…but trouble always seems to find him.
Hey everybody! We continue to switch things up on you and keep the show at least as fresh as day old bread! Veteran troubadour and troublemaker, Bruce Lindsay, treats us to some of his poetry and music. He’s a combination of deep waters and a babbling brook – there’s something deep there, amongst the light, shadow and rocks, but sometimes all you get is shallow. Luckily, Lindsay brought his A-game – and a bunch of books CDs and copies of his award-winning movie “Under the Radar”that he gave to us! This cat knows how to treat big-time stars!
Nick hits Rory with a curve ball in the middle of the episode – he challenges Reverend Rory and Bruce Lindsay to a poetry read-off. The wordsmiths dust off some works from ye olde Blue Lamp Open Mic days and do battle with literary claymores – Lindsay took the title by the smallest of margins (mostly since I LET HIM win, cause I’m classy like that). It was strangely a lot more fun than it sounds – a rare treat for and from the vaults.
Our main focus this week, aside from all the crazy creativve and wonderful things Bruce Lindsay does, is MARIANARCHY WINTERBALL 2012 – A Benefit for Tom Plunkett!!!!! As if you weren’t aware, Marianarchy is this weekend and we are helping out our good friend, Tom Plunkett, Reno actor, director, musician, personal friend of Bruce Lindsay AND the show. Nick reads off the list of band names or you can check out the Day 1 lineup here and the Day 2 lineup here. The Rev will be hosting it (Saturday is his birthday) and we are looking forward to a really really great weekend. Please join us!!!!
Thanks for Listening!!

Welcome to the start of your summer season, Reno!
As I mentioned in last week’s post, Jess Blaze, local promoter and true believer, passed away in her sleep. We start the show with an audio tribute to Jess; we humbly share these memories of a woman we all loved very much. She was also a big part of …..
That’s right! After months and months of teasing it out – IT’S REALLY HERE!!! MARIANARCHY 2012!!!!!!! Friday May 18 and Saturday May 19!!!
It’s one hell of a line up this year, with the reunions of Phat Couch and Gunshot Licker on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively. There’s a raffle and silent auction, Happy-Hour Potluck, BBQ. Admission is whatever you can donate to the cause. This year, the proceeds will go to benefit the familes of Rev. Gary Setzer and Jess Blaze (who are secretly pissed that they’re missing this show, or so I’m told). The events will be emceed by yours truly, Reverend Rory. Come see me turn into Jerry Lewis over a 48 hour period!!!
Seriously, though – this is probably my favorite event in Reno every year. You should really check it out. Marianarchy is at the cultural heart of Reno and Ground Zero for a lot of the love and camraderie in the Reno music and sart scenes. It is really something special and you should check it out.
Also on the show this week is Reno City Councilman and Sparks-core native, Dave Aiazzi. Dave is a really good friend of Nick’s and a big supporter of our simmering arts scene here in Reno. He also knows how to take a joke (Thanks in advance for not getting a cease and desist on the picture, Dave). Irma Geddon jumps into the fray with some insightful questions about how people can get things done with the city, what happened to the Occupy Moana thing, and what is up with that airline food? For his part, Dave does not particularly care for the airline chicken plate. I think Dave had something he wanted to talk about, but we all kept badgering him with questions and cutting to the music. It was probably important.
Maybe next time. Ha?
At any rate – Come to MARIANARCHY 2012 at JUB JUB’S THIRST PARLOR! MAY 18 AND 19!!!!

We finally fucking got them!!!!!
…and they are fucking rad.
Before I get into the show, we do want to take a moment to remember Rev. Gary Setzer, a dynamic piece of the Reno Music scene for many years. His battle with throat cancer came to an end on March 7 and a hole appeared in our lives. There will be a memorial for Gary on Sunday March 27 at Jon A’s Nugget. Details can be found on his Facebook page (follow the hyperlink). Marianarchy 2012 will also be a benefit for his surviving family. Make sure you come out and dig deep to take care of our own. Now back to the show!
Memory Motel is Chris ‘CJ’ Gibson (Guitar, Lead Vocals, Banjo, Cello), Sam Ashlock (Bass, Synth, Charango, Vocals, Soul) and Ben Ashlock (Drums). I first saw these guys at the Reno Block party at Wingfield Park last summer. Their music was pretty phenomenal – all over the road, sincere, tight and great execution. Then, at the end of the set, CJ smashed his fucking guitar. For real. On stage. Cut his hand open and was bleeding. I thought to myself – Who does that?? I also thought – I NEED them on the podcast. It only took 9 months, but here we finally are. Chris did NOT smash a guitar on the episode mostly because Rick vetoed it on account of all his expensive mics but we still have a lot of fun.
As we like to track our ‘firsts’, this is the first time we have had an underage band on the show. That’s right – none of these boys are even old enough to get a drink. Ben is barely old enough to drive a car!!! We hope we didn’t make them say anything that is going to get them in too much trouble with their parents, teachers, prospective girlfriends, doctors, police or tax collector. And if we did – so what – welcome to the “rock and troll” lifestyle. boys!!! Really though, do NOT let their age deceive you, these are three of the hottest young musical talents in town. Memory Motel is one of the most complicated and excellent bands in Reno right now. Check out their next gig at The Studio on 4th on March 24th. Hell, check out their Kickstarter.com project to do a vinyl 7″!
I also want to wish a very belated birthday to Webmaster Burks! Happy 30-something, faggot! We couldn’t do this without your help maintaining it all!
And a big TANKS to our newest production assistant, Irma Geddon! She is helping Dogwater Dick behind the scenes as well.
Thanks for Listening!
