Drummer and dad Clay, bassist and buddy, Miles and singer songwriter guitarist Anabelle, all packed up the van in Fallon and headed west to Reno and the Dogwater Studios for an another great WLP episode. This indie pop outfit was born out of Anabelle’s acoustic folk solo act that she started a mere four years ago at 12 years old.

Anabelle & the Desert Scrubs

This young lady has a beautiful voice, great tunes with both a seasoned presence and youthful exuberance. She’s driven. Her dad is her drummer, chaperone and driver. He’s super proud of his daughter and supports her dreams.

Anabelle

Anabelle’s homie Miles is new to the band and is still working out the kinks, but Clay assured him he is the man for the job.

High Desert Habit

We get some tracks from their upcoming album recorded at Tin Roof Recordings in Fallon.

Grief, love and loss are often themes, stories of real-life experiences. Eric says it’s how he releases his grief, through music, and hopes he can reach others who are dealing with it.  It’s very human and relatable. Pretty catchy too.

We had a cozy healing session with thee magic man himself Mr Larry Cooper.

Larry is a talented multi-instrumentalist whose musical hustles include being the bassist for artsy pop rockers Roxxy Collie and often sitting in with his homies in the Grimtones or maybe you’ve been blown away by his solo work. His debut solo album LARRY COOPER MUST DIE is out on all major platforms and vinyl records are on the way.

It’s a journey through recovery and Larry plays nearly every instrument on it. It is soulful, mixing styles and influences the whole way through, keeping the listener engaged. Sometimes the songs arrive from moments of clarity and immediate improvisation. Others are written meticulously. Must Die leaves quite the impression. It is a concept album and should be experienced as such. It reveals a real person and true artist.

Larry Cooper live in the Dogwater Studios

We shoot the shizzy on the two and a half years it took to get the album out and the reasons for its creation. Larry dives deep within himself revealing struggles, enlightenment and hope.

The conversation was heavy and funny with huge heart and sincerity .

We get a couple tracks from the record and a couple live in studio performances.

Larry is now a five timer on the show; therefore, we felt no need to quiz him again.

The Rev. says farewell but not goodbye, promising to return to hosting occasionally

Big daddy Rory says farewell for now, after hosting the last three episodes. We of WLP salute you Rev. See you next hall pass.

Thanks for a great episode, Larry. We love you. Thanks for listening folks, we love you too.

This week’s guests are industrial dark wave songsters Voidsinger. Casey Fritz and Rob Pelikan’s music is like Love and Rockets mixed with New Order and maybe a dash of Ministry’s With Sympathy. Incorporating hip hop and grunge and just about any genre they like. They have made ten albums in a year and a half. It’s freaking crazy. They chalk up their prolific output to chemistry.

Rob Pelikan and Casey Fritz

Rob brings the goth new wave vibe and Casey brings the grunge and punk vibes both sharing a rebellious outsider point of view. They’re also joined by Casey’s computer, leaving them to figure out how they’d do a live show but that is definitely on their to do list. We had a great time getting to know Voidsinger and hearing their eclectic tunes. You can find them on all the usual platforms.

The OG cast reunite

We play a fantastic round of the quiz and of course your upcoming hot shows.

It’s been great having our host with the most Reverend Rory back, in fact the whole original cast made it in this week. Always a treat.

ALSO, from the internet: Our friend and recent guest Dan Abbott of Bobby Joe Ebola & the Children MacNuggits has a kickstarter campaign in its last few days. Please consider donating and pre ordering their latest and most ambitious album yet. The musicianship is top notch and the comedy is hilarious. Link here: http://kck.st/45BqmyZ

Have a great week everyone and thanks for making us a part of it. Life is short and we love you.

This trio consists of Daniel on guitar Dave on drums and computer programs, and James on bass and vocals. Dave points out that James is the visionary front man providing lyrics as well. James insists it’s a group effort.

Their sound feels like early goth mixed with overdriven guitars, kind of like Swans. James and Daniel are brothers and found Dave through the magic of Craigslist. They’re a great match.

95.1 FM KNVC is community radio programmed for the people by the people, headed up by Steve Funk and Will Houk who, much to our pleasure and invite, dropped by the Dogwater Studios to give us the four one one on what’s happening with their totally rad homegrown radio station in Carson City.

Funk & Houk

For one thing Will is creating

a local music show and KNVC wants your local music. Listen in for how to do that.

We talk about DJs, history and bringing people together with music

Will Houk

Steve and Will give us a live performance each, and we get a track from our buddy Liam Kyle Cahill as well as a couple from the late local musical wiz Colin Ross.

It’s a great conversation with real live radio folk who consider it an art form. As do we.

Steve Funk

Grass roots local community radio is having a revival all across the country and we’re definitely here for it. So do yourself a favor, check it out, consider getting involved and remember, life is short and we love you. Thanks for listening.
