S8 E25

Hey gang! Long time no hear! It’s been a crazy month with cancellations and surgeries and travelling and a whole bunch of other unexpected things, but we are finally back! Most of us anyway.

Nick, Rick and Kim welcome the Infecto Skeletons back to the studio. Mike and Andrew stop in to talk about stuff. Now, this is Rory doing the post and guess what – I haven’t listened to the episode yet (shocker, I know), but I do know one thing that they are talking about on the show: the new album. That’s right! The long awaited second release from Reno’s favorite scuzz-punks will hit the internet this weekend, and for a limited time, you’ll be able to download “Get Your Shit Together”, absolutely free!

After this though, it might be a while before you can catch them: in September, they are headed out for the Lost Skeletons Tour – a wild West Coast tour with Lost Idea, so grab the album while you can, learn all the words and wait patiently to forget them all while you puke on Justin’s feet in front of the stage at their next show in Reno.

S8 E24

Welcome to the Sausage Party!!! We’re happy to have Wolfman, Lucas and Hurricane from Grimedog in the studio today. These three Reno punks croon their way into your ears with a blend of 50’s rock, modern punk and effed up stories. And then, there’s the music. All kidding aside, we never stop kidding on this show. We should have been recording 20 min before the start of the episode because of all the funny shit we were saying. Unfortunately, you just got what was leftover.

Wolfman Grimedog, playing guitar and singing

Wolfman Grimedog

Wolfman, Lucas and Hurricane are Grimedog and a family – Father, Son and Brother/Uncle…. in the normal way, like respectively, not anything weird…(god, you guys are gross). Their familiality and familiarity has not bred contempt, (at least not currently), but a tight trio of Reno garage punk. Musically and conversationally, they work together as a cohesive unit, covering and picking up for one another as needed. For all the bands who played on this show, they seemed least perturbed by not being able to see the drummer. Anyway… they are a lot of fun to riff with and have some great songs. They’re working on a full length at Dogwater, so look for it later this year. You can catch them next at Boshee Bash out at Pyramid next weekend.

This weekend, the big deal is Northern Nevada Pride 2018! Break out your rainbow formal clothes and glitter cause it’s time to be fabulous! Or not! #dependingonhoweveryouselfidentifyandexpressyourself !!!!! Reno Pride is something that has become very important to our communities; it wasn’t always here and this town has not always been as tolerant and accepting as it is… ironic as that might seem to some of us. It is awesome that it has survived and grown and become a linchpin of the local civic calendar and highlight of many people’s year. Please go out and support the festival on Saturday as well as the associated events all weekend long at all of your favorite LGBTQ venues and establishments, new and old.

PhÆDRx – Solo Machinations – S7 E17

Greetings, weary travellers!

The Worst Little Podcast in the World – S7 E16 – Download Link

This week we’re introducing you to a Reno musician who is off the beaten path. PhÆDRx is the project, Dennis is his name. Combining strong songwriting skills and musical styles from many eras and influences, PhÆDRx is a musical exploration of metaphysical themes. Dennis composes and writes all of these original works; what’s even more impressive is that he also plays all the parts himself, from strings to drums to synth and the ol’ mouth harp. Many of the songs you will hear on the show are acoustic versions of fully produced songs that are available on the website.

maxin’ and chillaxin’

Though soft-spoken, Dennis has an alluring voice and strong storytelling skills. Classic bait-and-switch. Enjoy the tunes and check out the sites. We hope to see PhÆDRx playing out at Reno venues soon this summer. Keep an eye out for his album “Always Look Up”, releasing later this summer.

Hope to see you all out at the shows this weekend! On the Theater Front, we have STUPID FUCKING BIRD closing it’s run at Bruka, Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind at RLT and The Comedy of Errors at the Lear. On the music side, Sonic Mass at 40 Mile on Friday and the boys in One Ton Dually will be opening up for Three Rounds on Saturday.

hot or not?

Two hunnert and fitty! Thank you. Not just for listening. Not just for being with us. Not just for supporting us. But for supporting the Reno music scene that we are so luckily able to be peripherally (and directly at times) a part of . It has been our pleasure and privilege to have brought you over 200 recordings of Reno-oriented bands and musicians. We have become a living history of our city’s music culture (with inappropriate and irrelevant commentary). We would have no reason to do it without the encouragement and support of all of the listeners. We would have quit years ago because no one cares, like Phil Ochs, but we can see you listening, like the NSA. Thank you, (beautiful little pawns) our loyal audience.

Ian smiling broadly with a beer behind his drumset.

For Episode 250, we are happy and pleased to bring you the basement punk rock stylings of Reno’s own Flood Fire Death Drought. I’d call them all young dudes, but they’re regular adults with jobs and wives and shit and that would just belie my own advancing years. So – these Reno kids, you see (cause we’re all kids in Reno) play some pretty spiffy music. If you’ve ever passed out at an all-ages house party in Reno in the last 25 years, you might recognize some of what they are doing. Not that you necessarily have seen them , but they are “Reno as fuck”.

Kris Kelly - smiling broadly in a black shirt - do you really know what a black shirt looks like? Is this joke insensitive? Who really talks to you in the Alt Text field? I do. Cause I love you

Kris Kelly

Flood Fire Death Drought is Kris Kelly (Guitar, Vocals), Kyle Azzam (Bass, Back-up Vocals), Ian Callahan (Drums, Back-up Vocals). We really had a great time with them, both as personalities and as musicians. I think we all, to a man, really dug the tunes they were throwing down. They were also perverted heathens, but respectful gents at the same time. Thoroughly delightful, as people and as a band,

Kyle pretending to pee in a toilet with his back turned to you, but looking over his shoulder.

Man the Tanks – Breathing New Life – S6 E31

Did’ja get yer turkey stuffed?

Worst Little Podcast S6 E31 – Download Link

Saving us from ourselves and a tide of grey nostril hairs, Man the Tanks storms Dogwater Studios with the new-fangled noises they call music! Cayden Linares, Jimi Bolan and Mike Messerli  form up this hit squad of tight and fast musical aggression. Man the Tanks are a homegrown post-punk/hardcore band from here in Reno. I want to call them great new music, but it’s not true. They’ve been around for over a year. They’ve just not played in seedy dive bars venues I’ve frequented.

..’sup, nerds…

Cayden Linares of Man the Tanks speaking into a mic

…so dreamy…

Mike Messerli of Man the Tanks wearing a The Joker t-shirt and giving 2 thumbs up whilst smiling broadly

…gingers…

You can catch Man the Tanks soon though! On Thursday 12/7, they’ll be playing with Tounge’s Tide and Alec Moore at Rockbar. These guys are legit and it’ll be a great way to start off Marianarchy Weekend, which is going down at Jub Jubs on Dec 9-10, a Benefit for “Greatful Ted Zepplin”. It’s a great weekend for helping, because on 12/10, the new (and last) Sil Shoda CD/DVD release is a benefit for the MS Society too! It’s a big damned weekend! More about that next week.

Hey kids!

Worst Little Podcast – S6 E18

Todd Ballowe, noted Reno musician, performer and bon vivant, comes by the studios this week, bringing the ever lovely Jole Rector along as well. I’m sure it was swell, but Reverend Rory was not in attendance. Intern X only took two pictures – FAIL!. Nick is playing at Pignic tonight, Thursday 8/4/16 with Loud as Folk. Reverend Rory has Foxy First Friday with Delani White. Go see some stuff.

Roxxy Collie joins us this week on the show. A new Reno rock band, Roxy Collie is a conglomeration of other Reno bands and bring some serious talent to bear. Of course, Mr. “I’m in 8000 Bands” Nick Ramirez is in this latest project on drums. He backs up Steve Barron, Jon Cornell, Pat Rhea and the vocal stylings of the always impressive, Margy Ford.

We drink. We laugh. We tell an awful lot of dick jokes. Actually, no. Well, yes, there are dick jokes, but we didn’t have much time for talk, since the band had to kick our ears’ asses with awesome music. Coincidentally, the band is named after American Orinthologist Roxie Collie Laybourne. Since Nick was in the band, he couldn’t host, so the WLP Webmaster, Lord Stryse stops in to take the third chair. It’s always good to have him here with us in the studio!

Silly Pagans and blood sausage.

The Worst Little Podcast – S6 E4 – Download Link

This week we have Blacklisted which consists of Freddy and Derek.  You may know them from Corner/Store – formerly The Tides.  They are currently an instrumental band.  However, they are looking for a singer.  Bassist could be necessary as well.  Inquire within.

Derek Todd, sticks high

Typically this is when we would tell you where to see them live next.  Not the case this time.  They are still working on their thing.  Keep an eye on the Blacklisted Facebook page for updates.  This weekend at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor will be Skate Jam 2016 though.  Plenty of great bands playing that event.

Freddy Daisuke, pondering the meaning of nothing

Everyone send Rick a little love.  Think about him, hug him when you see him next, send him an “I’m thinking about you” text, or hug someone you love right now because life is short, and we all love you.

Here is a picture of Nick that is full of more cool than you can shake a stick at:

Valentine’s Day draws near, Reverend Rory is out of the country, and we get that loving feeling with the lads of CRUSH. Aaron, Daniel, and Jimmy talk about getting the band back together, their newer direction, and how Pharrell killed their “Happy.” Check out how they define fuzz rock with their new tunes.

Aaron Sion, deep thoughts

At Jub Jub’s this Friday you can rock out at Bands for Bernie. The Atomiks, Roxxy Collie, Wheatstone Bridge, Mikie Shame & Nick Ramirez will all be playing. On Saturday Spectre Records will be celebrating their one year anniversary with a concert in their store. Alphabet Cult, People With Bodies, and Flores will be playing. Based on what Dogwater Dick had to say, you should be keeping an ear out for some new Murderock soon.

Daniel Sion, melting hearts with a shy smile

Catch CRUSH this Friday, February 12, at MidTown Wine Bar. Fun starts at 8 P.M., goes until 11 P.M., it is 21+, and there is no cover. That means FREE! Grab your date and get your V.D. started early.

Jimmy Dunn, coffee toasting to good times

Go hug someone, tell them they are beautiful, and let them know they are loved! Then go catch a show.

…and it happened with a BANG!

Worst Little Podcast – S6 E1 – Download Link

Good morrow, good friends! It’s a fine fine start to Season 6 we have here, with some upstarts in the Reno music scene, Lil Mijhos! Reice Guerrero and Tyler Charles roll up on Dogwater and pump out some kick ass tunes. They’ve got an alt/punk thing going on with a lot of energy and groove to it. I highly recommend checking them out at your next opportunity.

We also take a phone call from friend of the show, Kye Alfred Hillig. Kye came through town a couple years ago and has kept in touch during his travels! This week he’s promoting his new album, Great Falls Memorial Interchange. It’s not out yet, but you can listen to the track mentioned in the show by clicking on this link: Yes Grinning Face of Death

Good stuff. Get your listen on.

We would also be remiss if we did not also throw out a big congratulations to the happy couple, Nick Ramirez and Mikie Haley! They tied the know! It’s official! It was awesome! More later when Nick’s back in the saddle.

Thanks for Listening!
