Join us this week as we journey into the mind and heart of the magic making duo known as Blunderbusst (and sometimes noise vessel Wizard Colors).
Songwriter Jen Scaffidi sings vocals and plays guitar, holding down rhythm and melodies joined by the soundscapes and otherworldly guitar vibes of Carson Cessna.
Blunderbusst is a unique band of many configurations. Always producing dreamy, intricate pieces with intriguing lyrics, interesting guitar work and Jens beautiful voice. Sweet with a childlike innocence, very playful and sometimes sultrier. Though we did miss drummer Carolyn Gates beats, on hiatus while she’s off doing rad things, Blunderbusst is still as powerful and fun to listen to. We just love the heck out of them.
We also celebrate the graduation of our faithful intern “Lee”, Jen’s sister, and half of the tribute band Tenacious Double D, Amy Scaffidi!
We’re stoked and proud to have her join the WLP cast as an official associate producer and cohost of the show.
This weekend our very own Kadillac Kim and her cohorts with the Reno Punk Rock Flea Market are throwing their annual holiday event, Fleas the Season, at the Neil Road Rec Center. Get some holiday shopping done and rock out with a bunch of great bands. All ages. Definitely one of the best events of the year. Don’t miss out!
You can find Blunderbusst on all the usual platforms, and at blunderbusst.com.
Life is short, rock out more often. Thanks for listening.
It’s always awesome to welcome old friends back in the hallowed halls of the Dogwater Studios, especially these two: Jen Scaffidi and Carson Cessna. Jen and Carson are 2/3 of the perennial Carson rockers Blunderbusst and all of the noise sorcerers known as Wizard Colors. True to form, Jen brings a whole slate of new new songs for us to listen to this week.
Per usual, while on hiatus, they have still been hard at work crafting songs about life and self. They are set to head into the studio to create yet another full-length and are approaching it in a novel way for them. lovely and talented Carolyn Gates is on hiatus and could not make it out, but we love her, wish her will hand hope to see her again soon.
Hope you’re having a holiday. Thanks for listening.
What can I say about Jen Scaffidi that hasn’t already been said in hushed tones whenever she’s not around? I could say that she is an accomplished singer/songwriter, as a solo act or in one of many bands. I could say she is as comfortable playing indie/pop as she is generating noise-core. And I could also say she is truly one of the most supportive people I’ve ever known in my life. But that would be a bit much and sound like ass-kissing, so I won’t say any of those things.
It really was a lit of chaotic fun to have Jen in the studio with us again. SHE was particularly excited to know that we were breaking in our newest intern on this episode. That’s right – RaggMopp is out of school and able to stay out late enough to get to
be our slave work for a great education in podcast production. (For free.) She doesn’t get to say much – but know that she is there getting us pens and coffee at a moment’s notice.
Scaffidi will be making some noise up at Canvas Cafe, with a solo set at 1pm on Friday 06/25. Check out the Worst Little Grid below or on Instagram (or even on Twitter) for more shows in the coming week. Don’t see your show? Let us know on any social media or send the info to at our Grid email!
Thanks for Listening

Blunderbusst is Jen Scaffidi, Carolyn Gates, and Carson Cessna. We’re waiting with baited breath for upcoming show dates. Worst Little Podcast Listeners will be some of the first in the know. We hear there might be some stuff happening at Foxy Olive and St. James Infirmary soon! We loved having these three on the show again. Let’s hope it’s not another six years for the next time.

Welcome to the start of your summer season, Reno!
As I mentioned in last week’s post, Jess Blaze, local promoter and true believer, passed away in her sleep. We start the show with an audio tribute to Jess; we humbly share these memories of a woman we all loved very much. She was also a big part of …..
That’s right! After months and months of teasing it out – IT’S REALLY HERE!!! MARIANARCHY 2012!!!!!!! Friday May 18 and Saturday May 19!!!
It’s one hell of a line up this year, with the reunions of Phat Couch and Gunshot Licker on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively. There’s a raffle and silent auction, Happy-Hour Potluck, BBQ. Admission is whatever you can donate to the cause. This year, the proceeds will go to benefit the familes of Rev. Gary Setzer and Jess Blaze
(who are secretly pissed that they’re missing this show, or so I’m told). The events will be emceed by yours truly, Reverend Rory. Come see me turn into Jerry Lewis over a 48 hour period!!!
Seriously, though – this is probably my favorite event in Reno every year. You should really check it out. Marianarchy is at the cultural heart of Reno and Ground Zero for a lot of the love and camraderie in the Reno music and sart scenes. It is really something special and you should check it out.
Also on the show this week is Reno City Councilman and Sparks-core native, Dave Aiazzi. Dave is a really good friend of Nick’s and a big supporter of our simmering arts scene here in Reno. He also knows how to take a joke
(Thanks in advance for not getting a cease and desist on the picture, Dave). Irma Geddon jumps into the fray with some insightful questions about how people can get things done with the city, what happened to the Occupy Moana thing, and what is up with that airline food? For his part, Dave does not particularly care for the airline chicken plate. I think Dave had something he wanted to talk about, but we all kept badgering him with questions and cutting to the music. It was probably important.
Maybe next time. Ha?
At any rate – Come to MARIANARCHY 2012 at JUB JUB’S THIRST PARLOR! MAY 18 AND 19!!!!
As promised, here is a “Best of” episode for this week. Nick picked the songs and is somehow only on half of them! Way to show some restraint, Mr. Rockstar. It’s a really good list of songs and bands that we had on in the first season. I really hope you enjoy it. The misc includes songs from Danielle French, Felix Polanski, Kate Cotter, the Digidelic Cowboy, Merkin, Seasons of Insanity, Red Mercury, Blunderbusst, Hella A Capella and Trever Crow. Diggit
No pictures this week, but some plugs. Lots of difficult Choices this weekend.
1- Friday 4/13 – Present CD release at The Treehouse Lounge with Big Remote and The Gunner’s Daughter.
2- Friday 4/13 – Nor Cal V. Nor Nev at The Alley, featuring The Firebombing, Rat Damage, City of Vain, Urban Wolves and Ill Eagle.
3- Friday and Saturday 4/13 & 14 – Spring Fling with Stiff Kitty, a burlesque review at the Studio on 4th
4- Saturday 4/14 – Birthday Bash at Shea’s with The Melodramatics, Reno We Have a Problem, Trench War Audio and The Liver Scars.
Well, that’s it. Stick a fork in me.
Thanks for listening.
It’s a Brand New Year, but the Same Dumb Show!
Hi there! Did you miss us? We missed our pre show circle-jerks and all of you listeners over the holiday break. It was a great Christmas and Holiday and New Year’s season for everyone. And how about that weather? Huh? Pretty freaking nice if you ask me. I’ll take clouds and 60/70 degree weather over snow and grey skies every Christmas. But a little snow this year would be nice. It’s pretty to look at from inside. Where it’s warm. Anyway…
In the studio this week are our favorite Carson City duo, Blunderbusst! Jen Scaffidi and Carolyn Gates are always super fun to talk to, and totally on the ball, and super rad musicians. They did not disappoint; we all had a great time and they hammered out three lives songs for us. Great first show of the year, clocking in at about 2 hours. But the mouths on these women! Holy shit! They’d make a sailor’s tattoos blush!
We also hop on the phone with Stacey Tolle, currently with Austin’s ‘The People VS. De La Rosa’, but more importantly formerly of Reno’s #1 all time best band
(according to our listener poll) Gunshot Licker! She’s been back in town for the holidays and *gasp* IS PLAYING GUNSHOT LICKER REUNION SHOW ON FRIDAY, 1/6!!!! It’s a benefit for the Rev. Gary Setzer with the Shames, The Gunner’s Daughter and Blunderbusst at Davidson’s Distillery. It’s going to be pretty fantastic and fun and you should all come out. Seriously, if you live within 200 miles of Reno and haven’t seen Gunshot Licker, you NEED to come see this show. Shit like this just doesn’t happen very often. Yo.
Also Don’t forget – The Worst Live Podcast in Reno on Jan 20 at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor where for the first time we will be recording the show in front of a live bar audience! Contests and games – including a YELLING CONTEST!!! – prizes for the winners and a bucket of ‘suck it up’ for the losers! I expect to see you all there!
We’ve got a great year ahead of us and can’t wait to share another year’s worth of Reno music, art and culture with you.
Thanks for Listening.
[ I really don’t appreciate whoever is posting these blogs with my edit coreections still in them. Knock it off! – Ed.]
Special Edition: Cherrybear Records – Behind the Music
We feature a lot of local bands
and that gets really old sometimes, so we thought we’d stretch out to the OTHER side of the music scene – production! Jess from Cherrybear Records takes her turn in the hotseat this week. She is promoting the release of the Great Undiscovered 2011 double-CD set and talks about some of the great bands she has helped turning great ideas into CDs, buttons and more. Mostly though, we just bullshit as usual.
We also welcome back Chewie! He’s finally back from laying brick in Elko, NV and back home to take care of his expectant wife. We should have him until February this time
as long as he doesn’t fuck up the show; it’s good to have him back! We didn’t really get into it, but he had a fantastic weekend what with UNR’s crushing defeat over UNLV at the annual battle for Nevada and the Raider’s triumph. Rory is also quite pleased with your 2011 Green Bay Packers. Great weekend for sports – too bad we don’t have a sports show.
We talk about sex, drugs and rock’n’roll, the Reno Zombie Crawl, tattoos and lots of crazy hi-jinks of the Reno variety. Some days, the conversation flows like water – other times, you get this. Also included for your listening pleasure are some unreleased Courtesy Stitch songs. One of them is “the foulest and dirtiest thing I’ve ever recorded,” according to Dogwater Dick. It’s pretty fucking amazing
…if you’re into train wrecks with a good beat.
Thanks for listening.
