My Acoustic Heart and the Great Communicator – S4 E9
Strap in, folks!
The Worst Little Podcast – Download Link – S4 E9
April showers bring WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING TO THE WEATHER? Hope you’re enjoying early spring here in the Washoe Valley area. I’m not.
What I am enjoying is having gotten to meet and hang out with Josh Ortiz of My Acoustic Heart on this latest episode! Ortiz is a quickly rising name in the Reno singer-songwriter community and a giant dork really swell guy. Unfortunately he was warned about the quiz by former friend of the show, Josiah Knight (who will NOT be appearing with us anytime soon). Ortiz is most of My Acoustic Heart, having come on the show without telling his sometimes partner, Greg, because he’s a diva. He’s also got one hell of a set of pipes!
Also on the show, bringing the kind of crazy energy that only he can is Darin Honorof, the Great Communicator as dubbed by Dogeater Dick. 100 points if you can follow his conversation; a bonus 1000 points if you can explain it to us in a letter. He really injects his own way of looking at the world and infects us all with it.
Thanks for listening!
Gabe Hilton – Slow Explosion – S4 E5
New set coming up!
The Worst Little Podcast – Download Link – S4 E5
Hello, boys and girls! We hope you’ve been behaving yourselves this week (mostly). Up next on the show, we have Gabe Hilton, an up and coming Reno musician and songwriter. Born and bred in this City of Trembling Leaves, Gabe has grown up around the Reno art and music scene. He’s also NOT a tweaker, loser or asshole – go figure! He’s actually an accomplished young performer, having been a driving force behind the recent staging of The Tribute to the Hazards of Love and the lead vocalist in the same.
Hilton is next set to appear this weekend at the Knitting Factory for the first time at the Night of Acoustic Appreciation on Saturday, March 1st. How about that? People spend years, decades even, humping their ass to get a little notice around town, in the hopes of getting onto a big stage; this little shit puts on a show and plays at a couple open mics and get son the bill! Hopefully he’s talented enough to hang with the likes of Myke Read, Mason Frey, The Westside Digs, Estebo Estes, My Acoustic Heart, Adam Springob , Whitebulbs and Jenera Paxton.
Despite no Chewie this week, we have a fun show with Gabe Hilton! We’ve all had pretty exciting weeks – Reverend Rory’s been dating someone; Rick has an upcoming date and Nick is still happy in love (despite evidence to the contrary above or anywhere else). It’s a fun time with a mix of covers and originals by Hilton. Check him out on Saturday at the Knit and an upcoming show on the 6th (details inside!)
Thanks for listening!!!
Glynn, Xelena and Hanna – Mind Bending Possibilities – S4 E1
It’s a whole new world!
The Worst Little Podcast – Download Link – S4 E1
It’s the first show of a brand new season! It has been a giant blast to have been with you all for the last three years and we hope you stay with us for many more!
This week’s lineup is more random than usual. First up, our musical guest, Glynn Osburn. At first glance, he’s a typical Reno skate punk, but Glynn runs much deeper than that. Having been brought up on the teat of Reno music, Glynn has himself entered into the ring and brings powerful vocals and killer music writing. He’s been making the rounds at a lot of open mics in 2013, so I don’t think it’s going to be much longer before we see this guy in a band.
Additionally, we have visiting with us Hanna Rodgers, owner of Centurian publishing. Centurian iteslf is an adult erotica catalogue that has been in business (including “male” order) since the 1960s. The publishing company however also puts out a number of fetish or BDSM magazines including titles like Forced Womanhood (submitted males), Enslaved Sissies (submitted males) and Transformations (transgendered). She talks about her publishing company and a little about the fetish scene, but mainly she came in to support our final guest…
Xelena! Empress of the Impossible! Xelena is professional mentalist here in Reno, divining your thoughts from the mysteries of the cosmos in some ineffable way that will mystify and mesmerize your mind! She set up a trick with The Rev at the open mic last week and this was the conclusion of that. Batting 1.000 on the show, Xelena proceeds to pluck the answers to puzzles out of seemingly thin air! Additionally, she sealed a Superbowl sports book ticket in an envelope and gave it to Reverend Rory in anticipation of this week’s big game. The reveal is going to be at the open mic night on 2/3 – you should show up to check it out.
Additionally Xelena has a show coming up on February 16 – a Gallery of Mystery and Fetish at the Wildflower Village, featuring Mental Mysteries, Erotic Art, and Gender-Bending Humor, Some of the art samples will be out of Hanna Rodger’s personal and extensive collection.
That’s all for now.
Thanks for listening!
It’s gonna be a great season!
Voted Best Band – Voted Best Podcast – S3 E42
Yeah, Yeah, I know….
Worst Little Podcast – Download Link – S3 E39
Season Three is winding to a close. Things will be ALL NEW in Season Four. Like getting the podcast out on time (still looking for the right sucker applicant to fill the position of Production Intern – contact Reverend Rory to make that happen).
But still, this is a fun show. This here is VOTED BEST BAND!!! They are an underrated rock talent in the Reno are, hailing from the rural community of Black Rock, NV. Inspired by the music of their now far off youth, they continue to play the anthems and dancing music that first sent them down the life of punk rock losers.
These Voted Best Band guys are seriously wasting their talent in this project, with pedigrees that include some of the mightiest Reno bands including The Vampirates, The Riptide Bandits, Suckapunch, Twelve Gauge Facelift and more. This kind of star power doesn’t just happen overnight. It takes years of meticulous study and rehearsal to write the kind of songs they do. Which is to say none.
This episode was a lot of fun and the boys came to play ball with the quiz. I forget everything that was said, but it was really funny. Bear with us, it felt like a slow start before it grew to our normal cacophony. But maybe that’s a good thing.
I don’t even know what I’m saying anymore. I rarely make sense. I doubt anyone is reading this.
Anyway – thanks for listening.
Wolpertinger – Late Like a Pregnancy Test – S3 E 34
I am so full of fail… again.
The Worst Little Podcast – Download Link – S3 E31
Wolpertinger in the studio! Who are Wolpertinger? Well, aside from including Gary Kephart, Wolfgang Price, Tommy “Cancer Survivior” Plunkett and Rich Washburn – listen to the show to find out more about the fantastic personalities that are Wolpertinger. What does Wolpertinger sound like – well, either listen to the show or check out Reverend Rory’s review of them in his most recent “100 Word Bias” column in the latest issue of Reno Tahoe Tonight!
I should really apologize to the guys from Wolpertinger for the lateness of htis podcast – Halloween really kicked all of our asses, with the Punkin Carving Party, the actual night of, friends’ birthdays, drinking heavily and all the other usual stuff. But I hope they can understand that no offense was meant – Dogwater Dick and Reverend Rory are just lazy assholes.
Well, I ought to sign off and work on the next podcast so that it’s not late – check out our next episode with Small Drawings!!!
Thanks for listening!
Actors Killed Lincoln – That One Unique Guy – S3 E33
Freakin’ computers!
The Worst Little Podcast – Download Link – S3 E30
Late post this week. GIANT tech switchover at the Dogwater Studios (Rick bought a new computer and is still working out the bugs) but we persevered! AND WERE TRIUPMHANT in the end. (Rick’s always triumphant in the end) We got Actors Killed Lincoln on the show this week. Well, most of em anyway… the REAL musicians of the band, Kent Irwin, Matt Kaminsky, Dan Lyons, Jenkins and Alan Kaminsky all showed up. Zach Reese, however had more IMORTANT things to do (like a competitive grad school program or gay sex). But they also persevered and were triumphant!!!
Actors Killed Lincoln threw down and played their bad-ass music in a bad-ass way. We talked a little about their upcoming CD release, which is already available online here. The show’s a little short this week, due to time constraints, so after a few songs we got right into the Worst Quiz in the World. With all five of them, it takes a while!
Well… I want to get this in your ears, so I’ll cut it short. Shout out to Reno Computer Fix for the assist in helping Rick get a great computer!
This is a great show. Really. Listen. Listen harder.
And, THANKS for listening.
Failure Machine – Entertainment Cattle – S3 E32
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere. Do you know where your drink is?
The Worst Little Podcast in the World – Download Link – S3 E29
Howdy, kiddos! Hope you’re having a great week!
Despite the fact that I still am wounded by the cold, bitter sting of him going out for a pack of cigarettes and never coming home, and he looks like Eddie Vedder mated with a brillo pad, we have the ONE AND ONLY Spencer, The Intern back on the show today! He brings with him, the always amazing Clint Philbin once more. In the fallout of The Big Bad, the two of them have teamed up to form the rocktastic and groove-makin’, Failure Machine. Two-man, distorted Motown covers and originals, they don’t need no stinkin’ band. They give us a bunch of double shots of songs and lay it down. You can follow them on Facebook or bandcamp if you want to check out some of what they do.
We also get down, if you will, with Murdoc Brickel. Murdoc comes to us from The Night Of Fetish and Fantasy(NOFF) 2013. Put on by the National Leather Association of Northern Nevada, this annual event is for fetishists, kinksters and sexy people of all levels and persuasions. Murdoc himself is a total freak and pervert. He kinda made the guys uncomfortable by being even MORE naked than Rev. Rory (who always wears nothing but a bow tie and a smile). But we had a lot of fun talking about the event that is THIS WEEKEND at Candela’s Nightclub.
Lots of fun stuff going this weekend in Reno/Sparks – Pumpkinpalooza, The Holland Project Cover Show, A Whiskey Social and lots more. Get out and enjoy your city!
Thanks for listening!
Brittany Straw – Hardcore Ukulele – S3 E31
Please put your seats in the upright position!
The Worst Little Podcast in the World – Download Link – S3 E28
Getting away from the metal this week with some pretty little ditties from the delightful and hot as balls gorgeous Brittany Straw. Britt is a powerful singer and a fun person. She and her ukulele filled the rooms of Dogwater Studios with some pretty music for a change. Only playing the uke for the last 10 months or so, Britt is a pretty accomplished songwriter with no need for covers – but she’s got some fun arrangements of those too! You can check them out throughout the show!
Don’t let her adorability fool you – this lovely lady put up some big scores on the Worst Little Quiz (and, yeah, she answered ALL the questions).
We also had a lot of plugs this week! We got a chance to talk to Dan Kimm, local hypnotist and therapist. A long-time Reno entertainer, Dan was a lot of fun to talk to and we may even get him in the studio sometime. Dan’s act is going to go up shortly after his good friend and funnyman Sean Peabody rocks the stage, makin’ you laugh yo asses off. Their show, brought to you by the Reno Tahoe Comedy Club is at the Pioneer Underground this Friday night. Doors at 7.
Reverend Rory also wants to remind you of two other great events this weekend. First, there is The Creative Coalition of Midtown’s Sounds Music Walk on Friday evening, starting at 5 and going as late as midnight at eateries, bars, stores and parking lots all over Midtown Reno. Get VIP tickets at the Melting Pot. Second is DRAG QUEEN BOXING at the Alley in Sparks, brought to you by PhillipBrownTV. Doors at 8:30. Need I say any fucking more?
We also do a little PSA for the 2013 Night of Fetish and Fantasy – good kinky fun – but more on that next week when we have a guest from the event, Murdoc Brickel, come in to talk about it.
That’s about all I know, folks! Sorry I get a little “ding” happy in the first part of the show.
Thanks for listening.
Countress – Drunk Metal – S3 E28
If you cannot heat this broadcast, please contact the program director!
Hey boys and girls! Sorry about the late podcast (and a big apology to Countress). The gods of technology and the internet conspired against us last week, pushing this post out a bit. We still love you and everything’s fine!!!!!
This week, we have the good men of Countress in the studio! Countress is a metal band in the Reno music scene that has been tearing it up for about a year. Their sound edges into punk and hardcore, but the boys maintain they’re nothing but a dirty metal band – you be the judge!
Countress has a busy schedule coming up here in the fall, so you have plenty of chances to check them out live. But if this podcast isn’t enough for you you can check them out on bandcamp and soundcloud.
Well, this week has been a shit show – I hope you enjoy THIS SHOW however. But I’m done. Glad to be back.
Thanks For Listening!
Infecto Skeletons – Refined, Relaxed and Retarded – S3 E27
Hey, did you know we actually still do a show?
Worst Little Podcast – Download Link – 2013 09 09
Hey boys and girls!!! Did you miss us? We missed you!!! We all had a great vacation this past August and are ready to hit the back third of the year with some awesome shows! Fist up to bat, we have the Infecto Skeletons, recent staple of the ReNO punk rock music market. These guys were out there a lot this spring and summer, smashing old skool punk rock into audience’s ears. Infecto Skeletons even just got off of a So-Cal mini-tour, branching out from Mother Reno.
We had a good time with them at the house and on the show. Maybe went a little overboard on the pre-party… we talked too much and then didn’t have anything to say on the show that was coherent. Go figure! On THIS show? But the boys in Infecto Skeletons put down some killer tracks that had me wishing I was drunk and at Shea’s with Felix or something, so I could blindly and drunkenly crash around the room to their dulcet tones.
Infecto Skeletons are Justin Minyard (vocals), Andrew Hockenberry (drums), Rash Kader (bass) and Mike Read (guitar). Aside from being a lot of fun to hang out with andd playing some great Reno punk rock music, they … uh… well, that’s about it really. I didn’t get that far in the interview – got distracted by the Worst Little Quiz and the epic battle for Last Place.
If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, we have really only two events we want to draw your attention to (Infecto Skeletons is playing at neither of them). First is on Friday at the Public House – Lend Jimi Damone a Hand – more info on the event to help Jimi Damone who recently suffered a debilitating accident in the show and on the event page. You can also donate to the cause at the Jimi Damone GiveForward page, where they have raised nearly 1/3 of their goal.
Also Sunday, please join Nick Ramirez at the Artist’s Lofts for a fundraiser for his cat, Loopy Lupe – listen and read, people, listen and read.
And don’t forget the Blazing Mics every Monday at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor, brought to you by the Worst Little Podcast!
As always, my friends, Thanks For Listening – see you next week!
