Started in 2011, the Flannel Fish band has been playing rock, and blues jams to entertain and spread a love of music. With a couple Deadheads and a vast variety of influences, Scott plays guitar, Steve on drums, Ali is the lead singer, Chris, also on guitar, Tracy on bass, Bruce plays keyboards, and Henry with percussion, and harmonica. Henry is also from Aversion Therapy who wrote and performed our Worst Little Podcast theme song! Another full circle moment! Now being RENOvated!
Since expanding its membership, they have been recording a new EP and getting their live show ready for the LAF showcase at the Nevada Museum of Art coming up in December.
We hear original songs with a straight up pop rock sound from the 60’s and70’s, even a little 80’s flavor. Let’s put it this way, Sheryl Crow, Dave Matthews, Huey Lewis and the News, Alabama Shakes, that kind of homegrown vibes of a jam band but more structured tunes, rather than long improvised soundscapes, that might be helpful in describing them. Ali’s voice is beautiful, earnest and well, rockin’. She has that thing lead singers need. An almost indescribable unique but familiar “it” factor. Ali is a musical theater gal and maybe that’s why. Whatever the reason, it’s great to hear sweet comforting tones combined with seriously heartfelt and thought-out melodic, lyrical interpretation.
Sometimes they create new songs individually and often they start with riffs and flesh them out together as a group.
With an arsenal of covers and a plethora of originals, Flannel Fish has variety and are quite an eclectic collection of fun people having fun. Making fun music to rock joyfully.
You can find them on all the platforms and most social media.
We play GSBS with Smashing Pumpkins! No time for the quiz this week. All apologies.
So, press play and meet a band we should have had on by now. Better late than never. Way better!
Keep flying the Flannel Fish, and always fish on!
Thanks for listening,
