What a show we have for you! It’s chaotic, incoherent at times and was a real blast to record. Hope you can keep up! In the studio we have Jill Marlene, Doyle Wayne Stewart, Margy Ford and Stephen Barron from Wheatstone Bridge, a Reno NV Americana/folk band. No drums, no bass, just a couple of guitars and some singing. Radical concept in these days.

Jill Marlene, looking over the microphone pop guard

                               Crazy eyes

Wheatstone Bridge has been around for a couple years now, and the seasoning has paid off. These four strong talents blend seamlessly, playing new originals and old favorites for us on the show this week. Ford and Marlene are excellent co-singers on all the songs, mirroring and harmonizing with each other with casual grace, while Stewart and Barron do something similar on their guitars.

Margy Ford, with a seductively open-mouth stare

                                    sexy sexy

There’s a lot of chaos in this show but a lot of fun – one of my favorite Quizzes ever is buried in there. We can’t stay on topic for more than a moment and people are stepping all over one another, but that’s what it’s like hanging out with Wheatstone Bridge – a big laughing, feel-y ball of awesome, peppered with music.

Doyle Stewart, with his head thrown back, laughing

              *insert maniacal laughter*

It’s the busy season in Reno right now, with all the big end-of-summer festivals, but whether you’re heading out to Sparks for the cook-off, or the Playa for Burning Man, don’t be stupid. Be safe, don’t get caught and have all the fun.

Stephen Baron, looking at the camera apologetically and mildly bored

Yep.

Thanks for Listening!.

I love my friends!

The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E22

It’s always great to work with your friends and this week is chock full of Friends of the Show! In studio, we once again have the incomparable, Sit Kitty Sit, a hard piano rock band from San Francisco. Kat and Mike routinely play shows up here, for Marianarchy, for Starfleet and the USO and just for fun. It was soooo good to see them again this weekend while they lounged at the luxurious Dogwater Manor like rockstars.

Other friends on the show – Chewie was back in the studio again this week, but Nick was not. Mr Ramirez was attending a hoity toity birthday party in honor of the talented and prolific Reno painter, Greg Allen. Greg is, as you may know, the beneficiary of last year’s Marianarchy. We have a great phone interview with him wishing him a happy birthday.

Kat Downs from Sit Kitty Sit

                                    Kat Downs

Also, at the beginning of the show is an open letter from WLP Booking Manager, Jamie Lynn, about another Marianarchy beneficiary, Tom Plunkett. Tommy took very ill over the weekend and was admitted to the ICU and put on life support. I’m happy to let you know that, at the time of this posting, Tom is lucid and eating and drinking on his own, albeit limitedly. Tommy has a long road of recovery ahead of him, again, so please keep him in your thoughts.

And finally, while The Rev had to duck out to go set up the Blazing Mics open mic night at Jub Jub’s, Lucas Young and Kyler Mosconi stop by the show  and crash it at the end!

The Worst Little Podcast – Season 5 Episode 21

It’s good to be back! It’s good to see ya my friends! A lot of stuff going on in the Worst Little world. You’ll get a big earful out of Dogwater Dick about his ga-mping right at the top of the show. But enough about him! We are lucky enough to have spent a sweaty, filthy and immoral hour with the boys from the scattering, a hardcore/metal band from Reno NV that has been playing shows for about a year. Jim, John, Josh, Jason and … Brian… make up the band and they are pretty monstrous – heavy stuff. If you want to know what I really think of their recorded music, you can check out the review here: http://issuu.com/renotahoetonight/docs/rtt_aug_2015_digital_v2/7.

If you are looking for plans this weekend please join Reverend Rory and Nick down at the old Jub Jub’s this Saturday 8/22/15. From 6- Midnight, we will be supporting the troops through Sci-fi! The 1701st Fleet, a Star Trek fan service organization, puts on a regular benefit for the USO and they have brought their show to Reno. Hosted by Rev Rory, the show will feature such musical  and comedic luminaries as: Nick Ramirez, John and John, Abandon Minds, Elgin Alway, Seasons of Insanity, Drake Nelson, Sit Kitty Sit, Pat Schillito and Reno We Have A Problem. It’s going to be a lot of fun and a good cause. Come on by!

Welcome back, welcome home, welcome to the show. We have a good one lined up for you this week: straight from South Lake Tahoe and the Reno areas, a face-meltingly good time with the ever-cuddly, Bionic Gorilla. These guys were a lot of fun to have in the studio – personable, professional and perverted. Off mic, we had heady debates about politics and philosophy – during the show as always, it degenerated in to fag and fart jokes. I really wish you could have been there…

…seriously though, they are a lot of fun and a bunch of good guys. I was especially impressed with DJ Zee, doing some live sampling and sound efx as an added instrument. That is a rare thing, totally killer, as in killer app,  and Bionic Gorilla should treasure him. You should treasure him by going and seeing them next weekend at the SassaBRATION festival down in Carson City next weekend on August 16.

We also take a call ta the top of the show with Jim Thomas of The Mermen. If you don’t know, they are fucking GODS OF ROCK. The Mermen are a West Coast surf rock band that has enjoyed popularity in the underground/indie/punk/non-mainstream ‘scene’s for 20+ years. They have played Reno many times, but not recently. Jim Thomas takes a moment to talk to us about some of his current projects and coming back out to the Biggest Little City again for their show at Jub Jub’s on August 14th, brought to you by Nowhere Music.

Wham-boozle!

The Worst Little Podcast – 2015 07 27

LAIDEEEEEEEZ! An gennlemen….. Proud to be presenting Strictly Business, featuring the maniacal talents of Captain Dano (Dan Davidson) and BIG JIM (Jamie Locks)! Strictly Business has been playing “Swamp Stomp Boogie” since 2014 here in the Washoe Valley and are a yip-hollerin’ hootenanny of a good time. The Good Mate, Nick Ramirez, steers them through the waters of this week’s episode, without the benefit of Reverend Rory (who was pulling super secret birthday superhero dad-duty that night). Reverend Rory (me, if that hasn’t dawned on you yet, O, Constant Reader) is damn sorry he missed out on this episode.

However, Strictly Business, as awesome as they are, are not the only guests this week, no! We also have Super Friend of the Show, and regular host of the Blazing Mics at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor, Britt Straw. Britt is here with us this week to talk about her work as a conservationsit and wolf advocate here in the Sierra Nevadas and Washoe Valley – and WOLFSTOCK 2015! August 16 at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor!  A passionate woman behind an admirable cause, Britt Straw is dialed in when it comes to wildlife conservation and management.

And while we’re at it, we’re bringing back Hudson Flanigan of Source and SHAM and Stacey Tolle of Gunshot Likker and SHAM! They were in town for performances and appearances for the Nowhere Nevada movie premiere and soundtrack release last weekend. We love them so hard! It was great to have them around to celebrate this labor of love and all the good times at the end of a project a long time coming.

Are you ready for this?

The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E18

An unexpectedly awesome show happened this week! New friends, Hexashooter, joined us this week and delighted us with a set of great songs. While I usually like bands that are a little sloppy, jangly and loose, Hexashooter, is a high energy rock band with killer vocals and gritty music. Raina, Jon, Dustin and Carey are old friends of Dogwater Dick and the Dogwater Studios, having previously recorded their EP there, so we are happy to finally get them in the studio.

Raina, drinking whiskey.

Hellooooo, Raina

You can of course listen to Hexashooter at reverbnation.com, but if you want to get your paws on an actual copy of the CD, go heck them out this Friday night over at Davidson’s Distillery. They’ll be with The Velvet Murder for a free show, starting at 9pm, but they plan on starting late… which gives you plenty of time all day to SEE NOWHERE NEVADA!!! That’s right! Our day has come and it’s finally time for all the hoopla, including a red carpet screening, media events and a rock show on Thursday featuring luminaries like The Atomiks, Stacey Tolle, The Shames, SOURCE, and many more.

Brian Sutherland - green wash and colorization

Brian Sutherland?

Brian Sutherland, Executive Producer for Nowhere Nevada stopped by to talk with us while he and Nick are on their local media junket this week. Brian has a lot of information about the weekend, and his bit’s at the top of the show, so tune in for details.

Carey smiling from a chair

ha-ha! Carey

Well, I’ve gotta get ready for the aforementioned Nowhere Nevada soundtrack release show (did I mention I’m hosting? A boy needs his beauty sleep). Go see the movie. Go see Hexashooter

Hot enough for ya?

The Worst Little Podcast S5 E17

Stabby Unicorn is back! Well, they never went anywhere, but it’s been a couple years since they came by the studio. Since then, they’ve put out an album, some videos, played a LOT of shows and have matured as a wine band. Their sound and timing have gotten tighter and more polished, shaping them into a popular and well received indie rock band in Reno NV.

Eric Foreman smiling at the camera

heh…. Eric foreman….heh

Reverend Rory wasn’t able to make it due to some family obligations (and really feels bad about bailing on Stabby Unicorn), but Nick and Chewie fill in for him somewhat competently admirably and put on a really great show! Don’t forget about the Nowhere Nevada movie premiere and rock show coming up in just a few weeks. With an opening night rock show on July 23, featuring bands from the movie including The Atomiks, The Shames, Stacy Tolle (of Gunshot Likker), Los Pistoleros, SOURCE and many more, this is going to be a huge weekend. You’ll finally get to see the movie that we made, on the big screen, or buy it on DVD, with full commentary from the lead production crew. Come join us for this highfalutin’ event!

Daisy Foreman looking at the camera questioningly

Then there’s other stuff on the show. “What you ask?” Listen to find out…

New music, new friends, same old shtick!

The Worst Little Podcast S5 E16

The Jet Stole Home is a Reno post hardcore band we just met this week. Frankly, I’m not sure what “post hardcore” means  (emo), nor do I know any of the bands they list as influences; that being said, they reminded me of a lot of great bands that no one else has ever heard of either. Ethan Lane (Cookie Monser vocals) , Jeremy Martin (bass and clean vocals), Kyle Daters (guitar), Fitzzy (guitar) and Josh Lopez (drums) absolutely killed it in the studio this week. They were a fun bunch of guys who came to play and came to play(the quiz was quite a nailbiter).

Kyle Daters, smiling broadly in a nice plaid shirt

They’re such nice boys…

Josh Lopez, wearing an NWA t-shirt

…except for that t-shirt…

At the top of the show we also take a call with Greg Golden of the Greg Golden band (and proprietor of Bizarre Guitar and Bizarre Guns in Sparks). The Greg Golden Band is having their CD release party this weekend – 7pm at Mummers in Sparks (the old Alley) and featuring an opening set with our good friend, Mr. Max Volume. Recorded with and produced by Frank Hannon of Tesla, the CD also features vocals by Hannon, Randy Scoles and Jeff Sandoval. The show is going to be a super-event with many music luminaries from around the region and West Coast in attendance.  Greg was kind enough to take a few moments to chat with us about the Reno music scene and surviving as a small business owner in the face of corporate competition. It’s a real treat, so you should definitely take notes on this one.

Jeremy Martin looking at the camera like a suprised deer in the headlights

… and the (alleged!) drugs…

The Jet Stole Home have shows of their own coming up. Well one anyway… you can catch them on August 12th at the Knitting Factory with locals Drag Me Under, We Predict A Riot and headliners, Killswitch Engage. Hopefully they’ll get some more lined up. I really enjoyed this new-fangled thing they call ‘music’.

Fitzzy smiling goofily

…moving on…

…and whatever the hell that is.

Gentlemen, start your dice.

The Worst Little Podcast S5 E15

Great googly moogly! We welcome Jeff Jones, organizer for the 2nd annual RAGECon (Reno Area Gaming Extreme Convention), to the studio this week. RAGECon is a locally-produced convention for the gamers – and not the video gamers, but those players of pencil and paper, dice card and board games and more! Tabletop gaming will be the byword on the weekend of June 26 – 28 at the JA Nugget, with a weekend chock full of gaming sessions, tournaments, free play, vendor demos, panels and, added just this year, a Cosplay Contest! Visit with local shop owners, social organizations like Great Basin Geeks and product reps from dozens of gaming companies; have the chance to win some neat new nerdy product (games and game accessories); and hobnob with luminaries and friends of the show, like: panelist and contest emcee, Thee Reverend Rory Dowd; panelist Felix Danger and cosplayer and blogger; Cheyenne Leigh… and maybe more in the crowd??!!

A 4-box in different exposures, of Jeff jones, organizer of RAGEcon,

Would you like to play a game?

For your musical entertainment, we have a man of surprises, a man of many different talents, a man who needs an introduction because he’s quiet, and therefore dangerous – Mister Bryan Cowell! Bryan has been the longtime drummer for Carson punk rock band, Slut Fungus. Much like Dave Grohl, he was secretly a powerhouse of a singer and guitar player while hiding behind the drums. Also like Grohl, he uses his songs to write about the things he sees in the world. Unlike Grohl, Cowell does not have record execs to impress and has a decidedly morbid bent, whilst spinning and crooning musically and lyrically complex character arcs on the micro phone. I can well assure you that this is not music to be missed. Bryan Cowell is a badass and these songs are not for the weak-hearted. Bring your A-game, listeners.

What a great show! I’m actually listening to this one right now so I can say so with authority! The Infecto Skeletons invade The New Dogwater Studios (Dog H202?) for the first time. For the uninitiated, he Infectos are a punk rock band from Reno NV that has been with us for a number of years now. And to put it in a nutshell: They fucking kill it. They thrash, they rage, they wail and croon. They get people moving and don’t stop until they are ready to fall over. They are a great band to see and a fucking onlaught of fun and drama and punk rock to hang out with.

The Infecto Skeletons share with us a bunch of new songs on the show, songs that will be on the new album! If you want to catch them this weekend, they will be playing at PUNK VS. Last weekend, I went out to see “Shiner“, the most recent Good Luck Macbeth production, and it hit me in the sweet spot. Directed by Bill Ware, written by Christian Durso and starring Kate Atack and Patrick John Kiernan, “Shiner” is the story of two outcast teenagers in the mid-90’s, set in the weeks leading up to Kurt Cobain’s death. It is a must-see; don’t hesitate, just trust me. Nostalgic, without being saccharine, the journey of the characters is easily accessible to anyone who was in their teens and twenties in that decade. It helped me reach back across the years and touch the righteous fire of my rebellion, wince with chagrin at the all-too-familiar awkward actions of a newbie poser. It’s not a play of remembrance and a better time, cause the world was shit then and it still is now; it is a play of reminding, reminding you about what was important, what was wrong, and what drove you before you learned to compromise. It’s surreal and invigorating and inspiring. My initial reaction upon walking outside and being asked what I thought: “I need a cigarette, a moment, a shot, to rub one out, a snackl and maybe a nap.”  This is good theater, kids, theater that doesn’t compromise and invites you to come as you are. Srsly. Go. Follow the link above or right here and buy tickets now. There are only three shows left.

Can’t forget to mention RAGEcon! June 26-28, at the JA Nugget, Reno Area Gaming Extreme Convention is the area’s newest tabletop gaming convention. Offering tabletop gaming events, including board games, card games, dice games, miniatures games and RPGs, RAGEcon will also feature discussion panels on gaming and cosplay, and a cosplay contest, emcee’d by Thee Reverend Rory. Reverend Rory, Felix Danger and other notable area nerds will be on hand to speak at length and offer opinions about gaming. Come join the dorky fun!

This Friday is the Final First Friday at Foxy Olive with the Reverend Rory Dowd. Sad, but true. It’s been an awesome run and we’ve had a lot of fun this past year, but events out of our control make it un-feasible. Our Guest is Glynn Osburn of Limbo State, who is an amazing performer and will be a great note to go out on. Come out, help us close it down reel gud  and party like a rock star.
