Hello, loyal listeners! Rev. Rory here and it’s good to be back from my sojourn deep into the land of Navel Contemplation. As usual, a lot on tonight’s show was completely unexpected – including my appearance on the Patreon portion of the show (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, follow the link and subscribe). It really is great to be back on the bus with my podcast cohorts and friends.

Sprocket

First up, we take some time to talk with Jessi ‘Sprocket’ Janusee, Communications Director at The Generator and Founder of the Reno Punk Rock Flea Market, a dynamic makerspace extravaganza, now celebrating it’s 5th year! The Generator has just opened at it’s new location this year – a warehouse space almost twice the size of the last, leading to more opportunity for controlled chaos and fun. The event is going to be pretty insane, with everything from local art vendors to a regional punk rock band lineup with over 25 acts to Drag Queen Story Time for the kiddos to a pugil stick gladiator ring and much much more. It’s really one of the best local events around – and you can’t beat the price $5 per day or $8 for both days, leeaving you that much more money to buy local art! And if you’re interested, you can inquire about becoming a member of The Generator and taking advantage of all their makerspace and educaiton al opportunities throughout the whole year!

We also welcome back to the show our good friend, Eric Marks. Eric is the bassist for Enslave the Creation, a local technical metal band, and that’s how you met him before. But! There is so much more to this restless creative. In addition to bassing, Eric is also a well known photojournalist whose images have appeared in many local magazines and journals (Reno News and Review, This Is Reno, Reno Tahoe Tonight). He is also the lens behind the images of Reno Street Photography, a more artistic and ground-level view of some of the corners of our fair city. We talk a lot about his work over the years.

If you’re keeping your ear to the ground, you probably already know this, but in case you don’t: Psychedelic Jazz Rock Group, Apollo Suns, from Winnipeg MB Canada, is rolling through Reno on April 14th for their “Relationships of Force Tour”. The group is absolutely going to blow your mind and the doors off at The Elbow Room in Sparks. Starting at 8:30, local Nuclear Funk group (and upcoming podcast guests), Phat Mark, will open up the night and get you feeling right! Follow this link for details!

That’s all I know, folks. SO, as usual: Thanks for Listening

Oh hi, I didn’t see you there! Welcome to the Worst Little Podcast. Your hosts Nick, Kadillac Kim, and Dogwater Dick are here with some fresh faces to the Reno music scene, 33 Black. This week’s podcast has gone country! Yeehaw! Listen up for some new music from these up-and-comers, along with a heavy dose of inappropriate banter. Like we do.

33 Black an alt country band from Reno Nevada doing silly poses for the camera at Dogwater Studios.

33 Black is a very serious band and is made up of Travis and Jeb on vocals and guitar, and Spencer on drums

33 Black was formed back in the day (they never got around to telling us which day exactly) when Jeb and Travis, who were high school sweethearts friends, met Spencer on the internet. But unlike most Craigslist hookups, this one lasted.

Thank’s to 33 Black for being Kim’s reason to get drunk this week! Their next show is in Chico on June 14th but look for local shows soon. As always, stay tuned to the Worst Little Podcast for news about the band, and check them out on iTunes to listen to their two EPs that are out now. We will be following 33 Black with interest and we can’t wait to see where these guys go!

Thanks so much for listening. We’re really glad you’re here. This week Kim has some pretty crazy picks for you. Don’t miss the following:

Thursday – LAF: Wolf Creek Boys/Mason Frey/Delani White/Aaron Acquafondata Loud As Folk is back this week at Pignic! 21+ 8PM No Cover

Friday – 24HR MakeAThon – Don’t miss this Generator membership drive and fundraiser. 30+ workshops, 20+ performances, movies, beer, burlesque, and drag bingo! Click the link for info and tickets and if you’d like to volunteer for a free ticket, hit us up ASAP! 24 straight hours starting at 6PM. All ages.

Loud As Folk Family Jam at the Generator 9PM to 2AM. All ages.

Saturday – DRAG BINGO at the Generator at 2PM. All ages. Win great prizes!

Sunday – Coastlands/Kanawha/Blacklisted check out two former podcast bands, Kanawha and Blacklisted at the Saint. 21+ 8PM No Cover

If you’re a fan of the show please consider donating to our Patreon so we can reimburse Rick for all he does for Reno music. He’s doing the lords work recording and archiving all this local music for y’all for free, so throw a little money his way. Rick and Jesus are homies so if you help Rick he’ll put a good word in for you. Hell knows we could all use all the help we can get in that area… It has been an absolute pleasure, as always, Reno. Tune in next week for local singer-songwriter Joni Blinman. Remember, life is short and we love you.

Hello and welcome to the Worst Little Podcast!

The-Worst-Little-Podcast-2017-06-26– S7 E20

This week’s podcast welcomes Reno singer-songwriter and ukulele superstar Britt Straw, and local comedian Steve Van Pelt. We’ll get to Steve in a minute but first, let’s introduce you to Worst Little Podcast veteran Britt Straw! Britt was recently on the podcast with her band Seedless 10DenC and she’s here today solo to play us some original music and to talk to us about her important work with the U.S. Wolf Refuge. Britt has been an advocate and activist for Wolves for many years. She talked to us Monday about her passion for helping these powerful creatures and shed light on the problem of irresponsible wolf breeding and domestication.

Also on the show, we have Steve Van Pelt who hosts comedy open mic at Jimmy B’s Bar and Grill every Monday night! He’s here to talk to us about the many stand-up open night mics in Reno. There’s one almost every day of the week!

Britt Straw Reno singer-songwriter

Britt Straw – Wolf fan and Uke player. Britt’s last appearance was at the Lavender and Honey Festival. Click through to her Facebook to keep an eye on her upcoming show dates.

The Wolf Refuge in Reno has more than 100 acres of space to house wolves that are too wild to live in a home yet too domestic to live in the wild. A fundraiser for the U. S. Wolf Refuge is being held at The Potentialist Workshop July 29th. Details can be found here. Fun for the whole family!

Steve Van Pelt Reno Nevada comedian and open mic comedy host.

Steve Van Pelt – local comedian. Steve is working hard to help our comedy scene thrive. Go say hi to him on Monday nights!

Steve began his comedy career in Good Luck Macbeth’s production, Clown Bar. He was bitten by the performance bug and has been doing standup ever since.  Your local comedy open mic nights are Sunday at Waterfall; Monday at Jimmy B’s; Tuesday at The Jungle (Shout out to Steve Elegant!); Wednesday at 3rd St Bar; Thursday at Beck’s Brewhouse.

In case you missed it this week our host Nick Ramirez opened for punk legend Zander Schloss of the Circle Jerks at Shea’s with podcast and Reno favorite Johnny Harpo. Nick did one hell of an entertaining cover of MIA’s Paper Planes (there’s video!) and Johnny played a little of this and a little of that from his band Rigorous Proof, as well as his solo stuff.

In other Reno scene news, Pinball is having a moment. There are tournaments a couple of times a month at Jub Jub’s and at the Hideout Lounge. Need a new hobby? Pinball.

For all of you sane people who aren’t going to the Black Rock for Juplaya, Reno has some cool stuff to occupy your 4th of July weekend. Your friend Kadillac Kim will be at Murder By Death with Tiger Army in Sacramento on Friday, but if I *were* in Reno Friday night one of my best bets would be artist Jounda Strong’s art exhibit Patterns of Love at The Generator, Inc. Also that night, Bohemian Burlesque has a very special showcase at 3rd St. Bar. See the gang give you a sneak peek at their unique performance style, gorgeous costumes, and comedic intrigue. Only $5 at the door. Details here! Saturday at 10 a.m. check out the Downtown Mural and Public Art Tour hosted by Art Spot Reno. While you’re downtown, go to the Biggest Little City Wingfest! Wings are my second favorite thing so I will see you there Saturday, Reno. Find me. Say Hi.

Worst Little Podcast PSA: it’s hot out. Stay hydrated. Piss clear. Beer only sort of counts as hydration and only if it’s like Coors or something. And for the love of God, please don’t drink Coors.

Thanks for listening. Stay safe this weekend.

Following the inspiration of Assistant Directors Gabe Hilton and Kaitlin Oki, they recreate and stage the narrative told in The Decemberists’ album “The Hazards of Love”. This show was very well received when we first performed it in the Fall of 2010 and we are putting it on again at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor in just a few weeks.

Chris Nelson from the Hazards of Love Tribute

We? Oh, did I forget to mention that Reverend Rory is in this production? Well he is. An original cast member, along with vocalists Marlene and Music Director Chris Nelson, they are joined by many new talents including vocalist Margy Ford. Jon Cornell steps up and accompanies them although he is not in the production this time around.

Margy Ford from The Hazards of Love Tribute Show

Finally a shout out to the fine folks at The Generator! They put on a fine pot luck meal for artists and patrons and friends every Wednesday at their facility and are always looking for anyone interested in getting involved. THey are having a bg fundraiser on Saturday 2/15 – Buy It or Burn It! All the pieces up for auction will be voted on to be displayed with pride at the Generator or immolated with delight at the Generator.

Back on Track for the new season next week!

Thanks for listening.
