S14E16: KNVC 95.1 FM: On The Air With Funk & Houk
95.1 FM KNVC is community radio programmed for the people by the people, headed up by Steve Funk and Will Houk who, much to our pleasure and invite, dropped by the Dogwater Studios to give us the four one one on what’s happening with their totally rad homegrown radio station in Carson City.

For one thing Will is creating
a local music show and KNVC wants your local music. Listen in for how to do that.
We talk about DJs, history and bringing people together with music

Steve and Will give us a live performance each, and we get a track from our buddy Liam Kyle Cahill as well as a couple from the late local musical wiz Colin Ross.
It’s a great conversation with real live radio folk who consider it an art form. As do we.

Grass roots local community radio is having a revival all across the country and we’re definitely here for it. So do yourself a favor, check it out, consider getting involved and remember, life is short and we love you. Thanks for listening.

#550 S14E15 Dave Berry: Long Road Driven
This week for our 550th episode, we have a personal hero of ours, family man, talented athlete, songwriter and brilliant guitarist Dave Berry of the well known rocking funk outfit Jelly Bread.

We first talked with him way back in the first season of the podcast, 2011, towards the end of his then band PufferBilly.
He then declared he was quitting his day job and going for full time musician, and taking his shot with powerhouse drummer Cliff Porter and Dave’s sister Jackie who sang with him in PufferBilly.

Well he did it.
Jelly Bread played well over 200 shows a year for several years and established themselves as a tight professional level, funky jam band that never disappoints.
But after the pandemic, tour fatigue, band personnel changes and a family crisis, Dave was led to work on a solo album with his sister. The results delivering beautiful blood harmonies and genuine human emotion. Musically and lyrically.

We get the heart wrenching details and listen to a handful of sweet, soulful tracks as well as a couple live acoustic songs in the studio.
Dave’s stories were so vivid, interesting and relatable that we couldn’t find time for the quiz.
Enjoy a real open, honest and touching episode with a real Reno rocker done good.
Thanks for sharing with us Dave.

Life is short and we love you.
Thanks for listening.
#549 S14E14 Greybush- Tyler Goes To Knob Noster
This week we have a great zoom chat with Tyler Edwards from the NorCal metal group Greybush.

Tyler says the name is because they’re men of a certain age and the changing colors not unlike the foliage in the fall. This isn’t their first rodeo in the music scene and with age comes experience and twenty twenty hindsight. That being said these heavy metal devotees share their particular brand and can sometimes be found on a bill in the biggest little city with their buds The Latest Fashion, but more often they play in the bay area, Humboldt, Sacramento and beyond when they tour. Tyler gives us the deets on commuting for shows from Missouri, why the new digs and how the band can function from such long distances.

We get several tracks from the new EP A Never Ending Search For Justice, including one dedicated to a member James, who recently left the band but is still a homie.

Tyler is super nice, hella funny, stoney, and a little self deprecating, so yeah, we hit it off.
Chewie and Kadillac Kim give us the weekend hot shows and as per usual with new guests, we play a great round of the worst little quiz.
So laugh with us, crank it up, throw your horns and bang your heads with Greybush. Thanks for being on the show Tyler! Life is short and we love you. Metal!
S14E13-Divine Defecation: Talkin’ Sh!t
Holy shit! This week’s guests hail from one of our musical sister cities, Nevada City California.

With Tony on drums, “Poop”Nick on guitar and demonic vocals and Sage on bass.

Devine Defecation are a tight dirty chunky Cookie Monster, stoner deathcore Heavy Metal thrash band,(I think that covers it) that are not to be poo poo’d! Needless to say they have riffs and a sense of humor, especially the potty variety. Very nice fellows who hauled their shit all the way to Dogwater Studios to hang out and rock for us. I hope they weren’t too pooped for the drive home. Thanks dudes. We loved your caca-funny of sound.

We shoot the shit about the Grass Valley and Sacramento metal scene, small town life and of course, all matters fecal. All kinds of shit. Bullshit, how shit happens, shitty jobs, eating shit figuratively and literally and shitting yourself. You know, our usual verbal diarrhea.
Kim gives us the real shit on what went down at the Reno punk rock flea market .
As is our doody we divinely defecate another worst little quiz that doesn’t go down the toilet.
This episode could have been a real turd but it wasn’t crappy at all. It was filthy, funny, a little juvenile and it rocked. You might even say it was the shit! I’d say possibly our number two episode of the season!
So get out there this weekend and tear shit up with your homies at your favorite venue in the biggest little shitty! Thanks for listening and giving a shit about us. We love you. Poop.
S14E12 Winnemucca Brown- Take You To Brown Town
Our guest this week is a man of many names, Freddie Fretless on Facebook, Jerry Leon in real life and his musical moniker Winnemucca Brown. He hitched his wagon all the way from eastern Nevada, take a guess where specifically. That’s right we win more than a Mucca this week as joining Jerry is his beautiful wife Tessa and Chewie’s back!

Rick gives us dads, who couldn’t make it, the scoop on the Reno Punk Rock Flea Market’s latest spectacular event that fell on 4/20 (Kadillac Kim’s birthday! HBD! We love you!).
Jerry gives us that intimate acoustipunk vibe and even brought his dog to meet Pongo and dog it up campfire style at the Dogwater studios. Dogs.

We also get a kickass track from Jerry’s band LNOY(Listless Numbers of Youth) .WB gives us the skinny in Winnemucca events and even a little history to Chewbacca’s delight.
A great head to head quiz between Mr and Mrs Brown and of course some suggestions for the upcoming week in Reno music.
Thanks Jerry and Tessa! ‘Twas a great hangout!
Life is short and we love you.
Thanks for listening.
S14 E10 repost: Rhiannon Box- Hello Unicorns, Goodbye Horses
*we don’t know why but this episode disappeared, hence the repost. Enjoy!
For our last installment of this year’s Women’s March, we have our good friend and multi-talented queen of the scene, Rhiannon Box!

When she’s not styling hair, heading up a theater company, creating award winning short films, or jamming with her band Stabby Unicorn, you might catch her at a pinball tournament, or she just might be working on her new solo record for ToneMark Sounds.
We get to listen to two new solo songs, some Stabby Unicorn and her acclaimed cover of Goodbye Horses. We think she’s the cat’s pajamas.
Rhiannon mixes her keyboards with an electronic soundboard thingy and Tony Ashworth is producing the album, adding a hint of industrial edge to the goth atmospheric vibes.
We can’t wait to hear the new album and maybe even the return of Stabby Unicorn.
We do a quiz for fun since RhiBox hasn’t been on the show for a while.
We also talk about the upcoming Cover Up 2024 show at the Alturas Cellar stage , put on by the incomparable Mark Earnest and featuring his band Manchild with Rhiannon covering a set of songs by The Cars. Other sets include Earnest’s other band Kanawha covering Soundgarden, the Scattering covering White Zombie, Mr. Johnson and His Loaded Dice covering the Misfits, Roxxy Collie covering REM and One Ton Dually covering Nirvana. That’s right, see Reverend Rory and Nick butcher the classics! One night only! Seriously though, the bands have been working hard and it should be hell of a barn burner.
Thanks Rhiannon and thank you listeners.
Life is short and we love you. Goodnight ladies!
S14E11 Bobby Joe Ebola & the Children MacNuggits: Phoning It In For The Win
MacNuggits: Phoning It In For
Room a zoom Zoom! Kim, Nick and Dogwater Dick were all able to podcast from the comfort of their own phones or computers as did our guest Dan Abbott from the band Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits.
These songs are all different genres mixed, telling detailed epic stories and it’s funny. They remind me of Frank Zappa, Tenacious D and Ween. The way the band plays whatever they want, what the song and story call for, whatever style. Folk, punk, metal, brass section, progressive and harmonies. Performed with precision and highly entertaining.

You can find them at bobbyjoeebola.com and all the platforms. They have a bunch of fantastic videos on YouTube as well. Go check them out.

Dan aces the quiz and
Nick and Kim review the Cover Up show and give you some hot show tips for another jam-packed musical weekend in the biggest little city.
Dick and Dan talk Star Trek and Shatner’s earlier work.

Why not? After all,
we’re the worst little podcast, we’re talking out of our ass!
Thanks for listening.
S14E9 Kat Heart- Wild At Heart
We’re halfway through our Women’s March and this week we’re joined by our friend and local folk rock hero Kat Heart! We were going to have one of her bands (Sierra Sirens, Kat Heart and the Business) on but the stars just didn’t align for that. Not to worry, Kat packed up her pedal board full of amazing textures, loops and even a pedal for her old school landline telephone microphone and headed right on over to the Dogwater Studios.

We were delighted by her one woman musical menagerie.
We seem to catch up with Kat every other year, so it’s been amazing to see the commitment, growth and development of her unique psychedelic soundscapes and soulful expressions. Her voice is sometimes soft and gentle and others gritty and powerful. Always interesting and always entertaining. One of Reno’s great ladies making music and memorable performances. Kat, we salute you. Keep up with Kat at katheart.net as well as Instagram and Facebook.

Kadillac Kim gives us the hot shows for your weekend enjoyment and we say farewell to a couple of dear friends and artists who have passed and where and when to see their art and celebrate their lives. Safe home Shannon O’Keeffe and Jess Holden, you truly will be missed.

To all the ladies. Thank you. We see you. We hear you. We love you. Keep going!
Thanks for listening.
S14E8- Kasey Christensen with Liam Kyle Cahill: Rock Soup
Our annual Women’s March continues with the soulful folk sounds of Kasey Christensen accompanied by her boyfriend, local folk hero Liam Kyle Cahill!
We had a ball getting to know this talented singer songwriter with her beautiful vocals and heartfelt songs.

Kasey also owns the popular restaurant Sűp so we talk a bit about that, community and supporting the arts. Both Liam and Kasey were recent grant recipients from the Nevada Arts Council and are both putting out new music with their grants.

A round of the worst little quiz is played and we welcome our cohost Ian back from a long hiatus.

You can catch Kasey and Liam on Wednesday, March 29th 7pm-9pm at Reno Public Market.

#542 S14E7 Robin Robinson-Burgled by Katherine Hepburn
After illness and snowstorms, we are back!
Kicking off our annual Women’s March salute to local ladies who make music, we have a blast from the past, singer songwriter Robin Robinson!
Robin and Nick were friends back in the 90’s, attending open mics and local shows at old school Reno venues like the Blue Lamp and the Zephyr.

They reunited at last year’s Marianarchy music festival where Robin played a beautiful set with a dancer performing with her on a few songs throughout. It was enchanting and special.
Not being able to catch up at the event, Nick was stoked Robin could come in and talk for a spell.

We play a fun round of the worst little quiz including close encounters with rock legends. Robin also gets the lowdown on the Nowhere Nevada movie.
It was a sweet, chill, and fun hang with a new old friend. Thanks for sharing your songs with us Mrs. Robinson! And thanks worst little listeners (especially our Patreon members! Patreon.com/worstlittlepodcast) for joining us. Life is short, and we love you.
