Infecto Skeletons – The Blandrew Sessions – S5 E14
We might not be rich, but we’re having fun…
The Worst Little Podcast S5 E14 – Download Link
What a great show! I’m actually listening to this one right now so I can say so with authority! The Infecto Skeletons invade The New Dogwater Studios (Dog H202?) for the first time. For the uninitiated, he Infectos are a punk rock band from Reno NV that has been with us for a number of years now. And to put it in a nutshell: They fucking kill it. They thrash, they rage, they wail and croon. They get people moving and don’t stop until they are ready to fall over. They are a great band to see and a fucking onlaught of fun and drama and punk rock to hang out with.
The Infecto Skeletons share with us a bunch of new songs on the show, songs that will be on the new album! If you want to catch them this weekend, they will be playing at PUNK VS. METAL, a Myke Read Presents night of punk rock and metal, with a winner to be declarede at the end of the bout, by popular applause! Are you a punk? Are you a metalhead? Come see Infecto Skeletons, Dissidence, The Business End, Ostracized, The Sex Devils and Down Time and cheer your team on!!
Last weekend, I went out to see “Shiner“, the most recent Good Luck Macbeth production, and it hit me in the sweet spot. Directed by Bill Ware, written by Christian Durso and starring Kate Atack and Patrick John Kiernan, “Shiner” is the story of two outcast teenagers in the mid-90’s, set in the weeks leading up to Kurt Cobain’s death. It is a must-see; don’t hesitate, just trust me. Nostalgic, without being saccharine, the journey of the characters is easily accessible to anyone who was in their teens and twenties in that decade. It helped me reach back across the years and touch the righteous fire of my rebellion, wince with chagrin at the all-too-familiar awkward actions of a newbie poser. It’s not a play of remembrance and a better time, cause the world was shit then and it still is now; it is a play of reminding, reminding you about what was important, what was wrong, and what drove you before you learned to compromise. It’s surreal and invigorating and inspiring. My initial reaction upon walking outside and being asked what I thought: “I need a cigarette, a moment, a shot, to rub one out, a snackl and maybe a nap.” This is good theater, kids, theater that doesn’t compromise and invites you to come as you are. Srsly. Go. Follow the link above or right here and buy tickets now. There are only three shows left.
Can’t forget to mention RAGEcon! June 26-28, at the JA Nugget, Reno Area Gaming Extreme Convention is the area’s newest tabletop gaming convention. Offering tabletop gaming events, including board games, card games, dice games, miniatures games and RPGs, RAGEcon will also feature discussion panels on gaming and cosplay, and a cosplay contest, emcee’d by Thee Reverend Rory. Reverend Rory, Felix Danger and other notable area nerds will be on hand to speak at length and offer opinions about gaming. Come join the dorky fun!
This Friday is the Final First Friday at Foxy Olive with the Reverend Rory Dowd. Sad, but true. It’s been an awesome run and we’ve had a lot of fun this past year, but events out of our control make it un-feasible. Our Guest is Glynn Osburn of Limbo State, who is an amazing performer and will be a great note to go out on. Come out, help us close it down reel gud and party like a rock star.
We love the Infecto Skeletons. Especially Andy.
Thanks for Listening.
Verbal Kint – Dancing Bear – S5 E13
GitUP wit cha git down!
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E13
It’s been a long time coming, but we have some true Reno music superstars in the studio with us this week – Jammal Tarkington and Ryan Hall of Verbal Kint! Yeah, that’s right! These guys have been rocking Reno stages for decades. Easily well known for other projects (Cranium, Keyser Soze), Tarkington and Hall have always has this secret, other side; place for original songs or covers that didn’t fit with the other bands. Verbal Kint has always been this rogue acoustic vagabond of an act, popping up when you least expect them.
It’s a fun and exciting show we have for you this week. We go to a phone call with Mitch of Heffe’s Saloon in Lafayette, LA to get a status report about the Vampirates. Evidently, the show was fantastic. Not entirely sure. Mitch was a few drinks into his evening (much later in the evening out there) and the phone connection is, well a cell phone connection. Reverend Rory totally mis-translates him at the end. It’s awesome. Mikie Haley and Penny Scillin of The Shames sotp by with cake for Mikie’s birthday too!
We would be remiss if we did not mention Marianarchy as well. Nick, I and especially Rhiannon want to thank everyone who came out, every one who worked and everyone who played. We raised over $2,500 for Rhiannon last weekend and that is priceless. All the bands were fantastic, with both of the headliners, Sit Kitty Sit and Kittenhead, killing it each day. I wanted to take the time to give them both a littl e live show pub, so here goes:
—
Complimenting their bold and tempestuous music, the live performances of Sit Kitty Sit are a passionate and wildly exciting experience. Between songs, Thompson’s quiet wit and Downs’ easy charm draw audiences in before blasting their souls with their powerful music. During songs, the room is filled with an onslaught of soaring vocals and wild abandon. Thompson batters away at his skins like an unstoppable monster while Downs thrashes wildly about, posing and pointing her bare feet like a ballet dancer. Like corks adrift in a sea storm, fans sway and dance, rising and falling with the music, caught in the maelstrom and intensity of a Sit Kitty Sit performance.
—
Like a molten tidal wave, Kittenhead slams into the audience from the first chord of the first song, sending waves of pure riot into the crowd. Kivi Kittenhead, blasts and berates the audience, slowly stripping off layers of leather, vinyl, white cotton and plaid pleats throughout the set. DD and VJJ wildly careen around the stage, challenging and dueling each other, trading bass and guitar back and forth. O-Face, well – he jus tloves his job, holding down the fort on the drums, with the best seat in the house. The punk rock frenzy of Kittenhead spins and churns and whips up to a chaotic release, like a lid flying off a blender on high. And we are spent.

Abandon Minds – Marianarchy Edition – S5 E12
It’s the most special time of the year!
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E12
We gots some bare-bones, sharp as a razor, old-school punk rock for you this week, featuring Abandon Minds, a punk trio from Carson City. Abandon Minds is Johnny Thunderpiss on bass and vocals, Will Imnot on guitar and vocals, and the man himself, Handsome Greg on the drums. They have been playing together for the past 4 years, regularly making the trip up to Reno to play shows in that time. Drawing inspiration from 70s and 80s punk, Abandon Minds has a tight set of originals and covers. I think we squeezed in five songs this week. You can catch Abandon Minds at Marianarchy this weekend on Day Two. More on that later.
Also joining us is Dalien Effin Punk of Effin Punx Streetwear. Effin Punx Streetwear is a local clothing line, self described as “streetwear for the inner punk in all of us, born from the West Coast underground.” Daniel has been aggressively working it all around Reno, Tahoe, Carson and all points in between lately. You’ve probably noticed the stickers and Tees. If you haven’t you should. Daniel is the kind of punk who puts his money where his mouth is. He has been sponsoring all these great punk shows that you’ve been seeing in the past nine months, helping venues and promoters attract bands and fans to live events. In addition to being a sponsor for Marianarchy XI, Effin Punx is looking forward to helping bring 7Seconds back home on June 20 at the Knitting Factory with The Briggs, Success and Machine Gun Vendetta.
It’s MARIANARCHY DAY ONE!!!!! and MARIANARCHY DAY TWO!!!!! Marianarchy XI!!!!!!
As you well know, Nick and Rory and a ton of other people work hard and have a special place in their hearts for this event. We say we take care of our own; and we do. We often help out members of the community who have strong ties to the art scene and are our friends. But it is bitter sweet when it is someone who has also worked hard at this event. Like beneficiaries in the past, this year we are pitching in to help out someone who has played and attended many many Marianarchies (sp?), the lovely Ms. Rhiannnon Box. Also a former guest of the show as a member of Stabby Unicorn, Rhiannon was diagnosed with MS last year. Dead bears. With the blowing. This Friday and Saturday, please join us to pass the hat, play some music, have a good time and help a sista out! Silent auction and raffle with astounding local art, as usual, as well.

Liam Kyle Cahill and Low La La – Double the Fun – S5 E10
Not one, but TWO fantastic acts on ONE show!
The Worst Little Podcast S5 E 10
We’ve got a one-two punch for you this week. Both Liam Kyle Cahill and Low La La are in studio this week! And if that’s not enough to whet your whistle, they both debut brand new tunes for you! That’s right! 5 years in and we are still bringing you exclusive new songs from the streets of Reno!
Liam Kyle Cahill is a well-known act in the Reno circuit, playing profusely and networking non-stop throughout not just the local Reno scene, but nationally and internationally. Cahill is a passionate singer, thoughful writer, polished musician and dynamic performer; he is a real powerhouse of talent in this town. After nearly two years of e-mail tag and random run-ins, we were finally able to squeeze him in on the calendar just days before he leaves town for tour. Liam is happy to announce that he has is sponsored by Fretlight Guitar on the FretLight Tour, which will take him throughout the Northwest this spring and will continue throughout the country most of this year. In my mind, the FretLight Tour STARTED at Dogwater Studios and on the Worst Little Podcast. Break all the legs, Liam!
Joining Cahill on the show is Low La La, a unique duo and true treat of a performance, suprisingly, also from Reno NV! Low La La is Hanna Etchison and Cody Thomas, united by both the love of music and themselves. Oh! and each other – they’re not just raging narcissists. They’re a couple, So that will end badly, but while it’s great, they are making fantastic music. Guitar, banjolele and a mesmerising voice. “Banjolele?”, you say? Yes. Banjolele. It’s exactly what you think it is – a banjo and a ukulele had a baby.

Also shooting up the proverbial charts with a bullet, Low La La has been making a splash in the Reno music world, with their dreamy, poppy sound. You can catch them next during the May 8 Wine Walk, at Liberty Fine Arts.
This is a really fantastic episode, with one of my favorite quizzes ever. Chock full of good times and great music, all of the guests came to play and we had a blast.
Thanks for listening!
John Underwood – Siberian Haze – S5 E9
Fresh off the road!
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E9 – Download Link
John Underwood breezes back into town, fresh off tour, and stops in for a private final performance of the tour, just for you! While you might not be impressed that a solo guy just came back from a NW tour, it’s a little more complicated than that. I walk into the studio and John is surrounded by no less than 9 instruments, replete with horns and a rhythm section, one foot processor and a couple mics. And he plays them all on all of the songs. It was insane. Despite an enrapturing and butt-numbing 13 minute song, it was truly a treat of a performance.
Also in studio, we welcome back our good friend, Evan Humphreys! You may remember Evan from such project as: The Rocky Horror Extravaganza, Pinky Polanski, Aversion Therapy and… The Worst Little Podcast Theme! Today, Evan has another project he wanted to talk about. Pull the Plug Audio, a Reno NV off-the-grid performance audio company. They have hi-performance audio equipment that runs on high-performance batteries, perfect for outdoor or mobile events such as Burning Man or Reno Earth Day 2015! Pull the Plug Audio will be providing sound to the two main stages, as well as 2 or 3 more side stages, all day on Sunday. If you’re interested in ‘green’ tech or cordless gear, these are the guys you want to check out and ask questions of. Even spoke techno-babble. It was like listening to opera in Italian and I don’t speak Italian.
Lastly, bust mostly firstly in the show order (so if you’re listening and reading this you already know what I’m about to say) , we take a long distance call from our good friends in KARMA! They are ensconced in studio in New York right now and actually recording themselves while we tried to called them and then, Oh! hilarity that ensued! Good to talk to the kids. If you miss them ornever heard of them or are a lukewarm, but like to be in the know you can check them out this coming May 1st! A live feed of their performance at The Bitter End, “New York City’s Oldest Rock Club” will be available. THey say they’ll be up at 10PM PST on a friday, so check them out before you head out. Pre-party with good KARMA!

Enslave the Creation – Full House, But No Full Deck – S5 E8
Smile while your face melts, nancy!
The Worst Little Podcast – 2015 04 13 – Download Link
Wow! This episode is tight like your mom money clip! We welcome Enslave the Creation, a Reno progressive death metal band, to the show. It’s literally what happens when you combine prog rock and deathmetal.
They come in all nice and congenial and not too smelly, then proceed to lay down enormous face-melting metal! Structured, clean, practiced and blazing. Holy fuckballs, Batman! “Are you ready for brutality?” was actually asked of us during the show. We were not entirely ready – and all this was sans drummer and vocals! You can listen to more of their music at the Enslave the Creation’s reverbnation page. (For you Reno-music-philes, they play in the same league as Cranium.)
Enslave the Creation is Eric Marks, Mike Stewart, Chris Portugal, and Jared Klein. Klien was unable to make it on account of being a loser living in Sacramento, but they muddle on with an excellent track of him nailing all of their songs. They are perpetually auditioning for a lead singer. They’ve never found quite the right match in 5 YEARS of playing shows. If you think you’ve got what it takes, hit them up.
Also in studio are Cameron Shirey, Matt Biondi, Ryan Kelly and Bill Ware, a group of Reno actors, writers and directors who have collaborated in a short film project called “Battle of the Band”. It’s about a contest with only one contestant, but not like you think. Primary shooting begins in May With an expected showing of the film in July at the Good Luck Macbeth theater.
As always, Thanks for Listening!
Michelle Pappas – Mixing It Up – S5 E7
Aaaaand we’re back! Again!
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E7 – Download Link
Thanks for bearing with us while we settle into the new studio! It’s been a rough month for us all and we have had some technical issues. However, we welcome into the studio the prolifically awesome Michelle Pappas! We are also joined by Jeffrey and Adam from the TMCC Theater!
Nick and Jamie take the reigns on this one as The Rev was out of town on a family vacation – Road Trip to Vegas. So enjoy the show. I have no idea of what’s on it since I didn’t get in until late last night and haven’t had a chance. See you next week and:

Tooth of Crime: New Digs, Booga – S5 E6
Choogin, baybay, choogin!
The Worst Little Podcast – 2015 03 02
I am so conflicted about this episode!!!! First, we have the cast from “Tooth of Crime” on, which is so awesome; second, Jamie hosted the show in its entirety, which is good and bad (good that she can handle it, bat that my job is at stake now); and finally – it’s the last episode ever from beautiful suburban Sparks! What is this world coming to?!?!
“Tooth of Crime” is a play written, and then later re-written, by Sam Sheppard. It involves live music, cars and fire. It is dangerous theater. It is a play that has not always been well received. It is a play that may have never been done correctly, even when directed by the author. A small group of actors from Reno believe that they can pull it off like no one has.
Director Dave Richards brings most of his cast and the band to the studio with him to talk about the upcoming performances. He is joined by Lew Zaumeyer (Hoss), Jill Marlene (Becky Lou), Scott Dundas (Chaser), Andy Luna (Crow), Nick Ramirez (Meera), Rory Dowd (Rudio Ran) from the cast and also Jeff Done, Pat Mayfield, Dave Masud and Chris Fox from the Reno “Tooth of Crime” band. For a last session, we crammed so many people in that the whole band AND Reverend Rory had to sit in the living room! That’s why Jamie got to host the show! (I knew you were wondering)
If you’re interested in seeing the show, Tickets are for sale at Jub Jub’s, The Melting Pot and online.
For a final episode at the old house, we couldn’t have asked for a better set of guests – some old friends, some brand new to the show. ANd we had fun. We will be taking a one week hiatus so Dogwater Dick can move ye olde studios into Reno! Crazy things are afoot in the neighborhood. Chekkit what’s been happening down the block:

The Liver Scars – Beyond Control – S5 E5
That really hurt.
The Worst Little Podcast – S5 E5 – Download Link
You know ’em – you love ’em – it’s THE LIVER SCARS!!!! Felix, Nick, Garrett, Todd and Ron form The Liver Scars are in the studio live and with their livers turned up to 11! You know we drink on this show, but this week was like Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day steamrolled into one.I’ll just say that I tried to hold onto some semblance of show flow or control, but with these guys… I think I gave up in the first segment.
What can I say about the Liver Scars that wouldn’t be incredibly incriminating? Besides the fact that they truly are one of my favorite bands, ever and currently…. Um…. Felix remained conscious throughout the entirety of the show! Ron has a Napoleon thing going on. Garrett and Milton Berle have a lot in common. Todd gets redfaced REALLY quickly. And, yes, Nick really is just always that spacey.
You will want to check out The Liver Scars on their Facebook page and at their Upcoming show opening up fo D.R.I. at Jub Jub’s! This show is crazy and off the rails and I really don’t remember what happened after the beer boxes came out. (That’s why this post is short.) Whole episode is a bit of a blur. I think a mason jar of whiskey was involved. Shudder.
Thanks for Listening!
