This week on WLP we welcome Nevada City’s No Healer with Justin on drums, Barry guitar and vocals, and Blake on bass. They are a genuine, sonic garage, kickass rock and roll outfit. With influences like the Stooges, Dead Moon and the Sonics this power trio knows how to keep it raunchy, hooky, fast paced and wild.

Barry

They’re also funny, with a great chemistry, musically and as bandmates.  This became apparent after a juicy worst little quiz.

No Healer is only a couple years old and we hope they stick around to rock the region and beyond for a long time.

Blake

They have some music on the usual streaming platforms and their next show is at RMU in Truckee California with The Pedaling Mongos. Guaranteed to be a barn burner. You can keep up with them @Nohealerheals on Instagram and Bandcamp.

Thanks for making the journey guys, we had a blast getting to know you.

Justin

Keeping it rock and roll there’s a hot show this weekend at the Cellar at Alturas on Saturday night February 3 with Pussy Velour, Eddie and the Subtitles and Glitter Bats.

Rock and Roll will never die!

Rick says to go see Eddie and the Subtitles this weekend!

Get some. Thanks for listening!

Howdy Reno neighbors and neighborenos! We are back with a fresh new band to meet and explore.

It’s 2024 and the young folks are still punk rocking for the betterment of mankind and for the sheer fun, absurdity and love of it all. These antiwar, pro equality anarcho-punx, Death Means Profit are comprised of Lilith vox, Gwen guitar, Silly bass, and Colin drums. They all hail from different regions of northern Nevada and 3/4 are graduating high school this year.

Lilith

They bring the youthful exuberance and primal kick in the pants the music scene always needs. It’s got a skate punk vibe with the spirit of both English punk, like Subhumans and SoCal hardcore like the Germs. It’s a chaotic underground sound, short songs with a ton of progressive angst. Total freedom to do whatever they want, all making for a wild spontaneous and unpredictable live performance.

Colin
Gwen

Their next appearance will be at the Reno Punk Rock Flea Markets next event.  Punk Rock Prom? More on that later from our very own Kadillac Kim, who met Death Means Profit at Neutral Ground at the Holland Project and we just want to thank her for booking the band this week. Kim rules!

Silly

Thank you worst little listeners.

Life is short and we love you.

Johnny Bailey on guitar and lead vox, Adam Landis (also from Greg Gilmore and the Fever Dreams) on keys and vox, Jake Cactus (also from the punk band Heterophobia) keeping the beat, and Bailey’s musical life mate Jesse Gaddis on bass.

Rigorous Proof

From middle school roots to becoming the Madorians when we first met them, to over a decade as Rigorous Proof, these psychedelic garage rockers tear it up with experience, precision and passion. Not to mention they’re all cool.

Cactus
Jesse Gaddis

Their songs have grown and matured from a rougher aggressive pop style to a soaring broad cinematic sound. Great songs with hooks, intellect, and harmony. They’d be great with old sixties acts like the Zombies, or with modern acts like the Black Keys or Muse, Johnnys favorite band. The proof is in their sonic ear pudding.

Adam Landis

We ate it up. Besides their history, we talked about their future, including a new full album and subsequent tour.

Rock and roll is alive and well in Reno. We got the proof! Catch them at the Cypress music hall this Friday with Red Leather, sure to be a good trip.

Johnny Bailey

We’re grateful for our longtime friends hanging out with us on the show this week and we appreciate you listening. Thanks buddies! Life is short and we love you!

This week we have half, or possibly two fifth’s, of Triflin’ Bitches: The mild-mannered Scott Sherwood on bass and local lunatic Logan Bongiovani on guitar and vocals. Unfortunately, the normally rock-solid drummer, Scott Hauder, couldn’t make it at the last minute (Nick adds some shakers and beatbox here and there). Also absent from the proceedings are the fingers and voices of John Frederick, the keyboardist. John has taken a gig in Hawaii and will be reuniting with the Bitches in half a year (for some half-naked, bad-decision fueled show, no doubt). In the meantime, the band will be shaking things up, having fun with new arrangements of their songs, and adding a female vocalist to the mix. Stay tuned for more on this developing story.

Logan gives us the low down on their new EP “Eu De Vistige” out now on bandcamp.  We have a fun quiz and we meet our new intern Percy! We also get some fully produced studio tracks!

Welcome back, Renophiles! This week’s guests are session musicians Jonathan Louis and Darion Jordan from The Band Cell, friends of the show! The Band Cell has been on a few times before, which you can check out here and here. However, THIS time is even more specialer as we check out Jonathan’s solo drummer rock opera experience, “Power. Passion. Drums!”, relased with the new year.

Due to the snow and icy roads, we decided to have the show over Zoom. It’s always more fun in person but whatcha gonna do? Safety first! (or third) We make the best of it online with two of the nicest rippers of rock, prog, and humor in the Reno-Tahoe area. Join us for the fun and a little insanity.

Happy New Year, friends and listeners! Welcome back!
We are so happy to have one of the hardest working bands out there kicking off Season 13! The honed and road tested Boss’ Daughter! Bossy D is Jamie Locks (drums), Danny Paul (bass), and Chris Fox (lead singer and guitar).
8 years deep in their prolific and seemingly endless adventures in punk rock, they’re recently signed onto a new label, SBAM RECORDS, released a new 7″ “Okay/Photography,” and have a busy tour schedule planned for 2023. They’re on fire and ready to party all over the US, starting with a ten day west coast stint that kicked off a few days after recording this show!

We’ve had the pleasure of checking in on this punk power trio since their inception. As well as with their various other projects, especially Chris (who’s been in like 69 bands I believe). They’re still fast, furious, deep, and hilarious.

They are having a record release show at 40 Mile Saloon February 18th for the new album “Bouts With Bummers” which drops February 10th. We hear a bunch of songs from said record and a song called Bouts With Bummers that’s not on the album of the same name. You’ll just have to listen for why that is.
It was a high energy kick in the pants this week, that’s for sure.

Join us for our live 500th Episode celebration at Cypress music hall on Saturday January 28th 7pm with DJ StaxOfWax , Heterophobia and Elephant Rifle! See the event page on Facebook.
Life is short and we love you. It’s good to be back!

Some people just don’t know when to stay down. As we wrap up Season 12, we thought we’d close out with a round-up of our most frequent regular guests. At the suggestion of Josiah Knight, this week’s episode is exclusively guests who have been on the show at least five times in the last 12 years. In addition to our favorite murderhobo, Josiah, we are joined by Mark Earnest (Kanawha, Manchild), Jen Scaffidi (Blunderbusst, Wizard Colors), Dan Steinmetz (Thee Saturday Knights, Manchild), Spike McGuire (Loud As Folk), and Greg GIlmore (Greg Gilmore and the Fever Dreams, Loud As Folk). There’s even a track from Johnny Harpo, who couldn’t make it – but that’s exclusive to our Patreon subscribers, as you’ll come to find out. Repeatedly.

This show is a lot of fun – a lot of jokes and reminiscing and a live track from Greg Gilmore opens the whole thing. Its a real treat to call all of these wonderful humans and noted musicians our friends, and to get a chance to sit down and talk with them like this.

Lots of great shows happening this weekend, and you’ll have to listen to hear our picks, but the one you should care about is the one that happens hours after this is published – The Holiday Hammering at The Cellar at Alturas. Brought to you by the Rock Solid Pressure Show, the evening’s entertainment includes performances from A Wormhole Could Kill Us All, One Ton Dually, FloodFireDeathDrought, and Manchild. IT’s aso a celebration for Nick and The Rev’s birthdays! So come through if you’re out in Reno tonight.

Welcome back, O Constant Listener! Its always a good time with Todd Ballowe in the studio and we hope you enjoy this episode. We didn’t realize just how ling it has been since he’s been on the show, so there was a lot of catching up to do, on and off mic.

Todd Ballowe

Aside from being a little isolated like everyone else since 2020, Todd has been through some legit travails, battling it all with a smile. Fires, ailments, and being old dads; the show gets a little “old man shouts at cloud” heavy, but bear with us – we are only in the early stages of senility. Todd has also been busy opening Yonder Aerials and Dance in the North Valleys with his lovely partner, Jole .

Weekend One at Alturas on the Cellar Stage

We also devote a good chunk of the show to talking about Marianarchy XVIII: A Benefit for Andy Hernandez. The event will be over two weekends, Oct 7-8 and 14-15, at Alturas and Elbow Room, respectively. Two weekends featuring 40+ of your favorite local acts, to benefit Andy Hernandez, noted Reno bassist with Los Pistoleros who was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident in the Spring of 2022. Andy has since recovered and regained the ability to walk and obviously is saddled with enormous medical bills. Come on out to one of the shows and throw some support. There will be some form of raffle as well.

We are adding a new element to Marianarchy – a Memorial where we can remember the names and faces of those we have lost over the course of the past few years and the past two decades, such as Tom Plunkett and Kahele Dunn, who were not only dear friends to many of us at WLP and also Marianarchy beneficiaries, but also ardent supporters of Marianarchy every year they were able. We invite you to participate in this memorial with us, and add a photo, a name or a memento. It is planned to be a permanent fixture at Marianarchy, going forward, a living testament to our community and those we’ve been lucky enough to spend time with.

Hope to see you at the show – Todd goes up early on Day two at Alturas.

And we’re back! (once again…) Shifting directly into high gear, we have most of a great, high-energy band on this week. 3/4 of Last One Down was able to join us in the studio and play some tracks from their latest release, “Failing Dreams.” If you like 90s punk; if you like pop punk; if you like skate punk, you’re going to dig their sound.

Andy

Last One Down has been around for a couple of years, but have been making some waves for themselves in 2022. They are ‘of an age’ of many of the fans and hosts of the show and their music reflects that – nostalgic and new at the same time. The Rev felt transported, back to the 90s when life was irresponsible and credit scores were a thing other people worried about. For the regular listeners of the show – these guys came ready to play (and I don’t think they’re listeners, just naturally a little twisted). We also have a segment where we try some Taco Truck flavored jelly beans – this is peak fake radio stuff!

Josh

Lost of shows on the calendar to promote this week: First up, we want to make sure everyone knows about the D.R.I. 40th anniversary tour at the Elbow Room on October 25. Get your tickets now and lets all show up for some great fucking punk rock. This weekend though our pick is One Ton Dually with Heterophobia and Deaf Animals over at the Cellar Stage on Friday Night. The very next night, check out an exclusive engagement at the Cellar Stage with Voted Best Band & Guests (fuckin love those guys). …Honestly, it’s late and we promoted a bunch of shows at the end of this episode, so … listen for yourself (and we’ll post links as we get closer to everything, like Marianarchy and The Flea.)

As summer winds down, our guests this week are still heating things up with their sexy, sexy music. Kat Heart’s Fresh Hot Mess brings it good. A foursome congealed out of dreams and desire, they keep a busy schedule in different configurations. (This sounds sexual, but it totally is not)

Mess

This is a sexy sexy band, though – and I mean the music AND the people. We have a great time talking with them, talking shit about booking shows, how they all met and how The Saxman helped put this together. They are a rhythm and rock band, so find someone you want to grind on and put it in your ear.

Thanks for listening
