S15E37: NIGHTBRAIN-It’s Not Cute Anymore -or- The Booty & The Brain
This week we had the pleasure of finally meeting the Quincy, California band NIGHTBRAIN. We first heard of this killer band a few months ago when we interviewed It’s Not Cute Anymore, also from nearby Northern California, then again when The Sand Gators were on, a band Alex, NIGHTBRAIN’s keyboard player also plays in.
The buildup was genuinely deserved.
With vocalist Suzanne’s beautiful voice, Alex’s brilliant keys, Nathan’s gorgeous guitar, Emanuel’s tight grooves on drums, and Chris masterfully thumping the bass, NIGHTBRAIN has a big, full, funky, jazzy, and sexy 70’s retro sound.
Not only are they tight as musicians but they’re also lifelong high school friends, two sets of brothers, who have played music most of their lives. Suzanne from neighboring Westwood Ca. joined the brothers a couple years back, bringing her years of vocal training, including opera, to the band.
They’re young, highly skilled players offering new music with a throwback lounge vibe. Emanuel says it’s music for the booty and the brain. Truth.
We absolutely loved having them join us at Dogwater Studios.
