Anchors for Airplanes – Stacks of Songs – S5 E33

Nonsense or genius?
Worst Little Podcast – S5 E33 – Download Link
Welp, winter is finally here people – lots of snow on the ground and a chill in the air. Big part of why we didn’t have an episode last week – sorry for the interruption in your steady Reno entertainment feed. But we’ve got you’r back this week – Anchors for Airplanes, a Reno hard rock band, dropped by with a set of polished songs to impress us with. Anchors for Airplanes is Brandon Bianco (vocals), Travis Ambrose (bass), Cody Walker (guitar), John Wooten (drums); they’re a bunch of local boys who just like playing really really tight and perfected original music.
Anchors for Airplanes have been playing around Reno for a few years, building up a pretty decent following for their music. This is probably the most radio-ready and professional bands we’ve ever worked with – it was a little surreal, to tell you the truth. Typically Reno entertainment tends to be a little more … sloshed(?), but these guys waited so they could give us a great set. As usual, the show wasn’t exactly what they expected.
You’ll be able to experience Anchors for Airplanes yourself at an upcoming show at PB&J’s, a great new music venue on 4th street (seriously, east 4th street is awesome these days, you should check out some of the great Reno entertainment, food and art happening over there). On December 12th you’ll be able to catch them over there with 36 Crazyfists, Enter the Yeti and Limbs of the Arbitrator.
So, we won’t be doing the show next week – errybody’s too busy with Thanksgiving and family and crap to do the show. HOWEVER, Marianarchy – A benefit for Eva Yellowleaf is coming up soon, so please stay tuned after the break to hear more about the show! Eva’s family to all of us around the Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor, so we really want to get the whole clan out.
Thanks for listening!
This show dedicated to Mike Maier who was with us in the very beginning, before Dogwater was a Studio and just an idea. Happy trails, Mike. We’ll miss ye.
Last to Leave – Still Hanging On – S5 E32
And away we go!
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E32 – Download Link
Despite playing actively in Reno the entire time we have not been broadcasting, Last to Leave is a whole new side of the scene that the podcast has missed. Skye Evans and Ken Shepherd join us and play some jaw-droppingly awesome music this week. The music is complex and full-bodied, toe-tapping and fun; the lyrics are achingly depressing – even on the ‘happy’ songs. Skye Evans (founder of the band and literally the last to leave Last to Leave) is graduating shortly and will be leaving Reno for northern climes. Bittersweet it is, to see him go, but we wish him well in the future!
Ken Shepherd on the other hand can’t get out of Reno if he tried. Shepard is currently still the bassist for The Whitebulbs and also Busking by Moonlight, a fantastic new indie blues act that you’ll be able to catch at the upcoming OffBeat Festival – this very weekend! You’ll be able to catch Last to Leave’s FINAL PERFORMANCE (that may or may not be true) at the Holland Project on November 17th.
We are all really excited about the OffBeat Festival. If you haven’t heard by now, click the link and listen on the show – this event will be insanely awesome. In order to make it so, legendary Phat Couch will be playing at Jub Jub’s on Friday night, along with Nick Ramirez, Forrest Day, Plastic Caves and Los Pistoleros! And all of this madness will be hosted by the Rev! And that’s just ONE SHOW on ONE NIGHT! This is a 4-day festival with 90+ bands in 13+ venues. We are lucky enough to have Steve Foht, singer for Phat Couch and longtime friend of Nicky visit us on the show. Though currently thriving in Peru, IN as the owner of Boondocks Food & Spirits, Fot was once one of the giants of the Reno music scene, way back in the nineteen-nineties! It’s a pleasure to have him on and will be great to rock out this weekend.
Anyway, get the details in the link or on the show. I’ll see you there.
Thanks for Listening.
Resistance – Young Rippers – S5 E31

It’s a little wacky this week, all over.
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E31 – Download link
The metal machinists, Resistance, are in the studio this week. Young dudes with a heavy sound that truly turns some of us around on this whole metal thing. Kenner Casteel-Snider (Vocals), Levi Bower (Drums), Cody Sprague (Guitar), Eric Terry (Guitar) and Elijah Frandsen (Bass) are the crew of Resistance. They’ve been playing with a lot of great acts in town over the last couple of years and are building a solid following. They also like dick jokes. and gay jokes. Lots and lots of dick up in here this week.
We take a call at the top of the show to chat with Alon Burton of our favorite local boys in the big city heroes, Merkin! Merkin is coming back to Reno fot a two night limited engagement during the OffBeat Festival, happening all over Reno Nov 5-8. This is an amazing event with 13 venues and dozens of acts, local and regional. Your favorite local bands and performers will be out in force rocking hard until late late night. If you haven’t already purchased your all-access wristbands, you will want to ASAP. You really don’t want to miss it.
It’s going to be an exciting Halloween weekend in Reno this year. Lots of great shows all weekend! Have fun and don’t do anything we wouldn’t…. nevermind, scratch that. Have fun!
And thanks for Listening!
KARMA and Shawarmageddon – KARMAgeddon? – S5 E30

Food and friends!
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E30 – Download Link
Long lost compatriots and great friends, KARMA, who have returned from their long US tour, are back in with us. They crashed the studio recently and hung out, but this time, we are treated to tons of new music! I’m really blown away by the amount of talent that we trick are lucky enough to have on the show even after 5 years. Grab her headphones tight, because they are on fire these days.
Because we are always branching and evolving and changing, we have another food guest on this week – and not one but THREE! Tony, Justin and Wolfgang of Shawarmageddon, a Mediterranean food window in the old Pneumatic Diner location. Shawarmageddon’s motto is “Eat and Destroy” and every shawarma is cook with the love of heavy metal. Good food, good folks, they came to play and have one of the more riotous quizzes on record.
Once again, it’s the end of the post and I’m out of things to say. What can I say, it’s been a loooong day. Check out open mic with Reverend Rory this week and don’t forget to get your advance all-access passes to the Off Beat Festival, Nov. 5-8, all over Reno.
Georgia Maestro and Mike Gully – All Over the Place – S5 E29

Dedicated, with love, light and joy, to the unconquerable spirit that is Judith “Lady” Hull.
The Worst Little Podcast – 2015 10 12 – Season 5 Episode 29 – Download Link
It’s always great to have good friends in the studio! This week is chock full of old friends and good times. First, however, we take a moment to talk about our good friend and icon of the Reno theater community: Lady. Judith “Lady” Hull has been a huge influence on the Reno theater and art community over the past few decades. Despite a strong spirit and support team, she had been in failing health for most of this year and as she enters her next evolution, we send with her our love and affection. She passed over her rainbow bridge on the evening of October 14, 2015. We love you, Lady.
But, as a Reno theater guru, Lady would understand that the show must go on, which is why it is my incredible joy to welcome back onto the show, Season One guest, Georgia Maestro. Many long-time Reno music aficionados will remember Georgia from her solo work as well as her well-received band, Pushbox. When last we spoke to her, Georgia was heading out to cut the world’s teeth on her; now she’s back with new stories, experiences and songs. Her powerful, sultry voice is better than ever. It was really really good for my soul to hear her sing again. We all look forward to seeing more of Georgia in the coming months.
Also joining us in studio is Chef Mike Gully. Mike is both the chef at Cafe DeLuxe on Wells Avenue and also an organizer for the Washoe County supporters of Bernie Sanders. Mike is also bucking for an on air job and does a great job of taking over all of the Rev’s segues. A man with the gift of gab, Gully is entertaining as he doles forth his opinions on the current Reno food scene and the state of politics currently. This episode definitely has some zigs and zags, from food to politics and more.
There’s lots of events this weekend – we recap them at the end – too many to list now, but rest assured that your hosts are involved with many of them.
THanks for listening!
Thünderhead – Keep Jerkin’ Around – S5 E28

Wake up and smell the hot metal!
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E28 – Download Link
Thünderhead comes in and slays the studio this week. Damn! Rader Hendrix, Layne Roberts and Carlos Pintor swagger in with their long hair and cool t-shirts and tattoos and absolutely lived up to the hype. “Thrash Motorhead” is about the best I can come up with to describe it in a nutshell. Intense and wailing and full tilt, Thünderhead was a blast in the face, even just here in the studio. They’ve got a lot of shows coming up in the next few months, so really really really get up and check them out.
At the top of the show we also take a call with Kate Atak, one of the stars of “Clown Bar“, a play by Adam Szymkowicz, and Vaude Villian’s latest production at Good Luck MacBeth. The interview with Kate is lots of fun – including a bit of a sneak teaser from the show – and I could talk to her for hours about theater and shows in Reno. She plays PoPo, a clown with… impulse control issues, we’ll say. But that’s not what’s important here; what’s important is “Clown Bar”. Holy shitballs! Let me say that again: HOLY SHITBALLS! While some people may find clowns disturbing (like my girlfriend who accompanied me), I have always had a love for carnivals and circuses and clowns. Chalk it up to “Pink Elephants on Parade”, whatever.
“Clown Bar” is a unique look at the back alley tents inhabited by the lowest common denominator of clown. The Vaude Villian production is accompanied by a wholesome and charming balloon sculpture opening act with John Wade, a brief film and other interactive sideshow acts that really set the tone and mood for the next hour of your life. Ryan Kelly, leads as Happy, an ex-clown turned cop, investigating his brother’s whereabouts. He, Atak, and others (spoilers!) lend memorable performances to Ashley Marie James’ directorial debut.
The show is a knockout; cheap laughs at tragic jokes abound in this gritty comedy. The entire cast and theater came together, creating a not-so-Big top atmosphere that fully draws the audience into the show. This Vaude Villian cast was a well-oiled, drunken, lampooning machine. I was thoroughly devilishly delighted and tickled throughout the whole show; even my girlfriend went from mildly terrified to simply unnerved truly enjoyed the show and the performances of the night.
Like “Evil Dead: The Musical” last year, “Clown bar” is shaping up to be a sellout run. The show is playing weekends throughout the end of October, with a final show on Halloween night. Get yourself some tickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/1117547.

Idol Smasher – Micro Suede – S5 E27

[un-witty exclamation thing here]
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E27 – Download Link
Warning: This episode is jam packed full of awesome. First, our guest – Idol Smasher, a Reno metal band that includes a member of the Dogwater family. Nate Sanders, Assistant Engineer on extended hiatus, is the guitarist for this wicked ripper of a band; he brings with him, his drummer, Tyrus Legg, and lead screech owl, John Bigby. John brings with him, his lovely, but mute, girlfriend Nessie – another Worst Little Podcast first! Never in five seasons has a guest brought a S.O. into the studio and made out with them throughout the entire episode, but here on Episode 201, we bring it to you. Like seriously, with tongue, and slurping and full-nipple.I do apologize in advance. Really, it’s great.
They did not, however, bring a bass player. His name was Alec or Axl or Alix or something metal-y. He fails. He’s a bass player and missed the show. I don’t care if he was rescuing puppies. But it’s cool. The rest of the group was cool as hell. Idol Smasher has a lot of shows coming up in the near future; we suggest you check them out if you are of the metal persuasion.
We didn’t even have time to ask around the guys what they did for the weekend! There was so much going on with the band and some surprise guests…
“Surprise guests?” you ask? That’s right! Fresh off the road after 10 months and 20,000 miles, KARMA has returned to Reno! Greg Gilmore, Michelle Belle and Carter Stellon all stopped by the studios to surprise Dogwater Dick in the afternoon and he just set up a shit-load of microphones so everyone could play. It was really really good to see our old friends again. We didn’t get into it too much with them this week, so as not to disrespect the actual guest, Idol Smasher, but they are booked for an upcoming episode, so please stay tuned!
We didn’t get into it too much with them this week, so as not to disrespect the actual guest, Idol Smasher, but they are booked for an upcoming episode, so please stay tuned!
You can welcome KARMA back to town at their big big homecoming show next weekend, Oct 17th at Singer Social Club.
Thanks for Listening!

Worst Little Podcast – Episode 200 – S5 E26

Yes, we’ve really been doing this that long. Mostly unpaid.
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E26 – Download Link
Here it is, for your enjoyment – a clip show! Featuring much of the cast of The Worst Little Podcast, past and present, in the last 200 episodes and some repeat offenders drinking copious amounts of beer and whiskey! In studio we have, your hosts, Thee Reverend Rory Dowd, Mr. Nick Ramirez, Dogwater Dick and Josh Martin, along with our small horde of guests that include Reno musicians and friends of the show: Spencer Kilpatrick, Mikie Haley, Felix Danger, Myke Read, Rashidul Kader, Zac Curtis, Evan Humphries and a Mystery Guest!
There’s clips from shows going back to the first season and as recently as this 5th one. There are … a lot. We made Rick play jukebox. He’s the only one who wasn’t inebriated and could take notes. There’s a lot of talking and conversation stepping, some rudeness, some love, you take the good, you take the bad, and there you have – AH! Who’s kidding, there’s nothing good about this show. Except the music. Always the Reno music.
We’d like to thank all of our friends, guests and sponsors over the years – You guys are great and we would not be doing this without you.
Thanks for listening!
John and John – It’s Like Coffee – S5 E25

It’s an acquired taste!
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E25 – Season 5 Episode 25
As the 199th episode of The Worst Little Podcast in the World, this show marks the end of a chapter, and so! we return to the beginning. New half-assed and not very well planned ideas are the name of the game! Listen in for Nick’s explanation partway through the show. See if you can spot it! Our guests this week are John and John, a They Might Be Giants cover band from Reno NV that has played exactly one show prior to this recording.
John and John is a labor of love (mostly your ears’ labor and their love of torture) brought to you by John Pat (Pat Rhea) and John Rory (Thee Reverend Rory Dowd). As a duo they have delighted at least a dozen people this year, not including the cast of this show. It’s a side project they haven’t been actually working on for very long at all, but what they lack in experience they make up for in sheer A-for-effort…ness.
You can catch John and John next at the Great Basin Geeks Con (GBGCon) at Reno Town Mall this October! It will be very exciting and far more practiced. And you should really listen to the whole show this time, especially the very very end card. Chekkit out. Rory’s performance on bass is uh-mazing.
Please join us next week for our 200th episode. Yes, seriously – don’t read me with that look on your face. We will be having a long overdue true shit-show – lots of guests and no scheduled music. We gonna have a (clip show) partay! Along with playing some of our favorite songs from over the last 5 seasons, we will also be joined by current and past cast members and Reno low-lifes luminaries, including Felix Polanski, Spencer Kilpatrick, Jeff Done, Nate Sanders, Jenny PezDeSpencer, Andy86 and more! Who knows what fun will be had? Who knows how many shots there will be? Who knows if it will even be listenable?
Thanks for listening! (Like forreals this time.)
Ken McKim and Spike McGuire – It’s Time You Learned About Pain – S5 E24

“Life is pain, highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.” – The Dread Pirate Roberts
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E24
It’s that frantic time of year in Reno, when all the summer festivals are packed in on top of one another, all the Burners return home from their sojourn on The Playa and the weather goes back to being schizophrenic. I stay home a lot.But that just gives me more time to catch up on all the old podcasts as we roll up into EPISODE 200 in just a few weeks! We are really stoked that we’ve been around this long and we get all the support we do from you unresponsive listeners. I love you.
This week on the show we are joined by Ken McKim, a Reno-area Chronic Illness Advocate and long-time friend of Dogwater Dick. Ken’s goal as an advocate is to help non-sufferers understand the kind of long term pain and discomfort that chronic illness patients routinely, even daily, go through. Many of these pain symptoms are brushed off or downplayed by people who don’t have these conditions with a “If I can’t see it, it’s not real,” attitude. These are documented and real conditions that are not ‘just in their heads’ that include ailments like: Crohn’s Disease, Lupus, Depression, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), Fibromyalgia and more.
In order to bring understanding, to the public, to friends, to politicians and even spouses, Ken McKim has made a few series of videos, creating analogies and comparisons in real terms the average idiot, like myself layperson can understand. It’s a noble and daunting undertaking, but if you are interested in finding out more about Ken Mckim’s work, please visit his website at www.dontpunishpain.com where his 17-video series is available for free. He is also the creator of the 4-part series, “Dear Healthy People,” available on YouTube.
It’s a pretty heavy subject, so that’s why we also brought back by popular demand (mostly his)….
…the awesome Spike McGuire! Our last episode with Spike had some issues and never was properly released, so he’s back again with another set of toe tappers. Spike McGuire is a folk/Americana singer/songwriter (FASS) from Reno NV and frontman for Six Mile Station. Spike is still killing it all over the West Coast, but never fails to be back in Reno for the Loud As Folk, a long running Reno music series held on the First Thursday of every month. It’s good to have Spike in here this week. He’s always a treat and DAMN! can he strum on a guitar.
Thanks for Listening!
