S7 E35

Congrats on stumbling upon our humble little podcast! This week our hosts sat down with the Adorables to talk some utter nonsense and hear some really great political folk punk.

The Adorables are a bit of a Reno super-group. All three members have been involved in the Reno music scene for years, with impressive stints in some of Reno’s finest rock bands like Stabby Unicorn, Pinky Polanski and Liver Scars (among others!). The Adorables are playing Marianarchy for the first time this December.

S7 E25

Hello and welcome to this weeks episode of the Worst Little Podcast, broadcast from high above the city of Reno fucking Nevada!

Nick, Chewy, Rick and myself, Kadillac Kim, are here to bring you this week’s podcast! Regretfully (for him), the Reverend Rory Dowd is not around this week, but we get plenty of shots in at his expense! This week, as always, we have something really special for our listeners. We have not one, but TWO talented guests in the studio for your listening pleasure. And let me tell you, we talked about pleasure (*winknod*). But really, we have at least one and a half freaks in the room tonight. We’re talking about rope bondage, secret middle names, and how I got the name Kadillac Kim. Spoilers, it was in the parking lot of the Bunny Ranch when I was cornered by strippers in the bathroom of a double wide trailer. So that’s a thing… ANYWAY! We get off on the right foot with Reno country/Americana darling, Gina Rose. Gina will leave you with goosebumps after her first song. Don’t go anywhere or you’ll regret not hearing everything she has to say and sing!

Gina Rose is a singer-songwriter based out of Reno, Nevada. She formed her first band three years ago and has been playing guitar and writing music since she was a youngster (8years old!!). She began her music career opening for punk bands in Reno basements. Despite being a folk singer she won audiences over, with fans telling her that she’s just as heavy as the punk bands she opened for. As Nick points out, though, punk is just outlaw rock & roll and Gina is outlaw country. Her music can be found on her Bandcamp page and she has a new album in the works. She has a show coming up in Virginia City, like her on Facebook to be notified when the event is posted. Do yourselves a favor and don’t miss it or any of her shows! On behalf of the Worst little podcast, thank you miss Gina Rose for your time, some great conversation, and for the bone chilling tunes. You’re going places .

Also in the studio this week is Pat Shillito, local emcee and comedian who has worked at the Laugh Factory (formerly Catch a Rising Star) at the Silver Legacy. Pat also hosts open mic comedy nights all over Reno. Listen to Pat’s quick and dry wit as he discusses the major things going on in the Reno comedy scene.

Until next time, here are my picks for how to spend the next week in Reno!

Especially relevant to current events is The Mountaintop, a play by American playwright Katori Hall. The Publiquors/The Habituals/Vague Choir/Reno We Have a Problem are playing at Shea’s Tavern Saturday night. Reno, We Have a Problem is one of my favorite local punk acts. The other bands are okay too… ANYWAY, go hear RWAP sing about fucking your mom. It’s punk rock! 21+ 9 p.m.

Sunday:

Sunday’s are becoming THE day/night to be out in Reno! Go check out the Sunday Sunset BBQ with Leroy from Hellbound Glory at Alturas on the Down Low. Check out their write up in Rolling Stone here and go see them Sunday! 21+ 5 p.m. No cover

Capturing the Inner Adam

Adam Springob joins us this week as a solo artist. He’s been stepping out from above Greg Gilmore’s very small shadow and showcasing his own singing and songwriting. It’s really good stuff. Unfortunately, you won’t hear it!!!! He brought a damn band with him this week. Actually – he brought TWO bands with him to make one giNORmous band called …. Something Or Other. Joining him in the studio are Michelle Belle (guitar – Scarlet Presence), Carter Stellon (drums – Scarlet Presence), Samantha Gates (fiddle), and Greg Gilmore (bass – Kanes NOT Merkin – lets be clear about this: Greg is not in The Merkins. He’s not that good.)

We had a really fun time with these guys – so much fun that Nick and The Rev had to take off before the show was done!!! They’re not even sure what happens yet!!! There is a lot of talking, yelling and chaos  – more than usual – really. I’m supposed to take down notes and tease it out here, but I seem to have neglected to do that this week, although there is a really awesome drawing of a polar bear holding a surfboard next to the note “Sam seems so nice – why these a-holes?”.

The summer is really starting to fill up!

Now aren'nt they a purty couple....

Reno we have a problem, and they are called Reno We Have A Problem. These punk rock homophobes douchebags think that they can just come into our studio and make a bunch of jokes and drink our beer and be funny and fun to hang out with. Well, fuck them! We’re gonna record them playing acoustic punk for the first time and make it sound really really shitty! Oh, wait … was that my outside voice? I mean… they are… really… cool guys and … their music is… stellarly mediocre. Truly, stellarly…

Logan does the Chicken Dance.

Seriously though, Chris Hart, Foo Phlegm, Logan Bongiovanni and Bobby Laws are all righteous motherfuckers. They lay down some of their dirtiest, crassest most foulmouthed songs on the acoustic trip. This episode is more NSFW than most. I’m not kidding. I dare you to play the first two songs in your office lobby. It’ll be hiLARious!

Don't worry, Bobby isn't drunk - Rick was falling down.

In other news, the guys are all super busy keeping up with all the summer festivals, like the great (Un)Discovered 2012 show happening in 2 days!!!! AT the Dogwater Studios!!!!! Where you can come by and meet most of us in our natural setting – along with a bunch of the best new acts in Reno this year!!! Oh, and Rory is playing guitar for half an hour… or so we think. It should be interesting….

Fezzes are cool. Worship your new leader.

Also coming up soon is the Reno Block Party 2012 at the end of June. Please check out THIS LINK if you are interest in being involved – we are still looking for vendors and artists to fill up our booth space and Artist’s Village as well as volunteers. It is bigger and badder than ever and is really going to showcase the arts community and Burner culture that is making Reno a destination for tourists and working artists alike.

Thanks for listening!

Welcome to the start of your summer season, Reno!

As I mentioned in last week’s post, Jess Blaze, local promoter and true believer, passed away in her sleep. We start the show with an audio tribute to Jess; we humbly share these memories  of a woman we all loved very much. She was also a big part of …..

Marianarchy 2012 setlist

YOU BETTER BE HERE!!!!

That’s right! After months and months of teasing it out – IT’S REALLY HERE!!! MARIANARCHY 2012!!!!!!! Friday May 18 and Saturday May 19!!!

It’s one hell of a line up this year, with the reunions of Phat Couch and Gunshot Licker on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively. There’s a raffle and silent auction, Happy-Hour Potluck, BBQ. Admission is whatever you can donate to the cause. This year, the proceeds will go to benefit the familes of Rev. Gary Setzer and Jess Blaze (who are secretly pissed that they’re missing this show, or so I’m told). The events will be emceed by yours truly, Reverend Rory. Come see me turn into Jerry Lewis over a 48 hour period!!!

Seriously, though – this is probably my favorite event in Reno every year. You should really check it out. Marianarchy is at the cultural heart of Reno and Ground Zero for a lot of the love and camraderie in the Reno music and sart scenes. It is really something special and you should check it out.

Dave Aiazzi_phixr

Dave supports free speech and press!

Also on the show this week is Reno City Councilman and Sparks-core native, Dave Aiazzi. Dave is a really good friend of Nick’s and a big supporter of our simmering arts scene here in Reno. He also knows how to take a joke (Thanks in advance for not getting a cease and desist on the picture, Dave). Irma Geddon jumps into the fray with some insightful questions about how people can get things done with the city, what happened to the Occupy Moana thing, and what is up with that airline food? For his part, Dave does not particularly care for the airline chicken plate. I think Dave had something he wanted to talk about, but we all kept badgering him with questions and cutting to the music. It was probably important.

Maybe next time. Ha?

At any rate – Come to MARIANARCHY 2012 at JUB JUB’S THIRST PARLOR! MAY 18 AND 19!!!!
