Trouble Show – Get Your One-Way Ticket – S12 E25
It’s a great week here at the Worst Little Podcast. We welcome back our co-conspirator and cohost, Kadillac Kim! We also welcome into the hallowed Dogwater Studios, Reno’s own Trouble Show, a blues rock band that has also survived the trials of the pandemic and is ready to rock your face.
Trouble Show is Brek Lee Durham, Chris Simpson, Greg Souviron, and, unsurprisingly, Kyle Visco. THey had just gotten things dialed in as a band before The Shutdown and were able to keep it going. They have recently released their first EP “Split the Difference”, available digitally in all the regular places.
Their dance card is pretty open right now, but their roadhouse sound and tight execution would round out many a bill. We look forward to seeing them next at the upcoming Marianarchy XVIII: A Benefit for Andy Hernandez, but if you’ve got a slot to fill, give em an ol’ ring-a-ding-ding on the Messenger.
Speaking of shows, There are a few happening this weekend: One Ton Dually Will be opening for Snailmate and Deplete at The Cellar on Friday night on a mixed-bill show. you are not going to want to miss Rock Against Racism: A Mutual Aid Benefit Show featuring none other than the Cobra Skulls with Fleshies and local support THeeeeeee Saturday Knights, Action Bastard!!, and Pussy Velour. Fuck. That’s a sweet lineup.
Trouble Show is a great sounding band that you should definitely keep on your radar. I know we will.

Jade Moschino – Vagazzled – S12 E17
NSFW to the max. Continuing our long running tradition of bringing you all sides of the Reno music scene, we have probably one of the MOST NSFW episodes we have ever published. The trigger warnings have trigger warnings. Two Live Crew would blush at some of these songs; ODB would make his children leave the room when these tracks come on.
Behind the raunchy lyrics is Jade Moschino, a Reno-based drag queen and rapper. She has six years into the rap game, and I can honestly say, I’ve never heard anything like her. As our first episode for pride month, Jade is like a brick through a plate-glass window – unexpected and devastating. Jade is joined by friend and hype man, Joshua. Strong an silent, he holds back a little on the show, but opens up more during the quiz.
Coming up this weekend is a world of fun in the Reno scene including Mixed Bill Friday at Davidsons’ Distillery, the opening weekend of Clue – On Stage at Bruka, and Mentally ILL -SE Comedy at Alturas

Roxxy Collie – And Your Bird Can Sing S12 E12
Welcom back, music fans! This week we have the beautiful rock music of Roxxy Collie.
A female fronted quintet, Roxxy Collie has a full rich sound , deep lyrics and humor. They’ve been called ‘art rock’ and ‘chillcore’, they’re very unique for sure.
The lineup is Margy Ford, the songbird, Jon Cornell on keyboard, Stephen on electric guitar, Nick Ramirezon beats, and their newest member, Larry Cooper, on bass and background vocals.
We discuss Dogwater Dick’s weekend, dead birds, song lyrics and the Reno Punk Rock Flea Market among other things.
We get a bunch of new material from the band and a sweet Duran Duran cover at the end.

Danny Horton – Silver Tongue Devil – S12 E6
The devil came to Greenville and our guest this week, Danny Horton (aka Jack Danny), took notice. He penned a beautiful song about it. That’s what Danny does with his original material, he writes about his experiences. Like the song that kicked off his adventure into a solo career, “Dear Miss Rose”, written while walking home from jail.
Another song was written after hearing the sound of a distant train while washing dishes. Danny finds inspiration in everything. He’s a beautiful soul with wonderful stories. Each song is a tale told using his sweet Martin guitar, a kick drum, foot tamb and that voice: sometimes weathered vagabond, sometimes smooth crooner and other times hooten and hollerin’. He knows his vocal instrument well and has emotion and range. I liken it to outlaw country folk with a bit of punk rock aesthetic. He’s one of the rare musicians who crosses over and can play punk shows or honkytonks. If X, Hank III, Larry And His Flask, Chris Stapleton, Willie Nelson were some kind of festival line up, Danny Horton would fit the bill.
We hear some road stories from the “Jack Danny” days, when he earned his nickname, to sober Danny Horton days, still getting harassed by the man. Most of us have known Danny for decades now and couldn’t be more proud of the artist and man he’s become. Pink Awful-The Awful Truth
This week, Rick, Nick and Intern Mouse came in on The Lovers Holiday to catch up and say farewell to one of our absolute favorite Reno bands, Pink Awful. They have announced that key founding members Ashley Costelloe and Mike Miller are engaged to be married and are moving to Chicago. Drummer Chris Croft rounds out the band on their latest and potentially final, double EP “Apophenia”.
The first cd is red and the second is white. The red one they say is more rocking of the two, more guitars and more like their previous records, and the white one is more moody and electronic. They’re both fantastic, experimental and cinematic. They’d fit in on a lineup like Siouxie and the Banshees, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Le Tigre, Santigold, LCD Soundsystem, Radiohead or Sonic Youth. If you like any of those bands , I think you’re going to dig them.
They are unique in that they’re the ones who sound like Pink Awful. Influenced by others but totally original and refreshing. We talk a lot about each of the five songs previewed. How they created them sonically, technically,how the lyrics came to be and a little insight into their meaning. The music is so different song to song. Dogwater Dick hooked up the studio so we could experience the songs in stereo, a luxury we don’t always have. I highly recommend listening to the two EP’s back to back on headphones or in the car. Sometimes the sound is enormous and sometimes it’s sub-fi ( a term invented on this episode by Mike to describe their lower than low-fi tunes.). We get the origin story of their name and it’s not what anyone thought!
It’s a bittersweet episode and it gets a little emotional. Ashley first joined us in season one, I think, with the duo Sleepy Sunshine, back at the old studio in Sparks. She was there at the Zephyr when Marianarchy was still a new thing. With all that history and all the great music and shows they’ve given Reno, it was hard to hold back some tears.

One Ton Dually – Rise of the Oldpunks – S12 E2
Continuing in our series of bands who have kept it going through the long winter, we welcome back One Ton Dually! Yes, this is kinda the ‘house band’ (in that Nick and Rory are in it), but we haven’t had them on in four and a half years, so we thought we’d check in and see if they’ve gotten any better.
One Ton Dually is Thee Reverend Rory Dowd (bass, vocals), Nick Ramirez (drums, vocals), Spike Richie (guitar, vocals), and Jack Soft (guitar). They’ve switched the lineup and added some more songs – we get treated to a whole lineup of new songs this episode. As Dogwater Dick quips, they’ve embraced the sloppy punk rock band inside.
They are hungry for Reno rock and roll shows and despite some reschedulings due to the ongoing pandemic (committed to being safe these fellows are), they are excited to invite you to their first show in 2022 at The Matador with Thee Living Daylights and Triflin’ Bitches. It should be a train wreck of a good time.

John Frederick – Thanksgiving: The Musical! – S11 E37
A little late for the holiday, but we are still thankful for this show, starring our wonderful guest and friend, the multitalented actor, musician, director, teacher, father and husband, John Frederick! John was also our very first intern from Season 3, in 2013!
We get to preview some songs he’s written for an as yet untitled musical he’s working on. You see, after lockdown took affect, John , who doesn’t watch much television, got busy learning piano. And hot damn if he didn’t succeed in record time. Seriously, he’s sounding like Randy Newman! Back in the day Mr Frederick played guitar, so we were totally and pleasantly surprised by the new talent. Kudos buddy!
John is a great storyteller and deep thinker. He workshops an idea for a podcast and takes us into the world of the Nashville songwriting circuit. We had so much fun talking we ran a little long. Thanks John!

Action Bastard! – Barely Contained – S11 E35
Like a heat attack of the ear, we are here to assault you with the cacophonous chaos of Action Bastard! Like a fine dose of toilet vodka, they will leave your palate burning for more. It’s an exciting show – a full house of host and guests – we even had to put the butt trumpeteer in studio B, if you know what I mean.
Action Bastard! were the best band in the world, one upon a time, and pair well with over-aged cheese. As they say in the language of their people, “It doesn’t matter what you’ve done, only how you boil the squirrel.”

Cryptillians – Cyclops Was A Monster – S11 E34
This week on WLP we (Rick and Nick) had the pleasure to hang loose with power trio Cryptilians . Not THE Cryptilians! If you hear someone get it wrong and say THE, take a drink!
Is grunge still a genre? Mudhoney still embraces the label, so if it’s good enough for them , I’ll embrace it. It’s definitely a big influence on this band. Cobain-esque you might say. There’s a pop punk vibe too. Indie, DIY aesthetics. Yada-yada-yada. Whatever genre blend they are, their songs are catchy, interesting, and they rock!
Lanny is the guitarist and front man . Pat on bass and Joey on drums. We find out how Joey, newest and hairiest member, had to beat a robot on drums upon auditioning for the group. Needless to say, all other applicants were sent home. Joeys hard rock, metal style of drumming was just what the guys needed . Now having ditched Hal3000, the Cryptilians (drink up!) are ready to play a bunch of shows they have scheduled through the rest of the year. They also plan some touring in the summer. You can find them on all the platforms. They’ve been working with Dogwater Dick on a new album and are pumped for the future!
We talk a bit about the last Murderock show (Nick and Rick attended). Farewell to Reno’s premier horror rock outfit. Sick bastards. Oh yeah! We meet our new intern Mouse! So far so good! Welcome aboard! The quiz was a lot of fun. These fellas are good at the funny. Thanks dudes!

Franky’s Chop Shop – Nice Chops – S11 E31
Horror, surf, metal, industrial and punk rock; Franky’s Chop Shop has it all. It’s he perfect soundtrack for a hard rockin’ bikini beach bash from hell! We get into the making of this new project from the mad mind of Murderock‘s Franky (Chris Alexander).
This just in: (That’s right, you heard it here first) Keith (Jewett) still hates fun. He loves books though! He and Dogwater Dick talk about their book club “member”ship (inset Beavis and Butthead laugh… heh… I said ‘insert’) Drummer Carlos Pintor wasn’t able to make it (possibly on Franky’s operating table).
Joining Franky and Keith is their member from another band, the always delightful Freddy Ferox (Murderock/Sonic Dead/Candy Apple and the Razorblades) who is just along for the ride this week. He does provide stiff competition in the quiz (heh heh). Nick and Dick make sure to drive that bus off the gross cliff this week – not to yuck anyone’s yum, but: have fun.
Sadly, Murderock’s FINAL SHOW is going to be later this month – 10/30 at Alturas’ Cellar , with A Wormhole Could Kill Us All and Hired Fun. From the desk of Nick Ramirez: “I know I speak for the whole podcast when I say we’re truly going to muss you, Murderock. Y’all killed it. RIP”
