This week we welcome the fabulous Kat Heart to Dogwater studios for her fifth appearance on the Worst Little Podcast.
She brought her pedals, her guitar and her telephone mic to create a layered one woman performance that feels soulful and ethereal. With a prolific drive and seemingly endless inspiration, Kat is a songwriting machine.
Kat has recently been tapped to book musicians for stages lining Reno’s Fourth street music and arts district. Hosting open mics, karaoke, shows, rehearsals with her band Feral Heart, solo work and keeping her family together, not to mention all that life throws at us. Kat can juggle all that and still find time for others, random occurrences that require discussion, some deep thinking, self-awareness, honesty and vulnerability, but most of all practicing coming from a place of love.
This is truly who Kat is. She’s a survivor and authentic. It’s been a pleasure to get to watch Kat rise and thrive.
We had a wonderful time going places we usually avoid; religion, politics and a little local hot gossip.

This week’s guest is a familiar name, the fantastic Kat Heart on guitar and voice and her new trio with one of our heroes from the Atomiks, Luke Hoffman on standup bass and newcomer to the Dogwater studios, Erick Graham on drums. They are called Feral Heart, and they click man.
We talk about how they formed, what they think of each other, their kismet connection to John Popper and his fiancé Gidget, opening for Grace Potter and Kat’s upcoming show at Alturas this Friday with Roxxy Collie and Bang Marry Kill.
Feral Heart is a soulful, groovy, slightly jazzy with a tinge of psychedelic surf vibes and the grit and passion of women like Janis Joplin and Nina Simone. At times they feel like a great bar band, the soundtrack for the high desert and sipping cocktails outside at sunset. Relaxing, interesting and always from the heart. That’s how Kat rolls. As summer winds down, our guests this week are still heating things up with their sexy, sexy music. Kat Heart’s Fresh Hot Mess brings it good. A foursome congealed out of dreams and desire, they keep a busy schedule in different configurations. (This sounds sexual, but it totally is not)
This is a sexy sexy band, though – and I mean the music AND the people. We have a great time talking with them, talking shit about booking shows, how they all met and how The Saxman helped put this together. They are a rhythm and rock band, so find someone you want to grind on and put it in your ear.
