Thankfully we’re not burning and we’re not flooding! Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the recent natural disasters. We love you. This week we’re joined by JUST Rory and Rick because they told me not to come in. It’s okay because I really *was* scissoring the drummer from SWIGS. You guys were all spot on. ANYWAY! Y’all are in for some great instrumental surf punk, some talk about old naked Satanists, and jokes about me (Kadillac Kim, in case you’re not following along) hooking up with our podcast guests! We even have new interns to make fun of! Don’t worry guys, you too can be like me with enough ambition and a vagina… oh wait. As fun as it is to talk about incest and Satanism, we actually have a band here, so let’s get into some music.
Riptide Bandits have been around for a “really long time”, according to band members. They are so legendary they don’t even need to know when they formed. It is as if they always existed. They might be vampires.

Nick and Rory, along with band-mates Spike and Jackson are here as One Ton Dually, and they’re ready with like six songs, so hold onto your tits, dear listeners. But enough about us, let’s talk about the BAND. One Ton Dually is a rock and roll band from Reno, NV, singing songs about fast drinking and hard wimmin (yeah, they made that a word). The band describes themselves as a 4-speed good time transmission with top of the line suspension and a powerful engine under the hood. I’d take that for a ride, and you should too.

Hello and welcome to this weeks episode of the Worst Little Podcast, broadcast from high above the city of Reno fucking Nevada!
Nick, Chewy, Rick and myself, Kadillac Kim, are here to bring you this week’s podcast! Regretfully (for him), the Reverend Rory Dowd is not around this week, but we get plenty of shots in at his expense! This week, as always, we have something really special for our listeners. We have not one, but TWO talented guests in the studio for your listening pleasure. And let me tell you, we talked about pleasure (*winknod*). But really, we have at least one and a half freaks in the room tonight. We’re talking about rope bondage, secret middle names, and how I got the name Kadillac Kim. Spoilers, it was in the parking lot of the Bunny Ranch when I was cornered by strippers in the bathroom of a double wide trailer. So that’s a thing… ANYWAY! We get off on the right foot with Reno country/Americana darling, Gina Rose. Gina will leave you with goosebumps after her first song. Don’t go anywhere or you’ll regret not hearing everything she has to say and sing!
Gina Rose is a singer-songwriter based out of Reno, Nevada. She formed her first band three years ago and has been playing guitar and writing music since she was a youngster (8years old!!). She began her music career opening for punk bands in Reno basements. Despite being a folk singer she won audiences over, with fans telling her that she’s just as heavy as the punk bands she opened for. As Nick points out, though, punk is just outlaw rock & roll and Gina is outlaw country. Her music can be found on her Bandcamp page and she has a new album in the works. She has a show coming up in Virginia City, like her on Facebook to be notified when the event is posted. Do yourselves a favor and don’t miss it or any of her shows! Rolling Stone billed them as the best up and coming band at Austin City Limits and they have been compared to Lynard Skynyrd ,the Allman Brothers, and the Black Crowes. Especially relevant to current events is The Mountaintop, a play by American playwright Katori Hall. Hello and congrats to Famous Dave’s for being voted best Reno podcast! This week your second favorite and ONLY Worst Little Podcast has cooked up something really special for you. We have Skycats in the studio, FINALLY! Yours truly, Kadillac Kim, has been so excited to showcase them on the podcast that I have hardly been able to contain myself. To say that this duo is talented would be the understatement of the century. Or at least like the last few minutes. I’m very dramatic. Anyway, listen up to hear me fangirl all over them (it gets messy).
But first, something completely different! We have on the phone all the way from Texas, Jordan from Portland band Coastlands. They took a minute out of their busy tour schedule to talk to us about their upcoming show at the Saint (while shooting a music video, for fuck’s sake). We have a short interview and a song we’re previewing for you here in internet land. Coastlands is playing at the Saint Aug 26th with podcast veterans Moons Of Vega and Pink Awful. Listen up to get a taste of the shoegazey goodness. I’ll be sharing the video as soon as I have my hands on it, so keep an eye out for that and be sure to go to the show with us! Or at least me, you know I get around…
But back to Skycats! Skycats is a collaboration between Reno’s own Grace Hayes and Bazooka Zac. Both accomplished musicians in their own rights, together they make magic. Space magic. Or something. You heard Zac’s beats on last week’s podcast when we featured Redfield Clipper. Grace had a viral hit with the Reno Anthem, and while I’m certain she doesn’t want to be known for a silly diddy about her hometown, Reno is certainly grateful to be featured so positively by such a colossal local talent. So thanks, Grace!

Make a point to head to the Holland project to check out Between The Lyrics: A Celebration Of Hip Hop. This fundraiser for Holland Reno will feature artwork from over 40 different local artists, live music and delicious food provided by Nom Eats. This year’s theme is Socio-Political lyrics and each artist was given a random verse to work with. The show will be going down Saturday August 19th at 7pm. All artwork will be sold on a first come first serve basis, don’t miss out!!! All ages.

Closing out Reno art fest is a Grace Hayes solo set with a Skycats chaser. Right by the Space Whale from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by a show at Pignic at 7 p.m. Grace is celebrating her birthday by treating Reno to not one, but TWO shows! Thanks and Happy Birthday, Grace!

In other Reno news, there has been a humpback whale sighting in downtown Reno! Keep your eyes on City Plaza (where the Believe sculpture is located) to see the great whale erection. There will be a dedication ceremony and reception hosted by the city of Reno on August 8th. Yours truly will be there, along with the rest of the Space Whale crew and we would love to see you there.

This month Spike and the gang bring you national touring one man band, Acousta Noir, with supporting local acts Rachael McElhinney and Brendon Lund of Failure Machine and Silver. 8 p.m. Loud As Folk is donation based with this months proceeds going to Our Center.
Friday be sure to hit Jub Jub’s for the Voted Best Camp fundraiser show. Voted Best Camp provides shelter to starving musicians such as Chris Fox and Jonathan Daniel. For just a few dollars you can make sure your favorite local band members don’t die in the desert. Doors at 8 p.m.

SWIGS was formed in Reno this year by guitarist David Hadel, bassist Jonathan Daniel, and drummer Alise Corbin. Dave has been busy promoting Reno’s music scene with his own show, All Independent Reno Podcast, Jonathan is a veteran of the Reno music scene, playing for several years with Reno band Riptide Bandits, and Alise has been playing percussion in Reno and Carson since she was a kid. Together these Reno natives musical backgrounds led them to form one of Reno’s most high energy, fun new acts.

This week’s podcast welcomes Reno singer-songwriter and ukulele superstar Britt Straw, and local comedian Steve Van Pelt. We’ll get to Steve in a minute but first, let’s introduce you to Worst Little Podcast veteran Britt Straw! Britt was recently on the podcast with her band Seedless 10DenC and she’s here today solo to play us some original music and to talk to us about her important work with the U.S. Wolf Refuge. Britt has been an advocate and activist for Wolves for many years. She talked to us Monday about her passion for helping these powerful creatures and shed light on the problem of irresponsible wolf breeding and domestication.
Also on the show, we have Steve Van Pelt who hosts comedy open mic at Jimmy B’s Bar and Grill every Monday night! He’s here to talk to us about the many stand-up open night mics in Reno. There’s one almost every day of the week!

Steve began his comedy career in Good Luck Macbeth’s production, Clown Bar. He was bitten by the performance bug and has been doing standup ever since. Snowden’s larger than life, hope-filled presence is almost too big for the studio. In 1997, Trevor was preparing for a career in extreme snowboarding when he suffered a catastrophic spinal injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Trevor pulls no punches when talking about how his injury has affected his life. In addition to being an athlete, he is an inventor, video game designer, and rapper. Trevor’s full-length album, The Wheelchair Extraordinaire, is available on iTunes. Over the years Snowden became increasingly unhappy with the standard wheelchairs insurance provided so he invented his own custom wheelchair specifically designed to provide athletes to stay active. This wheelchair is now known as the Trevair. Trevor’s invention has helped him launch a new off- roading sport, wheelchair supercross. Snowden holds the world record for jumping 55ft over cars in a wheelchair and his stunts have been featured in Ripley’s Believe It or Not.

While you’re waiting for Down and Out to play another Reno show you should support your local music scene. As always there’s no shortage of live shows in Reno this weekend and lucky for you I’ve picked your best bets already so you don’t have to! Friday, June 16th see Viva Revenge. Prince Robot, and Slutsville share a stage at Jub Jub’s. Saturday is Reno’s biggest and best folk showcase, Loud As Folk (event link), with Six Mile Station and Cowboy Indian opening for Hellbound Glory (!!!). It’s at new bat time and a new bat venue (RIP Adam West), 2 p.m., June 17th at The Eddy. After Loud As Folk, take a short walk to The Basement for some indie jazz/rock with Raksha Paksha and Reno anthem singer Grace Hayes at 8 p.m. If you haven’t been to the Basement (in the old Post Office) this is the perfect chance to fix that!
