Attack of the Triflin’ B’s – S13 E3
This week we have half, or possibly two fifth’s, of Triflin’ Bitches: The mild-mannered Scott Sherwood on bass and local lunatic Logan Bongiovani on guitar and vocals. Unfortunately, the normally rock-solid drummer, Scott Hauder, couldn’t make it at the last minute (Nick adds some shakers and beatbox here and there). Also absent from the proceedings are the fingers and voices of John Frederick, the keyboardist. John has taken a gig in Hawaii and will be reuniting with the Bitches in half a year (for some half-naked, bad-decision fueled show, no doubt). In the meantime, the band will be shaking things up, having fun with new arrangements of their songs, and adding a female vocalist to the mix. Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
Logan gives us the low down on their new EP “Eu De Vistige” out now on bandcamp. We have a fun quiz and we meet our new intern Percy! We also get some fully produced studio tracks!
This Saturday 1/28/23 we will see you at our LIVE 500th episode show at Cypress in midtown with DJ StaxOfWax, Heterophobia, Elephant Rifle, the WLP crew, giveaways and fun! Come celebrate this milestone with us!
Life is short and we love you.
Thanks for listening!
Jonathan Louis – Hand Solo – S13 E2
Welcome back, Renophiles! This week’s guests are session musicians Jonathan Louis and Darion Jordan from The Band Cell, friends of the show! The Band Cell has been on a few times before, which you can check out here and here. However, THIS time is even more specialer as we check out Jonathan’s solo drummer rock opera experience, “Power. Passion. Drums!”, relased with the new year.
Due to the snow and icy roads, we decided to have the show over Zoom. It’s always more fun in person but whatcha gonna do? Safety first! (or third) We make the best of it online with two of the nicest rippers of rock, prog, and humor in the Reno-Tahoe area. Join us for the fun and a little insanity.
…And join us for our 500th episode LIVE! at Cypress music hall in midtown Reno Saturday January 28th at 7pm with DJ StaxOfWax, Heterophobia, and ELEPHANT RIFLE! Hope to see you there!
Thanks for listening!
Boss’ Daughter – Endless PARTYTIME – S13 E1
Happy New Year, friends and listeners! Welcome back!
We are so happy to have one of the hardest working bands out there kicking off Season 13! The honed and road tested Boss’ Daughter! Bossy D is Jamie Locks (drums), Danny Paul (bass), and Chris Fox (lead singer and guitar).
8 years deep in their prolific and seemingly endless adventures in punk rock, they’re recently signed onto a new label, SBAM RECORDS, released a new 7″ “Okay/Photography,” and have a busy tour schedule planned for 2023. They’re on fire and ready to party all over the US, starting with a ten day west coast stint that kicked off a few days after recording this show!
We’ve had the pleasure of checking in on this punk power trio since their inception. As well as with their various other projects, especially Chris (who’s been in like 69 bands I believe). They’re still fast, furious, deep, and hilarious.
They are having a record release show at 40 Mile Saloon February 18th for the new album “Bouts With Bummers” which drops February 10th. We hear a bunch of songs from said record and a song called Bouts With Bummers that’s not on the album of the same name. You’ll just have to listen for why that is.
It was a high energy kick in the pants this week, that’s for sure.
Join us for our live 500th Episode celebration at Cypress music hall on Saturday January 28th 7pm with DJ StaxOfWax , Heterophobia and Elephant Rifle! See the event page on Facebook.
Life is short and we love you. It’s good to be back!

Worst Little Holiday Special 2022
It’s the most wonderful time of the year at the Dogwater studios as we close out season 12 with our annual holiday family episode. That rare occasion that actual children are in the studio!
We were bummed the Dowd’s caught a plague bug and couldn’t join the live show, but are pleased Reverend Rory could send a special message.
We have some merry tunes from Screeching Weasel, Last One Down , Kingwhistler, and Kittenhead!
New Year’s resolutions are made, love is shared , and we get the abridged tale of Elvis and Hamburger James as told by Dogwater Dick.
We just want to thank you all for listening and wish you and yours the merriest Christmas, bestest festivus or whatever you celebrate, and a happy prosperous New Year.
We’ll be back in January for Season 13 and Episode 500!
Thanks For Listening!
The Five-Timers Club – Back for More
Some people just don’t know when to stay down. As we wrap up Season 12, we thought we’d close out with a round-up of our most frequent regular guests. At the suggestion of Josiah Knight, this week’s episode is exclusively guests who have been on the show at least five times in the last 12 years. In addition to our favorite murderhobo, Josiah, we are joined by Mark Earnest (Kanawha, Manchild), Jen Scaffidi (Blunderbusst, Wizard Colors), Dan Steinmetz (Thee Saturday Knights, Manchild), Spike McGuire (Loud As Folk), and Greg GIlmore (Greg Gilmore and the Fever Dreams, Loud As Folk). There’s even a track from Johnny Harpo, who couldn’t make it – but that’s exclusive to our Patreon subscribers, as you’ll come to find out. Repeatedly.
This show is a lot of fun – a lot of jokes and reminiscing and a live track from Greg Gilmore opens the whole thing. Its a real treat to call all of these wonderful humans and noted musicians our friends, and to get a chance to sit down and talk with them like this.
Lots of great shows happening this weekend, and you’ll have to listen to hear our picks, but the one you should care about is the one that happens hours after this is published – The Holiday Hammering at The Cellar at Alturas. Brought to you by the Rock Solid Pressure Show, the evening’s entertainment includes performances from A Wormhole Could Kill Us All, One Ton Dually, FloodFireDeathDrought, and Manchild. IT’s aso a celebration for Nick and The Rev’s birthdays! So come through if you’re out in Reno tonight.

Pussy Velour – Electric Chemistry
What started as a Halloween Cramps cover band just over a year ago has become one of the hottest and most talked about Reno rock bands in quite some time: I’m talking about the haute trash rock group Pussy Velour! With Wolfgang on vocals, Claire on electric guitar, Cale bass and Quinn drums, Pussy Velour is an electrifying garage rock band with mad scientist chemistry.
Wolfgang is no stranger to the spotlight, having played in bands since he was 14, but his bandmates are relatively new to the art of rocking. Claire’s first time on stage was their first show; You couldn’t tell though. They feel like a band that has already toured the country and are ready to tear it up – any time, any place.
Pussy Velour boldly brings it in the tradition of The Cramps, Iggy Pop, The Ramones, and more obscure sounds like Dub Narcotic Sound System meets The John Spencer Blues Explosion in a Dancehall style, but punker.
Its rock and roll for the people, embracing the beautiful freaks, weirdos, and misfits. Let your flag fly!
If it’s not dangerous it’s not real rock and roll. Their live shows aren’t planned; whatever happens is the show, keeping each performance spontaneous and unique – dirty, sexy, wild, fun and in your face!
We also recap the fantastic Reno Punk Rock Flea Market: Fleas The Season event and this weeks quiz is a gem – a sexy, sexy gem.
Thanks for listening!
Tom Gordon – For the Record – S12 E34
Wham! Just like that: another day, another episode! Although it’s another week of canned music – this is the good stuff. Iconic Reno-based sound engineer Tom Gordon stops by to share with us more stories from behind the scenes in the glamorous life of an audio recording professional.
Tom and Dr. D are celebrating 40 years of recording at the (now) iMirage Sound Lab. It just so happens that Tom brought some of his favorite tracks from over the years, along with their backstories. Much of the work is out of love, for the music, but also for others, including Battle Scar, a production benefitting the American Indian Graduate Center and Washoe County School District Music Education and also the greatest Rush song you’ve never heard of – tune in to catch the rest of the story!
We could talk to Tom all day about his adventures in engineering, but all good things come to an end, until next time – always next time. We do have some great events to plug – this weekend’s Punk Rock Flea Market Fleas the Season, and a kickass kickoff preshow and grand after party! A great time to get some DIY gifts for the holidays and beyond. It is a family event – kiddos 12 and under are free – with events like the plushie pit, the popular car smash, full size whack-a-human, rage yoga and more.
As always, thanks for listening.
Slutzville – Trapped by Travesty
Well, hi there – does anyone still listen to this show? It’s been a few weeks since we put out an, between a holiday, new work schedules and a few bouts with COVID. We were so excited to bring you our friends, Slutzville, LIVE from the luxurious Dogwater Studios. But nay; the weather and automobiles have conspired against us this month and kept Nat and Jessi on their side of the mountain early this season.
We were able to get a Zoom show in with them (and my dumbass forgot to take screenshots, so all you get are their own stock photos). It was a lot of fun talking about their busy year. Unfortunately, they also had to cancel their set at Mortville Pride at Holland Project the following weekend. We will keep you posted on when they come back to town – we need to get them in the studio!
Punk Rock Flea Market’s Fleas the Season is coming up. Rev is hosting at the event – 4 days of music. Holiday Chaos! Listen in for details and more details in the next episode
Thanks For Listening
Mr. Johnson – Twisted Mister
This week is Marianarchy days 3 and 4, so who better to come in than the band with our beneficiary Andy Hernandez in it. No, not Los Pistoleros (although both guest are in that group), it’s a new country murder-ballad project by Murderock drummer Zachery Johnson, aptly dubbed MR. JOHNSON . That’s right metal/horror rockers: country western music! And it’s good! Zach never really sang much in Murderock, but DAAAAAAaamn – it turns out he can croon! Combined with story-songs and Andy’s slap bass, this act is ready to jump in the van and tear up the road.
We listen to how they started; how death, near death, and living, continue to shape both Zach and Andy’s driven attitude. Andy shares some of his experience that lead to him being hospitalized, as well as the recovery after. It’s nothing short of miraculous. We’re so happy Andy is alive and well. Still playing music with good friends like Zach and kicking life’s ass with love and positivity. It’s wonderful to see and hear.
Kim reports on OffBeat, Nick reports on days 1&2 of Marianarchy. Great folks. Great talk. Come see Mr. Johnson at Marianarchy this Friday 10/14 6:30 at the Elbow Room. Life is short and fragile. We really do love you all.
Thanks for listening.
Todd Ballowe – Eagle in the Henhouse
Welcome back, O Constant Listener! Its always a good time with Todd Ballowe in the studio and we hope you enjoy this episode. We didn’t realize just how ling it has been since he’s been on the show, so there was a lot of catching up to do, on and off mic.
Aside from being a little isolated like everyone else since 2020, Todd has been through some legit travails, battling it all with a smile. Fires, ailments, and being old dads; the show gets a little “old man shouts at cloud” heavy, but bear with us – we are only in the early stages of senility. Todd has also been busy opening Yonder Aerials and Dance in the North Valleys with his lovely partner, Jole .
We also devote a good chunk of the show to talking about Marianarchy XVIII: A Benefit for Andy Hernandez. The event will be over two weekends, Oct 7-8 and 14-15, at Alturas and Elbow Room, respectively. Two weekends featuring 40+ of your favorite local acts, to benefit Andy Hernandez, noted Reno bassist with Los Pistoleros who was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident in the Spring of 2022. Andy has since recovered and regained the ability to walk and obviously is saddled with enormous medical bills. Come on out to one of the shows and throw some support. There will be some form of raffle as well.
We are adding a new element to Marianarchy – a Memorial where we can remember the names and faces of those we have lost over the course of the past few years and the past two decades, such as Tom Plunkett and Kahele Dunn, who were not only dear friends to many of us at WLP and also Marianarchy beneficiaries, but also ardent supporters of Marianarchy every year they were able. We invite you to participate in this memorial with us, and add a photo, a name or a memento. It is planned to be a permanent fixture at Marianarchy, going forward, a living testament to our community and those we’ve been lucky enough to spend time with.
Hope to see you at the show – Todd goes up early on Day two at Alturas.
Thanks for Listening.
