Cowabunga, dudes!

Reno punk rockers will never die! They just get older and have more brittle bones! Speaking of which: we are happy to welcome Randall “The Wolf” Wolf, Morgan “Gordo” Miller, Craig “Crag” Allan, Paddy “Ninja Rick” Landes, and Sasha Mereu of Me Time, a Reno NV punk rock band, to the show today. These guys are loud, fast, sloppy, old, and a buncha drunks! Well, I assume they are, because, as you may be aware, Reverend Rory is not at the podcasts currently. But he did catch them at Shea’s a few weeks ago and had a blast watching them play. (Frankly, they were a blast, while the Ataris were ho-hum. I mean really – Birkenstocks? If you were at the show, you know.)

I am excited and pleased to announce the the podcast will be returning to a weekly format!!!! Our experiment failed – you like us far better if we post every week! Dogwater Dick has been so very lonely on Mondays without us, too, so here we are. You may hear a little less of Reverend Rory as he pursues some of his other passions (like Silence! the Musical – a muscal parody of Silence of the Lambs that opens Sept 30 at Good Luck Macbeth), but that means we may be giving more mic time to Mr. Baker, Chewie, Stryse and maybe even Intern X (but probably not).

Miss Mallory

This week, we bring you the awesomeness of Miss Mallor Mishler, good friend of the show and prolific Reno artist and musician. Mallory is also the mind behind the Reno Tarot Project, which may be finished sometime this century, if we all hold our breath. Mallory is also a fantastic guitar player and singer – being one of Reverend Rory’s own inspirations to pick up the axe. She shares some songs with us today!

Mallory also talks a lot about Burning Man this week. You have been warned.

HEY! WOOD!

The Worst Little Podcast – S6 E19

They are back and in perfect form – ladies and gentlemen, our good friends, Sit Kitty Sit!! Mike Thompson and Kat Downs are back in the studio for their yearly pilgrimage to Dogwater Studios – and this year, it was just for fun! They literally came to Reno to be on our podcast and play the most amazing songs for us to share with you! That not only includes the new track “Creeping”, but also a completely new, unrecorded track!!! (SKS fans should be changing their underwear right about now….twice)

Kat ‘Flowers Make Me Happy’ Downs

The show is kind of a mess – but its always a good mess with SKS. The first 40 minutes are literally just hanging out with them and saying hello. Jump ahead if you want – they then play a block of 4(?) songs, ripping into us with the opening songs of their current set. FUCK! They’re so good! Sit Kitty Sit is jut moments (or weeks) away from heading back out to the East Coast to do an end of summer tour in Mike’s homeland. It’s a little ‘open ended’ of a tour, so if you know of a venue that needs them in the NE US, just hit them up on Facebook the night before you want them there. I’m sure it’ll be no problem.

The most interesting things happen to these folks. It’s not just cause they know how to find the coolest things; they create an atmosphere for cool things to happen to them. We all should be a little more like Sit Kitty Sit. Drink the Kool-Aid.

And thanks for Listening.

Hey kids!

Worst Little Podcast – S6 E18

Todd Ballowe, noted Reno musician, performer and bon vivant, comes by the studios this week, bringing the ever lovely Jole Rector along as well. I’m sure it was swell, but Reverend Rory was not in attendance. Intern X only took two pictures – FAIL!. Nick is playing at Pignic tonight, Thursday 8/4/16 with Loud as Folk. Reverend Rory has Foxy First Friday with Delani White. Go see some stuff.

Well shut the front door!

The Worst Little Podcast 2016 07 11

It’s a fantastic podcast straight out of the Dogwater Studios – sans The Reverend! The Fellow Knees breeze through the studio before they leave Reno on a “tour”, couch surfing across the Pacific Northwest in their bid for world domination. The Fellow Knees are Lex White and Zach Ostgaard, a home-free folk/Americana/bluegrass duo. While they might seem a train-wreck, these boys sure have the goods.

Lex White laughing over his guitar with a full red beard

Lex White

The Fellow Knees willed themselves into existence sometime in the very recent past, evolving out of the Reno underbelly of open mics and riverside jam-sessions. Their quest is murky; their purpose, unclear; but they are golden hearted and undaunted. And really – some fine fine musicianship right here, both with the instruments and the voices. This episode is a real treat.

Rick Baker, closeup of his bald head, heavily photoshopped

The enigmatic, Mr. Baker

Also, in the studio, we have WLP’s own Rick “Mr. Baker” Baker. Mr. Baker was a contestent/featured artist at the first annual Reno Chalk Art Festival. He made pretty things and hurt his body for art. Listen to the full story on the show!

Anyway, catch you in three weeks with Sit Kitty Sit!

Happy ‘Merica Time!

The Worst Little Podcast – S6 E16

WARNING: Do not operate heavy machinery or operate a motor vehicle whilst listening to the songs on this podcast.

We are pleased to welcome Hannah Etchison and Cody Thomas of Low La La back onto the podcast this week. Our favorite sweet sweet songbirds came back on right before the last tour of their single lives! You can catch their mini-tour kickoff show up in Virginia City this Saturday at The Canvas Cafe. They are just going out for a bit for the summer before coming back home to focus on more domestic things.

Cody Thomas

If you haven’t caught them before, Low La La is a singer-songwriter duo from Reno NV specializing in original tunes for the stringed instruments and simple percussion. Also whistling even. They write some terribly beautiful music together with thoughtful, often personal, lyrics. The two of them, Hannah and Cody, are also a blast personally and especially indulgent of their friends, as you will hear on the show.

Go see their show. Cody is a potter and will have many of his wares for sale at the event. Go like them on Facebook. These two are a great local talent. Support that shit.

The Worst Little Podcast – S6 E14

Hope you didn’t miss us too much over the break – but we missed you! While we were out, we found some troublesome buskers hanging around and decided to give them a shot: Athena McIntyre and the Lost Boys walked into the studio this week and owned it, like they been here all along.

Athena McIntyre, Eli Paxton and Aaron Long make up this breathtaking trio. They are gearing up for a lengthy tour of the Southwest soon, but you can catch them this weekend all around Reno and Carson. Gotta listen to the show to get the deets!

This week, we roll up our slee, stick some straw in our teeth and hold on tight for a humdinger of a good time … a really filthy, filthy humdinger. Dusty Miles, Rico, Chris and Danny from Dusty Miles and the Cryin’ Shame stop in to give us some pointers about the finer things of country. Not that crap on the radio, but true American music.

We also have the pleasure of having Jamie Crush, Reno based artist and model, who is organising “Solitude – A Benefit for My Journey Home”. My Journey Home is an organization that seeks to help veterans and former inmates re-integrate with society in any number of ways.  The event will be on June 10th at the Isles Teahouse in Midtown.

Lastly, we are changing format to two shows a month, instead of weekly. Sorry, loyal listeners, but this is a chance for us to spend more time on shows, giving you a better product. Thank you for understanding.

It’s not angry women….

The Worst Little Podcast – S6 E12

In the ceaseless ebb and flow of the creation and destruction cycle of Reno bands, you sometimes get something intriguing and unique. Other times, you’re left with music like Donner and the Cannibals, a Reno punk/folk trio. Donner and the Cannibals is comprised of Craig Schrader, Rachel Barr and Aaron Foelsh, all previous guests of the show in other bands.

Craig Schrader, guitar and vocals

Rick calls it “bitchrock” but Nick and the Rev know protest punk when we hear it. Good stuff – pretty and angry.

Aaron Foelsh

Please don’t forget to join us at Marianarchy XII this weekend! Friday and Saturday, Nick and Reverend Rory will be hosting the 30+ band event as a benefit for Kula Dunn, good friend of the community and ECV, who had his legs broken in a hit and run incident last year. Help us raise him some walking money. As usual, there will be a silent auction and raffle..
