Douglas Sandall and Diana Ekins – S11 E25 – Music, the Law, and You Make the World Better
Should I even bother complaining about the heat and smoke in this blog post? Other than marking a contextual moment in history on our erstwhile blog post… probably not. We’ve all heard it; thoughts and prayers, everyone. (Especially for The Rev and Raggmopp, who live with a VERY pregnant lady this summer.) Anyway: Onto the show summary!
Our musical guest this week, bluesman and folk…smith Douglas Sandall, makes his debut appearance on the podcast. A veteran of the Reno music underbelly (and Reno in general), Douglas has still, seemingly not lost his hope for peace in the world and belief in other humans, if you can believe that. In addition to his own songwriting skillz and talents, Douglas is also the bassist for Jake Amor and the Hot Dogs!
Returning to the fold is good friend, Diana Ekins! You may remember her from the premier Reno acapella act, Hella Acapella. Today though, she joins us as a professional – a local attorney, specializing in intellectual property rights over at Going Live Legal, PLLC. We catch up with Diana and learn about her journey into lawyering and working with performing artists on a while new level.
As always, please check out the Patreon to get bonus content (minus the Rory) and the Worst Little Grid to find out what’s happening around town this week!

The Wabuska Yachting Club and Other Tales of “High” Desert Piracy – S11 E23
Summertime is a good time for some music making and hip shaking. Unfortunately, we have Wabuska Yachting Club on with us instead. All kidding aside, it was a true pleasure to get to finally invite them in for a live show – Steve and Cassie Funk, Doyle Wayne Stewart, Nick McCabe and Dave Cherry set the podcast on its ear with their stories, songs and story-songs.
The WYC is a groovy folk funk band with a fluid membership. They joined us for one of last year’s virtual Marianachies with a great video that we talk about on the show. Who likes peppy songs about dark things? It seemed to be a theme on our show, but what can you expect form a crew of rock and roll revenants? You can also expect tales of the old, wild side of Washoe County, Reno and Nevada. Peeling back the curtain, we also get to hear the tale of how the Yachting Club was formed in the fine coastal town of Wabuska, NV.
Well folks, it’s time to hit the road – hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed making it. The WBC are fine, fine humans, musicians and friends – of each other and the show – and their joy is infectious. Live music is so great!

Low La La – Let’s Really Focus on the Band – S6 E17

Happy ‘Merica Time!
The Worst Little Podcast – S6 E16
WARNING: Do not operate heavy machinery or operate a motor vehicle whilst listening to the songs on this podcast.
We are pleased to welcome Hannah Etchison and Cody Thomas of Low La La back onto the podcast this week. Our favorite sweet sweet songbirds came back on right before the last tour of their single lives! You can catch their mini-tour kickoff show up in Virginia City this Saturday at The Canvas Cafe. They are just going out for a bit for the summer before coming back home to focus on more domestic things.
If you haven’t caught them before, Low La La is a singer-songwriter duo from Reno NV specializing in original tunes for the stringed instruments and simple percussion. Also whistling even. They write some terribly beautiful music together with thoughtful, often personal, lyrics. The two of them, Hannah and Cody, are also a blast personally and especially indulgent of their friends, as you will hear on the show.
Go see their show. Cody is a potter and will have many of his wares for sale at the event. Go like them on Facebook. These two are a great local talent. Support that shit.

Wheatstone Bridge – The Future is NOW! – S5 E23

Bubble Bubble, toil and trouble!
The Worst Little Podcast – S 5 E23 – Download Link
What a show we have for you! It’s chaotic, incoherent at times and was a real blast to record. Hope you can keep up! In the studio we have Jill Marlene, Doyle Wayne Stewart, Margy Ford and Stephen Barron from Wheatstone Bridge, a Reno NV Americana/folk band. No drums, no bass, just a couple of guitars and some singing. Radical concept in these days.
Wheatstone Bridge has been around for a couple years now, and the seasoning has paid off. These four strong talents blend seamlessly, playing new originals and old favorites for us on the show this week. Ford and Marlene are excellent co-singers on all the songs, mirroring and harmonizing with each other with casual grace, while Stewart and Barron do something similar on their guitars.
There’s a lot of chaos in this show but a lot of fun – one of my favorite Quizzes ever is buried in there. We can’t stay on topic for more than a moment and people are stepping all over one another, but that’s what it’s like hanging out with Wheatstone Bridge – a big laughing, feel-y ball of awesome, peppered with music.
It’s the busy season in Reno right now, with all the big end-of-summer festivals, but whether you’re heading out to Sparks for the cook-off, or the Playa for Burning Man, don’t be stupid. Be safe, don’t get caught and have all the fun.
Thanks for Listening!.
Whitebulbs – Folking Punks – S4 E14

“I think it’s time to climax.”
The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E14 – Download Link
Constant Companion, Nick Ramirez, hops in the driver’s seat this week while Dogwater Studios plays host to Whitebulbs an Americana/folk/punk band from Reno NV. Aaron Foelsch, Kyle Dazey, Zach Compton, Ken Shepherd and Andy Pavlu crash the studio with their high-energy music. Rev. Rory was out with a case of being a parent, so I don’t have a whole lot to say about the show. It’s weird to listen, but Nick did a good job in my stead.
These guys start us with a barbershop lullaby, but shortly thereafter kick things into high gear. I for one can’t wait to see Whitebulbs live and in action some night soon. They are an active band with facebook and reverbnation pages as well as their own website. They’ve been playing out a lot with some great bands and have a bunch of other shows lined up in the near future. Check them out!
Well, it’s a fun episode – listen already!
And thanks for listening!
PS Nate the intern. don’t think I’m not paying attention to where your balls have been. Retribution will be had when you least expect it.
