…and we are BACK!

Like many of you, we were a little unprepared last week and made an 11th hour decision not to record the show. We do apologize to our scheduled guest, Andii Rose, for the late notice and hope to get her rescheduled later this summer. So in the meantime, do us a favor and check out the link to her FB and music.

This week we were able to utilize the technology of the FUTURE (now)!!!! A big thanks to Zoom Cloud Meeting Pro for being available to help us make this show happen even during a global health crisis. We have recorded a show in disparate locations and STILL had a great time.

Continuing with Week 3 of Women’s March, in a Worst Little Podcast first, we bring you The Grimtones in a live, teleconferenced episode of the show. If you know the show, you know Michelle Belle and Carter Stellon are longtime friends of WLP and co-conspirators with Dogwater Studios.

Originally, they were supposed to come on to promote and upcoming show (with Sit Kitty Sit… who showed us the Zoom app so we can do their podcast in a couple weeks), shich has since been cancelled …. (but according to sources, MAY still happen over the interwebz, so stay tuned). So, we hung out and talked about their release from last December, the plague COVID-19 health crisis, and how we’ve all been faring in lockdown.

They also treat us to some actual live acoustic music! We get just a couple songs off the CD “Nine Lives” (which you can check out everywhere online), but mostly, we get whole new iterations, unique utterances, of some great Grimtones tunes.

(out now…obvs)

Live we say in the show, we hope everyone out there is staying safe and isn’t in dire need of anything. Most importantly, we do encourage everyone to wash their hands and stay home as much as possible – especially resident nurse, Kadillac Kim! If nothing happens, we did our jobs.

We also wanted to list some important information here too, regarding public assistance if you or anyone you know is facing financial jeopardy during this time. Please avail yourself of these resources:

If you need to apply for Unemployment Insurance, or want to simply find out if you are eligible, officials suggest applying right away and thank you for your patience in this time of need and uncertainty. You can apply at http://detr.nv.gov

If you need help resetting your UIB password or username, please visit http://gov.nv.gov/Forms/Unemployment/

If you want to apply for SNAP (food stamps) or Medical coverage, and the Governor encourages every Nevadan without insurance to apply (so no one is without adequate medical care at this time), please apply for your benefits at http://dwss.nv.gov

Washoe County School District and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada are continuing to serve pickup meals for all children 18 and under at area elementary schools and middle schools. Get more information at https://www.washoeschools.net/Page/14379

And we’re back. Our guests this week are the fine lads from the scattering: Jim, Jason, Rash and Brian! They are Reno’s hottest barbershop quartet, harmonizing and crooning their way into our hearts. Just kidding – the scattering is Reno hardcore metal, screaming and burrowing its way into your brains.

jason

Chewie is back in Reno and swaps in for Nick this week. It’s always good to have him in person as opposed to the Evil Chewie that lives in the soundboard.

In the five years since they were last on the show, there have been some changes, including the addition of Rash and a whole mess of new songs. We got to talk to the scattering about their upcoming album, sinking, later this year (Humaniterrorist) and the Great Vinyl Shortage of 2020. You can listen to earlier recordings on their bandcamp page and keep up with the timeline of the release.

We also talk with Jim about his youtube channel, Goatlord Hiking. He and Brian traipse around in the wilds, making mistakes, overcoming them and filming it all for later info and skill building. This is not day hiking – this is survival hiking, and sometimes, things can go really wrong.

As always, the end of the show is a recap of upcoming events you want to be on the lookout for. I can’t remember it all right now, so you’ll just have to listen for yourself.

Do ya like punk rock, kid? I can get you some punk rock right here.

Ummm Jr, Reno noise aficionados and scream mechanics, are the next victim to be drawn into the WLP lair. They stasrt out with a bang and just keep going. There are no slow songs, no chance to breath. Just crazy mad, crazy fast and crazy fun.

Ummm Jr is Taylor, Andrew, Derek and DAVID (yes, it is David. I listened to the show and checked). They have been quick to insinuate themselves as one of the bands you want to play with. The music, while loud, screamy and raw, is terribly dancy and rather catchy. It’s not hard to see why everyone wants them on their bill.

Derek

Lots of cool shows coming up – listen to the episode for details. Don’t forget to check out the Punk Rock Flea Market next week. Sign up tor our Patreon to get exclusive songs every week.

Greetings and salutations, loyal listeners! It’s been a month since we broke for Christmas, but we are excited to start the new season – Season 10!!!

This week we have some great guests, new and returning. First, our musical feature for the week is Teagan ‘TCP’ Powell. New to the Reno area, this kid is just getting started – a sound tech by trade and an aspiring emcee by night. He’s traveled around more than most, picked up a few stories and spits them back out after they circumnavigate the inside of his mind.

Also up to bat at the top of the year is Ken McKim. You may remember Ken from a few years ago when he came to talk about advocating for people with ‘unseen’ painful diseases like Crohn’s Disease and Colitis and the very real and unique problems they face. Now, Ken is still out there advocating for patients and their rights and needs. At Noble Patient Advocacy the focus is on patients needing another voice, someone to help them through the complicated trials of getting diagnoses and treatments, seeing doctors, deciphering the hieroglyphics of medical documentation and navigating the choppy waters of insurance coverage and medical practices. It’s truly a noble undertaking, servicing those lost in mazes of anxiety, illness and at the mercy of out healthcare landscape.

In local events, Kadillac Kim is excited to announce the return of the Reno Punk Rock Flea Market. Our friends at The Generator are back at it again, with two days of punk rock music, DIY crafts, underground literature, workshops, drag queen story time and the new and improved CAR SMASH PYRAMID!!! Follow the link for a lineup of bands and vendors. (And don’t forget the Afterparty!)

There’s a lot going on this weekend. Friday, Cell With Lincoln Skinz is going to be a fun show over at VSB; so is Jen Scaffidi (solo) with My Dallas Teens, Acid Reality Casualty Test at Jub Jubs. In the Art World, the Depot Gallery is hosting an Artist Reception for Nick Noyes on the same night. Saturday, Alturas is hosting their monthly dance night, Cellar Door, featuring darkwave, post-punk, industrial, got, coldwave, and experimental dance tunes curated by our favorite DJ / tattoo artist, John Potter. Holland Project will be calmly rocking the doors off with the Chad Flores Album Release Show, ft. Só Sol, and My Acoustic Heart. Good buddy Nick Eng will be over at the Fat Cat B&G that a night as well!

Get out and do stuff!

You’re a beautiful audience. We’re happy to have you along for the ride. If youre interexted in supporting the show or having your name mentioned on air, please visit our WLP Patreon page and see what fits!

Thanks for listening.
