast sounds like or what happens when the ‘tape’ was rolling. If you haven’t figured it out by now, this mightbe Rory. I wasn’t feeling too well this week and had to take the night off. Nick takes the helm this episode, hanging out with and entertaining the guys from Elephant Rifle. And since Chewie is still blowing us off, Rick had to be the wingman this week so we’re all fuckerd up.

Brad was caught unawares by the stealthy photographer.

One bit of exciting news is that we’d like to welcome a new sponsor – Grassroots Books. It’s a great new and used bookstore with low prices that rhyme with ‘ninety-nine’. Seriously, $10 bucks can give you an impressive looking shelf at home, even if you’ve never read any of them! They have sales ALL the time. Go there to show them that people actually listen to this show! Mention you heard about them on the Worst Little Podcast and GET A FREE BOOK!! Look at that, how we come through for you. Now come through for us! Check out teh Grassroots Books.

If Reno IS destroyed in a firey holocaust, I want it to look like this.

Back to Elephant Rifle: They have a new album out, as featured at the top of the post. Go buy one! Go see them at their next show, which I am sure is mentioned on the podcast, right, Nick? I’m pretty sure they are a really good hardcore band, but I’m going to have to listen along with you. They better not have fucked it up.I bet it’s a great show. Thanks for listening.

Worst Little Podcast – Episode 024

How could you NOT trust faces like these?

Hot enough for ya? Actually, we’ve all been enjoying the pretty awesome weather we’ve been having this summer. HOWEVER, the studio is quite different. Our cooling system is mildly noisy – an ancient window unit and a ceiling fan with a 2″ wobble (no shit – there have been times I’ve thought it was going to shake itself loose and kill me).
We start the show off this week remembering a good friend of ours, Jim Martin. He passed away this past Friday, surrounded by loved ones. Jim was a prolific director, educator, patron of the arts and a generally “hardcore awesome” guy. His family plans to organize a celebration of his awesomeness in the next few weeks. Check Brüka and Good Luck MacBeth for details soon. Jim’s final directorial work, Oedipus: the King will continue its run, through July 30th at Brüka Theater. Additionally there will be a staged reading of his adaptation of Clytemnestra on July 24th, also at Brüka. Jim was a visionary and active force in the Reno arts community. He will be sorely missed.
In studio we have some of the people we’ve tricked into advertising with us our sponsors, Faith and Josh from Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor! Normally, they say a lot more but the microphones scared them. Or maybe it was the heat. And the beer. Probably the beer. We are happy to have them on board with us (as if you couldn’t tell). They were less than happy that we had them come over ans sit in the sweat lodge for a 5 minute plug. Ah! The joys of fake radio. Josh and Faith end their segment powering through the first and fastest Rapid Fire Quiz.
After the break, we shoot the breeze with notorious Reno rockers Walk of Shame, on the road back from self-destruction, playing great music while they do it (at least, on the CD they sound pretty good). Jeff Done, Suta Bogale and Dan Harmon make it in with us.  Preston didn’t make it because he’s a freaking flaky-ass drummer and we don’t like him anyway! *grumble grumble* We share some spectacular bad ideas we’ve all had over the years.
Nick has an update on the Hella Acapella Saga. Rory throws some shout-outs to some new listeners (is it YOU???) and has presents. Chewie is back out in the field (…well, really under it) and Rick hasn’t done a goddamned thing because he’s on vacation – for real this time!
We had a lot of fun this week and hope you do too. Thanks for listening.

The Rythm Section – Nick and Roger

The Leader – Mr. Tobin Jones!

Back in the saddle again!
At least for now – Chewie is going out on the job for about a month. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out Good luck, friend! We wish you well!
How about that new logo! A big big BIG thank you to Felix Polanski for designing that for us. Coming soon to a T-shirt near you.
Back to this week- in studio we have the righteous talents of Present, the humbe side of Reno supergroups. Present is Tobin Jones, Roger Rowland and WLP’s own Nick Ramirez – three long-time veterans of the Reno music scene. Present has a lineup of really tight, pretty, and rockin’ songs (chick rock). The boys are all married, so condolences to all the Present groupies awaiting them throughout Northern Nevada. Seriously though, Present is still a pretty new band and they have a TON of upcoming shows – that only happens if you’ve got the goods. Since they don’t have much of an internet presence, you’ll have to listen to the WHOLE show to find out where they are playing next.
Nick brings a special story to tell about the ongoing dmise of Hella A Capella, Reno’s only a capella group. It’s truly a heart- warmer you can read to your kids at night. It’s too bad what happened, and you might think Nick was kinda being a dick (lol) but we wish the remaining members of the band well in the future.
That’s it for this week. And remember, if you’re going to get a tattoo, make it a Stingray Tattoo – mention you heard about them on the podcast!
Thanks for listening.

Worst Little Podcast – Episode 022

Sweet Georgia

Sweet Georgia, …all that and SASSY, too!

Happy Fourth of JUly!!!

First off, a big thanks to anyone who has served in our armed forces, civil services or the general public good. Thanks for participating in democracy, instrad of spectating, and doing your part to making the United States of America Teh United States of Awesome. If you njoy your barbecue and don’t blow your hand off – you’ll need that to check out Stingray Tattoo for your patriotic ink!

Today we have the super hot, brassy and ballsy, lovely and talented (and did I mention HOT?!?!!!) MISS Georgia Mowers. A long time friend of the show, Georgia is kicking more ass than ever and not just because she’s all out of bubble gum. She has been in hiding; travelling, learning and developing as a person and as a performer. She hasn’t been active much recently, but has an upcoming Pushbox reunion and debuts some of her new solo originals that she has been working on, going under the solo nom de plume of The Lark. DAMN that girl can sing. Listen in and check out the details for the Pushbox show. It’s a good time.

I really meant to get this podcast up a few days ago, but the weekend just kind of got away from me. Too much fun stuff to do in town, between the Outsleazed Fest, Aceball, Arttown, NMA, the river, great weather, festivals, cook-offs barbecues,…

Get out and enjoy this place, you god-forsaken fools!!!! Also don’t forget to visit Jub Jub’s Thiest Parlor next weekend for their 1 year anniversary shindig! FYDx365!!!

Oh, and thanks for listening!

Worst Little Podcast – Episode 021

We gonna kick it old-skool.

Yeah, well, due to some scheduling difficulties and missed connections we had no guest this week. Instead, we play a few more songs from the Great Undiscovered 2011 show and get caught up on a bunch of things we’ve wanted to talk about. Rory and Nick and Josh do NOT talk about the secrets of the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus, although they do talk about some of Rory’s experiences at the most recent doin’s in Virginia City.

Bagleheads and amputation also take up a good chunk of the conversation. If you don’t know what a baglehead is, you gotta listen to the whole show! At some point Cody drops in and contributes to the amputation side of the conversation. Nick stares blankly at the wall and doesn’t say much during this segment.

Don’t forget to check out the Outsleazed Fest, July 1-3 at Jub Jub’s and Shea’s. Listen for more details or contact those fine establishments for info. It’s going to be a great show with 30+ scummy punk bands from all over the west coast including hometown heroes Gehenna, The Shames and Elephant Rifle.

Also according to Rick in a text message this morning, “Josh is funnier than I thought.” So all in all, a good show – Enjoy!

And thanks for listening.

Worst Little Podcast – Episode 20 <—- a milestone! Thanks for listening!

Layla James

FINALLY!! A professional! (really? her?)

It has been a while! Good to be with you!

We return with a tempered vengance and too much to talk about! Neither Rory nor Nick got to talk about everything they wanted to get to. We are proud to announce a brand new sponsor of the show, STINGRAY TATTOO. Check out the oldest custom tattoo shop in Reno online at www.stingraytattoo.net or their Facebook page. We also recap the events of the past two weekends (Rick-stock and the Block Party), toothaches and plagues, and sadly, the passing of Dogwater Studios’ mascot, Ichabod Speck Spagnola. A fine chihuahua he was, and a longtime member of the Reno scene. Show a little love and pet a dog, bitches.

Jackson Truckle of Spike and Jackson

Mr. Personality!

In studio we have some great friends and a new friend with us. Layla James of Rock 104.5 FM and iamlaylajames (and TV and commercials and all sorts of other cool stuff we’re all jealous of) hangs out with us and films us for her own video blog. She was a blast and welcome to take a chairor call in any time she wants. Unfazed by any and all questions. As opposed to Jackson Truckle of Spike and Jackson who spoke maybe 7 and 1/2 words, aside from singing.

Spike and Jackson's very own Spike!

He plays so fast enough to look like an amputee!

That’s right – on the Internets for the first time EVAR: Spike and Jackson!!! They so old school, they don’t have computers! These stone age rockers throw down a couple of tracks and join in with the (Ever-Evolving) Worst Quiz Ever. Also, join us for our first installment of “What’s Matty Drinking?”, hopefully a brand new segment centered around intoxication. In addition to being a mild-mannered news guy on KOH, Matt is a loyal fan and good buddy. We’ll check back with him next week.

My bow-tie and I wish you adieu!

We’re Calling in Sick.

Hello, constant listener and the Intrawebz,

We hate to do it, but we had to cancell the episode this week due to the failing health of half of the crew. Rick has the plague and Rory’s got a hole in his tooth. I’d go into greater detail, but it makes Nick squirm… so we’ll save it for the show next week!

In case you were interested, the Reno Block Party and Undiscovered 2011 (a.k.a. Rick-stock) were great! Huge successes and a grand old time were had by all! Thanks for attending if you did – it’s events like these that make Reno so freaking awesome! And thanks to all the bands that played; we’re going to try to book as many of them as possible in the coming months (Very Pretty Pigeon, Memory Motel… I’m looking at you….).

Exciting news – We gots stickers!!!!! A big shout out to the fine folks over at Sticker Guy! (Eric Foreman)  for hooking us up with some sweet worstlittlepodcast.com stickers. Want some? Leave a comment – we’ll sent them to you!

Don’t forget to check out NadaDada Motel this week – June 16 through 19 at locations all over downtown Reno.  Local artists and performers collaborate once again in a celebration of nothing and everything. Still not sure what NadaDada is? It doesn’t matter. Just go.

Trust us! We know what we’re doing!

Worst Little Podcast – Episode 019 BONUS EPISODE!!! EXTRA LONG!!!!

The saying goes, “No place to go but up from here.”
They’re wrong.
Part two includes music from Werm, Sprout, Mudsharks, Cranium, Phat Couch, The Atomiks, and Gunshot Licker
So this is Part Two of the Memorial Day Meltdown. I still say it’s a bad idea.  BUT there is joy in mudville. In our first segment, (mostly) Rory  talks with J-bot from Captured! By Robots. The mechanical tyrants have him out on a tour again, bruising his tender meaty appendages to lug them and their gear across this country. He will be finishing his latest tour this weekend in our fair mountains. Check him out on Friday 6/10 at Whiskey Dick’s in Tahoe or on Saturday 6/11 at Tonic in Reno. It should be a great show – The bots have some new tricks up their … cladding… and are ready to rip your faces off with rock and roll! … and titanum instrumentation.

Those shows will be around rock and roll time, so if you’re out and about in Reno on Saturday, come by Wingfield Park downtown. Guerilla Productions are putting on the Reno Block party there all day long – 10am to 10 pm. Just in time to catch a little C!BR action. Those kids are still in the studio (mostly) this episode, although there were some casualties along the way. Bullet Bar Dave, Jessalicious, the Kodiak and Felix P all stick around with us too.
Part two includes music from Werm, Sprout, Mudsharks, Cranium, Phat Couch, The Atomiks, and Gunshot Licker
Once we get past the interview with Captured! By Robots, the shouting match Top Ten List  resumes, and we spend the rest of the show trying to make it through the list as fast as a room full of drunkards can focus on anything. That’s most of the reason that this is such a long episode (nearly 2 hours)!

Anyway, we apologize in retrospect and thank you in advance! Enjoy the show!

Worst Little Podcast – Episode 018

This episode is such a bad idea….

What a day, what a day! This week’s Worst Little Podcast in the World is a special episode – the first of a two-part investigative journalism expose booze fest in the studio! We FINALLY have finished compiling your picks for the Top Ten All-Time Reno Bands and present the first half of that list This episode with more to come next week. We actualy recorded two episodes this week so that Rick could take some time off for a vacation next week. Part one includes 7 Seconds, Fall Silent, The Shames, Orange Peel, B.O.H.J., War Maggots, Keyser Soze
Since it was such a special show, we opened up our doors to a lot of people this week and it’s kind of a madhouse. We have Squeak, Christine Irma Geddon, and Jess Blaze form Guerilla Productions on talking about bringing live music back to Burning Man and their upcoming Reno Block Party. Part one includes 7 Seconds, Fall Silent, The Shames, Orange Peel, B.O.H.J., War Maggots, Keyser Soze

Felix Polanski and Bullet Bar Dave stop in to share the libations. Da Kodiak and Cerrybear Jess are in the house too. Nick gets all loosey goosey and plays musical microphones all hour and Rory slowly looses his shit as he looses control. No time for the Worst Quiz Ever – we gots too much music and booze to get to!  Part one includes 7 Seconds, Fall Silent, The Shames, Orange Peel, B.O.H.J., War Maggots, Keyser Soze
Also, we talk up the BEST event happening in the Washoe Valley this weekend – the (Un)Discovered 2011 Backyard BBQ! We throw a rockshow in Rick’s backyard. Free all-day event, the whole city is invited, come see some of your favorite local bands and get you some barbecue! Listen to the whole episode to find out the address – hell, think of this podcast as your personal, gold embossed invitation.

And, as always, thanks for listening.

Worst Little Podcast – Episode 017

Mr. Vague

Buy my record! … damn kids…

We’re late to the party, but RIP Macho Man. You will live in out hearts forever.

Great episode this week with Mark Earnest in the studio. He talks with us about his current projects including Dirt Communion and the Vague Choir, we listen to some previously unreleased Vitriolics, and well, bullshit about things that have nothing to do with him. Like Marianarchy, for one!

Nick has great news about how much we raised at Marianarchy over the past weekend. We all talk about how much fun we had there too, except for Rick. He’s against fun. He spent the whole weekend recording and mixing bands in the studio. Cause he thinks that’s fun. Cause he’s a fag nerd. Rory tells a bizzare story about someone, then figures out that he totally had the wrong person and is a jackass. Chewie… well, the less said about him, the better.

Speaking of jackasses… we were supposed to have a mysetery caller during the show. But then he flaked. Maybe he thought we meant next week…

NEXT WEEK: Part one of a Worst Little Podcast cliffhanger!
