Hola, mis amigos! First of alll, thank you to everyone that came out and supported Marianarchy this weekend. Despite the snowstorm, we had a fantastic time as usual! All the acts, Friday and Saturday were just great. There are too many people to thank for their support, including Jub Jub’s. We love you. So does Maryanne.
This week we have the Return of Larry! Lawrence Coleman III shows up with Jacey Goldfinger and Marcelo Nobrega, the other members of his project, LC3 and Dope Called Glory. Unfortunately, this is not only their first performance, but it is also their last! Larry, you see, is going to the English countryside for a year, to search his soul, make dandelion crowns and wistfully look out over lakes and moors. Jacey and Marcelo will remain behind in Reno, keepin’ it real and making music.
I don’t know if we fully explained it on the show, but when larry first moved to Reno, he was in a band called Greyscale. They were a bunch of young twerps and punks playing some hardcore metal – nice guys, but just using Reno as a stepping stone. Reverend Rory interviewed them back in tha’ day for the Reno News and Review. Then, a bunch of drinking and rock shows happened. Larry ended up staying and becoming a mainstay and vital part of the Reno music scene for the better part of a decade. It seemed only fitting that he go out with another session with The good Reverend. Literally, he got on a plane and left town the morning after this was recorded.
Ashley Marie, noted Reno actor and director, also stopped by to promote the new season of Good Luck MacBeth and assuring us that it won’t be too long before she returns to the Bruka stage. Ashley was happy (read: SQUEEEEing like a schoolgirl) to recently announce that she will be directing Evil Dead: The Musical in the upcoming GLM season. It’s been a while since Ashley has been on the show and it was nice to have her back. Maybe next time she won’t lose her voice and be able to be on the show.

Hello, friends! I hope you had a great holiday weekend and stuffed yourselves. Rev. Rory was in a food coma all weekend, which is why the podcast is late. Again.
This episode features the rockin’ goodness of Reno alt-country troubadours, The Refiners! These gents came in and kicked down the doors of Dogwater Studios. Calling themselves “Waylan through a modern lens”; Bill, Ned and Doug are the real deal. They curse. They drink. They play some damn fine music. We got to hear some country covers and some Refiner originals and it was damn fine.
I’m going to take this time to interrupt the blog post to remind you about the upcoming festivities this weekend at the Marianarchy Winter Formal! With over 40 bands in 2 days, this is easily our biggest Marianarchy yet! A benefit for Nico Theologitis of Nico’s Greek Deli, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, this Marianarchy Winter Formal is a special one. It is also the first Marianarchy on two stages and a prelude to Marianarchy X, comping this May. (Aaaaannnnnd….. it just happens to be Rev. Rory and Nick Ramirez’s birthday party)

We’re getting caught up here. This should be the last late episode for a while (BOY, an intern sure would be nice, if you know anyone who wants to learn about the exciting world of podcast production!). However, this week, the wait is definitely worth it (again).
Continuing the current trend of rock and roll duos, Small Drawings is up in here this week. Like the jerks in jeans and t-shirts that they are, Small Drawings puts out a big indie garage sound and screams the night away. Drew on the guitar and Mike on the drums have a great set of original songs that will kick your amps up to 11.
On the show this week we also re-iterate the announcement of the Good Luck MacBeth 2014 season, including Evil Dead: The Musical which will be directed by Ashley Marie in October of 2014. This is a special announcement, since Reverend Rory FINALLY gets to talk about his role in the production as stage manager. We’re all super excited for this. And Finally, we take the time to introduce our newest WLP Intern, Nate. Not much to say about him yet. But don’t worry; I have complete confidence that he’ll fuck up soon. Late post this week. GIANT tech switchover at the Dogwater Studios (Rick bought a new computer and is still working out the bugs) but we persevered! AND WERE TRIUPMHANT in the end. (Rick’s always triumphant in the end) We got Actors Killed Lincoln on the show this week. Well, most of em anyway… the REAL musicians of the band, Kent Irwin, Matt Kaminsky, Dan Lyons, Jenkins and Alan Kaminsky all showed up. Zach Reese, however had more IMORTANT things to do (like a competitive grad school program or gay sex). But they also persevered and were triumphant!!!

He brings with him, the always amazing Clint Philbin once more. In the fallout of The Big Bad, the two of them have teamed up to form the rocktastic and groove-makin’, Failure Machine. Two-man, distorted Motown covers and originals, they don’t need no stinkin’ band. We also get down, if you will, with Murdoc Brickel. Murdoc comes to us from The Night Of Fetish and Fantasy(NOFF) 2013. Put on by the National Leather Association of Northern Nevada, this annual event is for fetishists, kinksters and sexy people of all levels and persuasions. Murdoc himself is a total freak and pervert. He kinda made the guys uncomfortable by being even MORE naked than Rev. Rory (who always wears nothing but a bow tie and a smile). But we had a lot of fun talking about the event that is THIS WEEKEND at Candela’s Nightclub.

She and her ukulele filled the rooms of Dogwater Studios with some pretty music for a change. Only playing the uke for the last 10 months or so, Britt is a pretty accomplished songwriter with no need for covers – but she’s got some fun arrangements of those too! Dan’s act is going to go up shortly after his good friend and funnyman Sean Peabody rocks the stage, makin’ you laugh yo asses off. Their show, brought to you by the Reno Tahoe Comedy Club is at the Pioneer Underground this Friday night. Doors at 7.
