Put on your fancy clothes and dancin’ shoes!
I took the week off, so I’m not really here. Reverend Rory had another birthday this week and blew off the show to spend it with his ladies (homemade cheesecake and ravioli!). We all wish he never comes back has another great trip around the sun! In studio, coming through at the 11th hour, we have The Jenny and jeff Show (capitalization intended)! Good friends of the show, Jeff Done (Walk of Shame, Stevedave, Fall Silent) and Jenny Pez DeSpencer (Reno Tahoe Comedy, Knitting Factory, 3rd Street Bar) come by to hang out, and by hang out we mean, Jenny takes over the show with out the Rev, to reign her in with his own oversized ego.
(Since I wasn’t on teh show, I don’t really know what happenend yet and I’m going to listen tomorrow with you, so I’m going to focus on)
MARIANARCHY WINTER BALL 2014 – A BENEFIT FOR GREG ALLEN
As you all know, the podcast is intrinsically involved with Marianarchy Reno, an organization Nick Ramirez started many years ago to benefit Reno artists in need and the art community in general, in memory of Marianne Psota. This year, our Winter Ball will be going to benefit Greg Allen, the legendary Reno painter, photographer and artist. After declining health for some time, Greg has let it be known that he has congestive heart failure. As a long-time friend of all of us at WLP, and espeically Nick and Marianne, it was inevitable that Marianarchy Reno step up to help a brother out.
This year’s festivities will feature 37 local bands over two days – Friday 12/12 and Saturday 12/13 – as well as performances by local comedians an art auction and much more. According to the Mistress of Prizes, Risky Burn, “We are going to have a massive orgy of items for you to win! We want this to be a successful fundraiser so that Greg Allen cannot only be deliciously bathed in your melodic hugs, but raise some monies to be useful for him, allowing him to concentrate on his health. So save some bones and let us relieve you of your cash while distracting you with art, gift certificates, bar tabs, and more.”
Also, Nick plays some tunes and New Girl takes a spin in the chair again.
Well, I have to go rehearse for the show – Playing in Princess Bombs and Lighter Theif – but I expect to see you there. Another big thanks to Jenny and Jeff for coming in to hang out with Nick and New Girl.
Thanks for Listening,
Good News and Bad News, everyone!
Key, kids! What’s up?!? It’s a fantastic week over here at the palatial Dogwater Studios. The good news is that Evil Dead: The Musical has completely sold out the run of the show – you’ll have to catch us in 2015 if you didn’t see it yet. The bad news is that The Annual Dogwater Punkin’ Carving Party is cancelled this year. Dogwater Dick wants to take one year in 20 off, so we guess that’s fair.
In the long and storied tradition of the show, we picked up a guy at the open mic to play on the show. Angel Garcia, Reno musician and singer, joins us this week to rattle out some of his songs on the innerwebs. Garcia has actively been playing music in Reno for the last year or so, typically as a solo act, but also with a few bands. Prior to Northern Nevada, he was in SoCal, where he gained the moniker “Toxicblinds” as a DeeJay. Despite his rough and freakish exterior, Angel sings like… (not gonna say it!) a pretty pop star. It’s not exactly bubblegum punk rock, but he shure dew have a purty voice.
Early in the show, we take a phone call with Reno’s own #1 female comedian, Jenny PezDeSpencer! Jenny is having another live show at Jub Jub’s on November 8 that she wants you to go to. Her sets are raucous and awesome and delightfully offensive. Take a chance! Be a part of a live comedy album and chekkit out.
In a surprise move, “Magic” Larry Cooper drops by the studio and sits in with us for a whole to tell us about his new album that he’s been recording with Dogwater Dick. Larry’s a dick. He totally hijacks Angel’s show
and gets really drunk and breaks stuff. At least he pays his dues and takes part in the quiz.
Don’t forget, in the spirit of the season, come check out the Rocky Horror Extravaganza with music by Pinky Polanski and hosted by Thee Reverend Rory Dowd. Tickets will go fast for them, so get them online now or at the Whitney Peak main desk. Happening on Halloween 10/31/14 there is an all ages show at 8pm and an all adults show at midnight

Hey Kids! How’s it going out there in the real world? That bad? Well, pull up a stool and listen to to some powerful depressin’ songs by this week’s guest, Myke Read, and feel better about yourself. Myke is better known for playing with the Infecto Skeletons, but recently he’s made a venture into the world of country music, acoustic guitars and prison songs. Chekkout how purty Myke Read sings.
Also in studio is Jenny PezDespencer, talking about her upcoming comedy show at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor. She will be recording a live album at this show, so it’s going to be a lot of fun! Listen in for the BIG CONTEST to win tickets to this live comedy album recording of Jenny PezDespencer, one of our favorite Reno comics.
Jeff Done, bright eyed and bushy tailed, hangs out with us during the show too. It’s good to see Jeff.
We3 also have a brief phone call with next week’s guests, Dan Harmann and Ky Alfred Hillig. Both hail from Washington and will be playing at St. James Infirmary on Monday 5/19, just after coming onto the podcast to record with us! Fun guys on the phone, we can’t wait to hang out and give them the Worst Little Quiz next week – they’ll have no idea
(unless they read this. which they won’t.) Take a sec to chekkout their music ans stop by the show!
Finally, lets not forget about this weekend – MARIANARCHY X – Friday, May 16th and Saturday May 17th. 30+ bands in two days! We’ve been raising money for 10 years to help out our Reno family and artists and non-profits, in honor of the late Marianne Psota, with huge support from the community. THis year’s beneficiaries are Keely Davis, a little girl with Down’s Syndrome, and Emily Reese, Reno teacher and personality on the Reno Tahoe Tonight Show on Nevada Matters and Renegade Radio, who was recently diagnosed with cancer after already having beaten it into submission. As we say around Maryanarchy, “Fuck Your Cancer!”, and now “Fuck Your Syndrome” joins the catalogue of Jub-isms. It is going to be another great show this year. Please come out and help us make a difference in someone’s life, once again.
Thanks for Listening!
“It’s not the guest’s fault – it’s all mine.” – Reverend Rory
WARNING: I want to start this post with a warning. I, Reverend Rory Dowd, am a big bucket of fail this week. Right out of the gate, I faceplant into a brick wall, every joke I tell and bit of information I say in the first 30 min of the show is wrong wrong wrong WRONG! I apologize in advance. But I was SAVED-uh! Josiah Knight, Reno singer/songwriter, comes in and plays some really killer tunes for us, picking the show right back up. This guy is a new-ish friend to all of us (within the last 365, at least), and a welcome addition to our music scene.
We are also saved early on in the show by a fun interview with Dustin Kaufman of the Weediculous Comedy Tour. He and three other LA area comics are travelling around the country in a minivan, filming a documentary about their tour and the state of marijuana culture in the US today. Many of their stops are in dispensaries and cafes, but here in Reno – we got them coming down to the Shea’s Tavern!! Thursday night, 5/9 (today for most of you) at 9pm he and his cohort will be kicking it off – filming it live for a documentary that should be up on Netflix … at some point. (As we know from Nowhere Nevada, a movie is only finished when it’s done!) Opening up for them are Reno Comedians, Jenny PezDeSpencer and Brandon Lara! Good times….
Before I ruin anything else, I’m going to sign off.
Thanks for Listening!
Fuckyourdeath: The 2013 Edition
This past Sunday morning, we lost an important part of the Reno scene – guitarist, songwriter and frontman Dale Kellams gave up the ghost in his fight with cancer. It fuckin’ sucks. Dale was a good friend to many people and a seminal influence on the music of Reno since the ’90s. We pay tribute to Dale this episode by playing a bunch of SPROUT songs and talking about his goofy ass.
We also have in the studio, the ever filthy and inappropriate, Jenny PezDespencer. Not only was she a very close friend to Dale, but she was also originally booked to come on and promote A Salon 7’s 9th Annual White Party Fundraiser. With her is our new friend Phillip Brown. The two of them are dirty, dirty birds and should be spanked. Repeatedly. Slowly. 😉
After the weekend recap, we get a call in from Dave Masud of The Vampirates, who are just having the craziest tour out on the East Coast. Currently in Florida, they’ll be back in time for Marianarchy 2013: A Benefit for Dale Kellams. We look forward to more updates from the road.
That’s about all I have for this week. Pour one down for Dale, enjoy the show and memories and we’ll see you later.
Thanks for listening.
NEW SEASON!! GAME ON!!!!
Welcome to Season Three of The Worst Little Podcast in the World! So, yeah, we have Max Volume of the Max Volume Band and on-air personality for KOZZ on the show. But first, just like in the episode – we have a phone call with Mr. Bobby Slayton! Thanks to our connections at The Reno Tahoe Comedy Club, we were able to spend a good 20 minutes talking to “The Pitbull of Comedy”. Well, talking to Bobby Slayton might be an exaggeration – listening to him bust Rev. Rory’s chops and
lie talk about how much he likes Reno is more like it. He’s a pro and really came to play. Great opening segment. Be sure to catch Bobby Slayton at The Pioneer Underground THIS Friday and Saturday night where he’ll be appearing with a bunch of local comics including friends of the show Jenny PezDeSpencer, Pat Shillito and Matt Wiegand!
We had a lot of fun with Max on the show. A great talent and a staple of Reno radio for years, he’s a blast to sit and talk to – hearing him namedrop all the famous people you and I will never meet – mostly because he’s old as dirt and they’re all dead!! Man, good times! Or those times when he played one of FOUR BRAND NEW SONGS!!! That’s right – Worst Little Podcast exclusive recordings of Max Volume. And you thought we’d forgotten our promises! Here we are two years later, still delivering the goods!
We’d also like to welcome on board our brand new sponsors, Reno Computer Fix. Justin and Ian over there are pretty awesome guys, supporting the arts in Reno with gallery space in a techie repair shop and keeping our computers running. Part of the Wells Avenue crew, they’re near everybody, so please check them out and mention that you heard about them from us! And while I’m on the subject of sponsors – check out Waking Girl Web Design if you need design, content or social media coordination or consultation. OK – between Bobby Slayton, Max Volume, Reno Computer Fix and Waking Girl, I think that’s enough shameless plugs for one post. Oh, and Jub Jub sez – “Fuck your podcast!”
Thanks for listening!
What a way to end a year!
We’re wrapping things up with some great momentum this year. It took me all year to
remember to book the young men of CRUSH on the podcast. Daniel, Jimmy and Aaron stopped by to grace us with an acoustic set of their techno-rock-dubstep-pop. Not only did they and their awesome three-part harmonies kill it, but they came to have fun. We really didn’t have to ask many questions; the boys took the conversation wherever they wanted it. And that was mostly talking about pot. Pot and not getting laid.
From Walden’s to the Knitting Factory to the Alley, CRUSH can pack the house with more teenagers than any other party band in town. Mostly because they themselves are fresh out of HS, and diligently applying themselves to the College of Rock and Roll! All joking aside, with two full-length CDs under their belt, they are serious about being working musicians and have the chops to prove it. Even in an acoustic set, their tight songwriting and performance skills shine through. PLUS they are the favorite local band of Rikku, who recorded them a special message-song that we play at the top of the show.
Also in studio is everyone’s favorite potty mouth – Jenny PezDeSpencer!!! Yeah, Jenny’s back, bigger than life and killing it.
Jenny is working hard at hardly working. She has a slew of shows this very weekend. Friday night she is opening up for national comedian Ramsey Moore at The Knitting Factory. Saturday, you can catch her at the Reno Tahoe Comedy Club at Pioneer Underground with Thai Rivera who you can catch on Comedy Central specials. Sunday, she’ll probably be hungover or at Red Rock comedy night. Or both. Probably both.
One final note – we’d like to welcome newest whipping boy, John Frederick, to the cast. He’ll be working under Dogwater Dick for a while. He’ll also be learning about live recording and podcasting and stuff. (See what I did there?) That’s all for now….
Thanks for Listening!!
You have questions. We have questions. Answers…. meh.
Hello, loyal listeners; yow are ye? We have a pretty interesting show this week, with another Worst Little Podcast first, as is our wont. This week we tackle the realm of politics and have some face time with one of the members of the media committee from Occupy Reno, Tom L. While we
attack him with vitriol and annoying questions ask a lot of dumb questions (someone has to), Tom does a pretty admirable job of fielding them and letting us know more about the aims of Occupy Reno. Hand signals, permits and dealing with carpetbagging shills are just some of the insights he brings from the Occupy Reno General Assembly and march.
But it’s not all boring politics, no! We have our fair share of toilet humor and biting wit – most of it supplied this week by Reno comedian and entertainment journalist, Jenny PezDeSpencer. And I’ll just say it now: Jenny is a dirty girl. That’s why we love her. Jenny just barely edges out Tom during the Worst Little Quiz, pretty much solely based on her feminine wiles. She does bring her jornalist’s hat to the show and doesn’t let Tom off the hook without trying to interview Occupy Reno. You can catch Jenny’s words in Reno Tahoe Tonight and onstage at Pioneer Underground Comedy Shows .
Chewie busts out some old skool tunes for your listening pleasure. Gunshot Likker and Lodestar punch your face in during the first half of the show, then GOB rips your head off in the end. Also, don’t forget to check out the Reno Zombie Crawl website – it’s going to be a great crawl this year!
Once again, ladies, gents and children of a legal drinking age – thanks for listening!
