Jen Scaffidi and Carson Cessna – Don’t Call It a Comeback – S12 E20
It’s always awesome to welcome old friends back in the hallowed halls of the Dogwater Studios, especially these two: Jen Scaffidi and Carson Cessna. Jen and Carson are 2/3 of the perennial Carson rockers Blunderbusst and all of the noise sorcerers known as Wizard Colors. True to form, Jen brings a whole slate of new new songs for us to listen to this week.
Per usual, while on hiatus, they have still been hard at work crafting songs about life and self. They are set to head into the studio to create yet another full-length and are approaching it in a novel way for them. lovely and talented Carolyn Gates is on hiatus and could not make it out, but we love her, wish her will hand hope to see her again soon.
Hope you’re having a holiday. Thanks for listening.
Jen Scaffidi – Fresh Hugs and Otter Pop Memories – S11 E21
What can I say about Jen Scaffidi that hasn’t already been said in hushed tones whenever she’s not around? I could say that she is an accomplished singer/songwriter, as a solo act or in one of many bands. I could say she is as comfortable playing indie/pop as she is generating noise-core. And I could also say she is truly one of the most supportive people I’ve ever known in my life. But that would be a bit much and sound like ass-kissing, so I won’t say any of those things.
It really was a lit of chaotic fun to have Jen in the studio with us again. SHE was particularly excited to know that we were breaking in our newest intern on this episode. That’s right – RaggMopp is out of school and able to stay out late enough to get to be our slave work for a great education in podcast production. (For free.) She doesn’t get to say much – but know that she is there getting us pens and coffee at a moment’s notice.
Scaffidi will be making some noise up at Canvas Cafe, with a solo set at 1pm on Friday 06/25. Check out the Worst Little Grid below or on Instagram (or even on Twitter) for more shows in the coming week. Don’t see your show? Let us know on any social media or send the info to at our Grid email!
Thanks for Listening

Brand new year! Same old dick jokes!

Starting the year of with some magical musical machinations is Wizard Colors, a Carson City NV noise band, featuring Jen Scaffidi and Carson Cessna, noted Sierra Nevada musical outlaws. “Noise band” might throw you off, sounding like some frenetic Phillip Glass/Mike Patton fantasy band, which is not unheard of, but Wizard Colors is something else. Randomly ambient audio-structure creation, might be a better way of looking at it. Yeah, I know it’s weird, but listen anyway, because it’s good for you!
Wizard Colors has been a regular participant at MEAT – Reno Noise Night, a monthly gathering of noise aficionados, as have Cessna and Scaffidi individually. This weekend, they will be performing with Will Hendricks and N8ive, at RNN’s new home at the Holland Project. You can hear a little more about these performers in the episode. Reno Noise Night’s monthly events are at the beginning of their fourth year and are definitely unique events. Literally, not one is the same as the next, even were they to have the same performers, which doesn’t always happen.
Also on the show, we have the treat of one Quentin Ramirez, heir to Nick Ramirez III, Reverend Rory’s left-hand man. Quentin couldn’t make it in for the Christmas show, but he made it for the new year! It’s good to see him again, now that he’s old enough to be on the show. Though scoring high marks in the nerd and video game department, he had a rough time with the quiz – but not as rough as Nick did listening to his answers!
So to sum up, if you like close listening to improvisational music in the dark, or are intrigued by what you here on the episode, go check out Wizard Colors at Holland Project, Friday Jan. 9 at 8pm. Quentin was rad. Oh, and yeah – we talk about what we remember and don’t remember about Nick’s bachelor party. SUPER NFSW. Might want to pot the volume down on that segment.
