Welcome to the Worst Little Podcast in the World! This week we’re hella excited to bring you Reno surf punk band SWIGS! Listen up for some serious on-air flirtation and for songs about Mario Kart and Sandwiches! Let’s get into the music.
Alise Corbin, Jonathan Daniels, and Dave Hadel of SWIGS!
SWIGS was formed in Reno this year by guitarist David Hadel, bassist Jonathan Daniel, and drummer Alise Corbin. Dave has been busy promoting Reno’s music scene with his own show, All Independent Reno Podcast, Jonathan is a veteran of the Reno music scene, playing for several years with Reno band Riptide Bandits, and Alise has been playing percussion in Reno and Carson since she was a kid. Together these Reno natives musical backgrounds led them to form one of Reno’s most high energy, fun new acts.

SWIGS recently performed at the Saint, playing with Riptide Bandits and Basement Tapes. You can see their next show at Whiskey Dick’s Saloon in Tahoe in August. Late post this week. GIANT tech switchover at the Dogwater Studios (Rick bought a new computer and is still working out the bugs) but we persevered! AND WERE TRIUPMHANT in the end. (Rick’s always triumphant in the end) We got Actors Killed Lincoln on the show this week. Well, most of em anyway… the REAL musicians of the band, Kent Irwin, Matt Kaminsky, Dan Lyons, Jenkins and Alan Kaminsky all showed up. Zach Reese, however had more IMORTANT things to do (like a competitive grad school program or gay sex). But they also persevered and were triumphant!!!

Actors Killed Lincoln threw down and played their bad-ass music in a bad-ass way. We talked a little about their upcoming CD release, which is already available online here. The show’s a little short this week, due to time constraints, so after a few songs we got right into the Worst Quiz in the World. With all five of them, it takes a while!

Capturing the Inner Adam
Adam Springob joins us this week as a solo artist. He’s been stepping out from above Greg Gilmore’s very small shadow and showcasing his own singing and songwriting. It’s really good stuff. Unfortunately, you won’t hear it!!!! He brought a damn band with him this week. Actually – he brought TWO bands with him to make one giNORmous band called …. Something Or Other. Joining him in the studio are Michelle Belle (guitar – Scarlet Presence), Carter Stellon (drums – Scarlet Presence), Samantha Gates (fiddle), and Greg Gilmore (bass – Kanes NOT Merkin – lets be clear about this: Greg is not in The Merkins. He’s not that good.)

We had a really fun time with these guys – so much fun that Nick and The Rev had to take off before the show was done!!! They’re not even sure what happens yet!!! There is a lot of talking, yelling and chaos – more than usual – really. I’m supposed to take down notes and tease it out here, but I seem to have neglected to do that this week, although there is a really awesome drawing of a polar bear holding a surfboard next to the note “Sam seems so nice – why these a-holes?”.
