This week we discuss special needs classrooms and fundraising for them by rocking out.

WHAT: A benefit to raise funds for special needs classrooms, caregivers, teachers, and other angel helpers.

WHEN: 5/30/26 Doors @ 4:30 / Entertainment starts @ 5pm

WHERE: Shims Tavern! 125 W 3rd St RENO (21+ Event)

HOW: Bands, friends, and family are getting together to put on a show to benefit the special needs community. We want to support this community in creative and artsy ways. Nick and Mikie have a daughter with Autism who attends a special education classroom in Reno. She has an excellent teacher and aids who assist in her classroom. We want to encourage donating funds to Washoe County (Strategies) classrooms, with no strings, no questions asked. This is to help teachers purchase whatever they feel is needed in the classrooms. The goal is to send $500 to 3+ classrooms, as well as collect and raise funds for quality self-care gift cards (hair-cuts, massages, mani-pedi, spa day) to give to caregivers, teachers, and other angel helpers. We want to say thank you and help prevent burnout! We are in this together and appreciate all who help our special kids!

HOW YOU CAN HELP: We are looking for RAFFLE donations of any kind. We are asking for self-care gift certificate ideas (hair-cuts, massages, mani-pedi, spa day). Do you know of a place that may donate? Can you tell us or ask them? We are putting together a team of friends who want to volunteer their time to ask for raffle and gift certificates. We would love to team up!

Do you know of a caregivers, teachers, or another helper that deserves a thank you? Please let us know, we are compiling a list of folks we want to gift these items to.

his week our usual host Nick takes the night off of hosting duties to play drums in Nacho Bitch, a brand new duo band from the mind of bassist and Nicks better half, Mikie Ramirez. 

Mikie had a long lasting writing spurt last year and is in a new band, Nosebone, with her bandmates Penny and Scaught (formerly The Shames). She brought a bunch of songs to them, and with quite a few songs left over and wanting to play together with her boo, Nacho Bitch was born. 

We get three rad, upbeat songs about their daughter, current events and time travel! Mikie gives us the lowdown on her benefit rock show for special needs classrooms, Friends of P, coming up May 30th at Shims. Listen for details on that and some other upcoming shows.

OMG you guys. Holy guacamole batman… it’s the return of the band formerly known as The Shames!! That’s right folks Scaught (also bass player for Elephant Rifle) on drums, Penny on guitar and vocals and Mikie on bass and vocals live at the Dogwater studios! With their new music and new band NOSEBONE !

We hear several brand spanking new songs and one blast from the past. 

The band gives us the skinny on what lead to the new direction and the podcasts history with the ladies from The Shames a beloved Reno punk band. 

It was great to catch up with a full house of hosts (including Thee Reverend Rory Dowd!) and guests. Ricks sister Gina is a big WLP fan and was with us live in studio to experience an episode being created. She picked a great week to do so. The Shames were the first music played on the podcast way back on episode two, so this our 603rd really felt full circle. 

We skip the quiz in favor of music and get some upcoming shows in Reno and where you can catch NOSEBONE playing their first show in October. They are newly on Instagram @nosebonereno .

We had a blast and are completely stoked for this power trio of rockers and the future of the mighty NOSEBONE.
