Jeff Done and Jenny Pez – Marianarchy Winter Ball 2014 – S4 E40

Put on your fancy clothes and dancin’ shoes!
The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E 40
I took the week off, so I’m not really here. Reverend Rory had another birthday this week and blew off the show to spend it with his ladies (homemade cheesecake and ravioli!). We all wish he never comes back has another great trip around the sun! In studio, coming through at the 11th hour, we have The Jenny and jeff Show (capitalization intended)! Good friends of the show, Jeff Done (Walk of Shame, Stevedave, Fall Silent) and Jenny Pez DeSpencer (Reno Tahoe Comedy, Knitting Factory, 3rd Street Bar) come by to hang out, and by hang out we mean, Jenny takes over the show with out the Rev, to reign her in with his own oversized ego.
(Since I wasn’t on teh show, I don’t really know what happenend yet and I’m going to listen tomorrow with you, so I’m going to focus on)
MARIANARCHY WINTER BALL 2014 – A BENEFIT FOR GREG ALLEN
As you all know, the podcast is intrinsically involved with Marianarchy Reno, an organization Nick Ramirez started many years ago to benefit Reno artists in need and the art community in general, in memory of Marianne Psota. This year, our Winter Ball will be going to benefit Greg Allen, the legendary Reno painter, photographer and artist. After declining health for some time, Greg has let it be known that he has congestive heart failure. As a long-time friend of all of us at WLP, and espeically Nick and Marianne, it was inevitable that Marianarchy Reno step up to help a brother out.
This year’s festivities will feature 37 local bands over two days – Friday 12/12 and Saturday 12/13 – as well as performances by local comedians an art auction and much more. According to the Mistress of Prizes, Risky Burn, “We are going to have a massive orgy of items for you to win! We want this to be a successful fundraiser so that Greg Allen cannot only be deliciously bathed in your melodic hugs, but raise some monies to be useful for him, allowing him to concentrate on his health. So save some bones and let us relieve you of your cash while distracting you with art, gift certificates, bar tabs, and more.”
Also, Nick plays some tunes and New Girl takes a spin in the chair again.
Well, I have to go rehearse for the show – Playing in Princess Bombs and Lighter Theif – but I expect to see you there. Another big thanks to Jenny and Jeff for coming in to hang out with Nick and New Girl.
Thanks for Listening,

I would Like to begin by reiterating the fact that I, thee Reverend Rory Dowd, am a font of misinformation when I speak. That being said, I hope you enjoy this week’s episode! Aaron Steinmetz, Reno area author and musician joins us this week with his words and tunes! Aaron is a true artist and writer, hermiting himself away to create his art usually, but here he is sharing EXCLUSIVE new works with us and the public!
Despite not playing regularly recently, Aaron plays an original that he wrote just for the show called “Lost and Found”; he also read us us a surprisingly awesome passage called “The Stripping Game” from a new novel; and plays us some tracks from his CD “The New Wilderness”. He kinda does it all folks. Aaron Steinmetz is also the author behind the Sleepy P.I. Trilogy and over on his website, www.aaronsteinmetz.com, he’s also starting a new blog, “My Cat (Is Trying To Kill Me)” which should have the first installment up by the time this publishes. All over the place and an avid listener, Aaron was a lot of fun to have on the show.
That’s enough out of me. Hope to see you out this Friday when I host the First Friday at Foxy Olive with my December Guests: Spike and Jackson!
Thanks for listening!
Satellite Serenade – Happy Turkey Day, Turkey – S4 E38

Gobble Gobble!
The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E38 – Download Link
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! We are all enjoying a day with our families, and if you’re listening to the podcast on Turkey Day itself, well, have a drink with us too! We are all so thankful that we have been able to bring this show to you for the better part of four years and feature all sorts of sides of the Reno music scene.
This week, we have Satellite Serenade, a Reno alt-pop duo. Satellite Serenade features the always fun Margy Ford on vocals and the talents of Jon Cornell backing her up on vocals and guitar. Jon and Margy have played together many times before in other projects, but this is their first time as a dynamic duo and they are mindblowing. Great songwriting and strong vocals are a hallmark of this young band.
We also make a few calls on the episode. First we talk to Joe Atack about his upcoming show at Bruka Theater, Ham for the Holidays. It’s a fun farce about the holidays and an old timey radio station – a true nerdfest for all of you audiophiles. The interview is during a rehearsal and the cast passes around the phone and we are treated to some interviews with the characters themselves. Ham will open on 12/5/14.
We also have a chat with our favorite mentalist, Xelena Empress of the Impossible! She treats us to a few feats over the phone, but is she always right? Listen for more! YOu can also check her out at the next Blazing Mics and see if you can win her $500 prediction challenge – she picked next Monday’s football game and is putting a parlay card, among other valuables, on the line.
Our family keeps growing and we welcome, Cole the Honkey to the show as Rick’s newest intern. But enough about him. If you want to catch Satellite Serenade, they will be playing at Marianarchy in just a few weeks. Chek them out and support a local artist at the same time!
Thanks for Listening.
Boss’ Daughter – Songs About Drinking – S4 E37

Dicks! Lots of Dicks!
The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E37
The holidays are almost here and as the cold weather bursts upon us, so does the new sensation sweeping the Reno Nation – Boss’ Daughter! Chris Fox, Danny Paul and Jamie Locks comprise this new Reno punk band. With a depth of experience behind them, they kick some serious ass. Boss’ Daughter has been pretty active the last couple of months to the delight of scores of jaded show-goers.
I also just want to say: Chris likes dicks. Lots of dicks. Find out how he gets dozens of dicks late in the show! That being said: this show was a blast. We had a lot of fun talking at to the band, about their evolution, the grammatical complexities of their name and drinking. They don’t have a CD quite yet, but are working on it. Beyond that though, Boss Daughter can be found on facebook and will be playing at the Alley this weekend and Jub Jub’s with the Ataris on Dec. 6th.
Coming up this week at Blazing Mics we have good friend of the show, Larry Cooper hosting. It’ should be a great time and we’d love to see you. Enjoy Reno ComiCon if you’re attending the perennial nerd event.
Thanks for listening!
Elspeth Summers – Sound Signifying – S4 E36

Well, howdy!
The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E36 – Download Link
It’s good to have the whole gang together! We have a full cast this week with New Girl and Chewie in the studio with us. Gardnerville native and singer/songwriter Elspeth Summers made the drive up to join us on the show this week. She plays some fantastic originals, making us all swoon over her sultry twang and smooth strum.
We had a really fun episode, although I feel like we should apologize to Elspeth for having to put up with us all yammering away about ourselves and barely letting her get an extra word in. You can check her out at her website, www.elspethsummers.com or on her Facebook page. She has a few songs available online and will have an EP out very soon. I for one can’t wait to hear her with a full band, but for now you get a fun-size dose of just her and a guitar.
We’ve got Marianarchy on the horizon, but are laying pretty low ourselves. If you’re looking for something to do, there’s the Biggest Little Theater Festival at Bruka or RMP Open Mic at Wildflower Village or KARMA, Stabby Unicorn, Clementine’s Knight, Small Drawings, and Broken Lungs at Jub Jub’s or any number of other things, mang! Reno has great stuff going on!
Thanks for listening…
KARMA – Glaze of Bory – S4 E35

Hello, hello!
The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E35 – Download Link
Great Scott! It’s a very exciting week here on the Worst Little Podcast. Not only did we enjoy a lovely update on Nick and Dick’s ever improving hygiene, but we also got to spend time with some old friends of the show!
We are thrilled to introduce to you the long awaited Reno super-group, KARMA. That’s right, these are seasoned musicians folks. KARMA is composed of the amazing Greg Gilmore on guitar and vocals, the sultry Michelle Belle on guitar and vocals as well, ridiculously good-looking Adam Springob on bass and vocals too, and the dashing Carter Stellon on drums.
KARMA is in the process of recording an EP at our very own Dogwater Studios. However, they didn’t play any of the songs that appear on the EP because it’s all very hush hush. Oooh, mysterious… But don’t worry, they will be playing a pre-order release show on November 15th at Jub Jub’s. Joining them will be Stabby Unicorn, Hungry Skinny, and more! Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to see what all the fuss is about!
You can follow KARMA on Facebook for updates on their EP’s upcoming release, and you should! We hope you are all as excited as we are about Marianarchy. Don’t forget, December 12th and 13th!
We’d also like to give a shout out to the lovely ladies of Bohemian Burlesque. They’re putting on a charity show benefiting Safe Embrace on Nov. 22. From the lovely Nicole Rose, “All of the proceeds from the show go directly to Safe Embrace, a local non-profit that gives directly back to our community. They assist men, women and children who are affected by intimate partner violence and domestic abuse, this includes Transgendered people. They provide housing, rent assistance, resume workshops, and community programs. This is a great event to help spread awareness, and support our community through this local non profit (and see boobs).” So check out their event page and support a great local organization. – Reverend Rory
Sam the intern here sincerely hoping you have a great week,
and as always, thanks for listening.
The Tides – Intern Week! – S4 E34

Hello Reno!
The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E34 – Download Link
It’s Intern Week here on the Worst Little Podcast, introducing myself (Sam, the Intern) on the production end of things and the lovely Jamie Woodham, handling general, top secret podcast-ey stuff. She joins us on the show this week along with The Tides. The Tides (not the laundry detergent) are a new(ish) rock/punk band, and they don’t even really DO laundry! At the heart of the group, and back on the show with us, is the one and only Oliver Hull (guitar/vocals).
But wait, there’s more! Oliver is joined by his two devilishly handsome friends, Fred Dai (bass) and Derek Todd (drums). The Tides have been playing together for a while, but only recently emerged from a 6 month hiatus due to Oliver’s punk-like neck breakage. Listen now to find out how he did it!
In other news, Evil Dead the Musical is going fabulously, Nick also doesn’t do laundry, and Rikku found herself grounded *gasp* after a series of very big no-no’s.
You can find this steamy trio on their website or on Facebook. Their next show is not until Marianarchy, but stay tuned with them for any yet-to-be-announced shows!
Thanks for Listening
Angel Garcia – All the Eeems – S4 E33

Good News and Bad News, everyone!
The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E33
Key, kids! What’s up?!? It’s a fantastic week over here at the palatial Dogwater Studios. The good news is that Evil Dead: The Musical has completely sold out the run of the show – you’ll have to catch us in 2015 if you didn’t see it yet. The bad news is that The Annual Dogwater Punkin’ Carving Party is cancelled this year. Dogwater Dick wants to take one year in 20 off, so we guess that’s fair.
In the long and storied tradition of the show, we picked up a guy at the open mic to play on the show. Angel Garcia, Reno musician and singer, joins us this week to rattle out some of his songs on the innerwebs. Garcia has actively been playing music in Reno for the last year or so, typically as a solo act, but also with a few bands. Prior to Northern Nevada, he was in SoCal, where he gained the moniker “Toxicblinds” as a DeeJay. Despite his rough and freakish exterior, Angel sings like… (not gonna say it!) a pretty pop star. It’s not exactly bubblegum punk rock, but he shure dew have a purty voice.
Early in the show, we take a phone call with Reno’s own #1 female comedian, Jenny PezDeSpencer! Jenny is having another live show at Jub Jub’s on November 8 that she wants you to go to. Her sets are raucous and awesome and delightfully offensive. Take a chance! Be a part of a live comedy album and chekkit out.
In a surprise move, “Magic” Larry Cooper drops by the studio and sits in with us for a whole to tell us about his new album that he’s been recording with Dogwater Dick. Larry’s a dick. He totally hijacks Angel’s show and gets really drunk and breaks stuff. At least he pays his dues and takes part in the quiz.
Don’t forget, in the spirit of the season, come check out the Rocky Horror Extravaganza with music by Pinky Polanski and hosted by Thee Reverend Rory Dowd. Tickets will go fast for them, so get them online now or at the Whitney Peak main desk. Happening on Halloween 10/31/14 there is an all ages show at 8pm and an all adults show at midnight
Thanks for Listening
Vague Choir – Something Something – S4 E32

Is there a such thing as post post rock?
The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E32
Hey everybody! It’s a fantastic week here on The Worst Little Podcast, well for most of us. Dogwater Dick got some bad news this week – very distressing, but nothing permanent – listen in the first five minutes to find out why!?! Mark Earnest says, “If you can make it through the first seven minutes, you’re a braver man than I!” Mark is the lead singer and guitar player for Vague Choir. You remember Mark, right? Old friend of the show from the first season!
Mark is joined by his soulmates, Marcus Mayhall (bass) and Jason Thomas (drums). Contrary to what Reverend Rory thought popular belief, Marcus and Jason have never appeared on the show! Yet another Worst Little Podcast First! Which is funny since we bring you another Worst Little Podcast EXCLUSIVE! Vague Choir’s first set is some previously unrecorded (released?) songs that didn’t make it to their first album.
Speaking of albums, if you are in a local band, don’t forget to bring copies of your album to Discology, the final real record store in Reno. They want to have a large and vibrant local music section, but can’t do it until enterprising young musicians like yourselves stop by and drop off some merch! Support local music and local business all in one fell swoop!
Vague Choir does have a show happening this Saturday, October 11 at Monolith Bar, with out-of-towners Fortune Club and dj Tigerbunny. Please check these badasses out in person.
And as always, Thanks for Listening.
Evil Dead: The Musical – Vaude Villan – S4 E31

Gimme some sugar, baby….
The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E31
It’s finally October – our favorite time of year! The days shorten and cool and thoughts turn to the warm glowing eyes of demons and monsters. It’s the spooky time! To celebrate this fact, Vaude Villain Entertainment has brought the second greatest musical adventure known to man to a Reno Stage. From Vaude Villain’s production of Evil Dead: The Musical we have co-directors John Frederick and Ashley Marie James (an Evil Tree) and Jeff Bentley (Jake) in the studio to talk about the show and Reno theater!
We also take a call from Evan Buckley Harris, the production’s Ash, while he was on the road. That was fun and totally not awkward at all! The cast is a fun tight knit group who really kill the performance. Full disclosure: I’m also a part of Vaude Villain Entertainment and, as you are likely aware of, a producer of this show. Other than sitting in on a voice rehearsal and seeing a couple rehearsal short videos of movement rehearsals, I hadn’t seen this production at all until opening night and it. Was. A. BLAST. We’ve had sold out shows so far and you should really do yourself a favor and follow the link and get yourself presale tickets – this is a hot ticket right now in the Reno nightlife scene.
It’s a great episode and an even better show. Please check them out!
Thanks For Listening.
