S8 E30

Hello! Welcome to the award winning (I’m going to milk that for all it’s worth) Worst Little Podcast! It’s been a couple of weeks since our last show and we’re a little rusty, but we’re back and excited to welcome Outlaw Kindred to the podcast for the first time. We’ve got some crazy stories and even crazier banjo music. This is a good one, folks, so press play!

Josiah Knight and Olaf Vali Duna of Reno folk band Outlaw Kindred posing with their instruments.

Outlaw Kindred

Outlaw Kindred is an Outlaw Folk/Grass band. Featuring Olaf Vali Duna on Banjo and Josiah Knight on Guitar. Playing Country Barn Stomping Hay Burners! The two met years ago in Northern California, before the beards! It’s safe to say they’re the only two people in Reno who know what each others faces actually look like. They’re one of Reno’s most solid duo’s and this girls favorite. Be sure to catch them in Reno next during Off Beat Music Fest, happening November 8th through 10th. We’ll let you know exact dates and times soon!

This week make sure to get out and do something! Here’s where we’ll be. Okay, here’s where your resident party girl, Kadillac Kim will be:

Thursday – Everyone’s favorite monthly folk showcase is back this week with Loud As Folk: Greg Rekus/Paige Beller/John Underwood/Chris Fox at Pignic 8PM 21+ $5 to benefit Sierra Arts

Friday – Silver + Pink Awful at TLC. 8PM 21+ $10

Saturday – Young Frankenstein at Good Luck Macbeth 7:30 PM 21+ $20/25

Sunday – Sunday Services at HQ Bar featuring Dashell Milligan 7PM 21+ $5

Thanks to Josiah and Olaf for being on the show this week! It was so great. We can’t wait to see you out there. Thanks to everyone else for listening. Life is short and we love you. We will be back next week with our friends from Lake Tahoe, The Habituals!

S8 E10

Welcome to the Worst Little Podcast. We’re live from the recent, snowy past this week for our third installment of our Women’s March shows with The Grimtones! For the first time ever our awesome intern Shrek got to hang out in studio A with Nick and Kim! Congrats on making it across the hallway, Shrek! This week we’re asking important questions like: are you still friends with her and is she going to listen to this podcast? Tune in for fat, sweaty, German brats, botched circumcisions, and punk rock battle wounds (RIP, Alise’s ankle). But MOST IMPORTANTLY, there’s some badass music from one of Reno’s strongest lady musicians.

Michelle Bell of the Grimtones playing her guitar at Dogwater Studios.

The Grimtones! Carter – Drums; Young Nick – Bass; Michelle – Vocals and Guitar

The Grimtones spend their days cookin’ hot dogs, snorting kool-aid, fumblin’ about on yee plotter, and recording music. You can see Michelle, Carter, and young Nick, March 31st at Shea’s. They’re currently hard at work recording their new album at Dogwater Studios.

Thanks for the clap, Carter, and thanks to the Grimtones for being such excellent guests! Next week we have guest host Mikey Ramirez from The Shames joining us to interview Rachel McElhiney of Failure Machine and Alise Corbin of SWIGS for our final week of Women’s March shows!

Carter – Drums, with Old “Silver Fox” Nick Ramirez

Thanks for listening to another week of us getting drunk with our friends and thanks to Shrek for being hilarious. Life is short and we love ya, Reno.

Jonathan Rolling – Completely Half-Naked – S7 E9

I love it when a plan comes together…

The Worst Little Podcast S7 E8 – Download Link

This week our hosts are hanging out half naked (you get to picture which half) in the studio with Reno favorite Jonathan Rolling. It’s not a matter of temperature – it’s a matter of comfort. Listen up to hear Jonathan not finish any sentences get deep about how he makes the magic happen.

Jonathan Rolling – Reno Singer-Songwriter

Go see Jonathan, guest hosting Foxy First Friday this week, April 7th with Brendon Lund of Silver. Follow Jonathan on Facebook to stay up to date on his upcoming tour and be sure to stream his album on Spotify. Good News and Bad News, everyone!

The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E33

Key, kids! What’s up?!? It’s a fantastic week over here at the palatial Dogwater Studios. The good news is that Evil Dead: The Musical has completely sold out the run of the show – you’ll have to catch us in 2015 if you didn’t see it yet. The bad news is that The Annual Dogwater Punkin’ Carving Party is cancelled this year. Dogwater Dick wants to take one year in 20 off, so we guess that’s fair.

In the long and storied tradition of the show, we picked up a guy at the open mic to play on the show. Angel Garcia, Reno musician and singer, joins us this week to rattle out some of his songs on the innerwebs. Garcia has actively been playing music in Reno for the last year or so, typically as a solo act, but also with a few bands. Prior to Northern Nevada, he was in SoCal, where he gained the moniker “Toxicblinds” as a DeeJay. Despite his rough and freakish exterior, Angel sings like… (not gonna say it!) a pretty pop star. It’s not exactly bubblegum punk rock, but he shure dew have a purty voice.

Angel Garcia looking tough

Angel Garcia – hardcore emo

Early in the show, we take a phone call with Reno’s own #1 female comedian, Jenny PezDeSpencer! Jenny is having another live show at Jub Jub’s on November 8 that she wants you to go to. Her sets are raucous and awesome and delightfully offensive. Take a chance! Be a part of a live comedy album and chekkit out.

In a surprise move, “Magic” Larry Cooper drops by the studio and sits in with us for a whole to tell us about his new album that he’s been recording with Dogwater Dick. Larry’s a dick. He totally hijacks Angel’s show and gets really drunk and breaks stuff. At least he pays his dues and takes part in the quiz.

Don’t forget, in the spirit of the season, come check out the Rocky Horror Extravaganza with music by Pinky Polanski and hosted by Thee Reverend Rory Dowd. Tickets will go fast for them, so get them online now or at the Whitney Peak main desk. Happening on Halloween 10/31/14 there is an all ages show at 8pm and an all adults show at midnight

What say ye, weary traveler?

The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E 23 – Download Link!

Holy crap, it’s hot as fuck in Reno, despite the fairly unprecedented 4 days of serious rain in a row. Hope you all are keepin’ cool and pulling a Saturday Night Fever! Whoo! In Studio this week, we have Bill McKean and Zeke Griffin from Strange on the Range, a Reno blues/Americana/Blurgrass BLUEgrass band. No. Hell with It – They are Blurgrass. Made that shit up just now I did. Bill plays guitar and Zeke plays Mandilins. Actually, he freaking makes the suckers. Custom and cool and – damn!

Bill McKean - Guitar for Strange on the Range

Bill McKean – Upright and confused

Strange on the Range is a featured act at The Morris Burner Hotel’s Reno Folk Festival, happening this weekend as a part of Artown. If you haven’t been to a show at the Morris yet, you are missing out on a whole lot of what’s happening in the Reno art and performance worlds. Three days of folk music, a trip backwards in time, covering current era, the 60s, and traditional roots of folk music, as a tribute to Pete Seeger, who died earlier this year.

Zeke Griffin - Mandolin for Strange on the Range

Zeke Griffin – MANdolin’

Jill Marlene, event organizer, also joins us partway through the episode and joins the guys on a couple songs. It’s , once again, a fun episode, but it got hot in the studio. It’s hot now. I’m done.

Thanks for listening.

Siddown and listen up!

The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E20 It’s another fine week in the Biggest Little and I hope you’re out enjoying the fantastic weather! This week we are very happy to welcome Chari Boom Brap into the studio. Chari is one of the movers and shakers in the Reno spoken word and hip hop circles. If you don’t already know her name, you should, because she makes it happen. Featured prominently as the front woman for Knowledge Lives Forever for the past few years, Chari brings tracks from her own new solo project, Download This, on the show with us. Her words run deep.

Chari Smith smiling for the camera

Ckari Smith, aka Knowledge

Chari Boom Brap is as nice as she is hardworking as she is deep thinking. Fortunately, all of her hard work has not gone unnoticed. Chari is happy to announce that this week she is the first rapper to ever be awarded an Artist’s Fellowship from the Nevada Arts Council. This is not small accomplishment and you know she faced some steep competition to be honored with this award. We’re happy to congratulate her on this and you should too.  Chari Boom Brap is a hot commodity and has a lot of Reno pride – hopefully some of us will get to ride her coattails one day.

Grant

The steely gaze of JB the Intern

We would also like to congratulate Nate the Intern. He has been promoted to Nathan the Production Assistant! Rick for one looks forward to his continuing work behind the scenes here at WLP. But what would our show be without an intern and whipping boy?? We bring you the next in a long line of losers, JB the Intern!!! JB had a rocky start, batting about .500 in task accomplishments. Listen in this week, because if all goes well, this will be the last time you hear his voice for a while.   Thanks for Listening!

Rock and roll hoochie koo all over your gabba gabba hey! Rigorous Proof, early guests of the show, come back this week and kick the roof off, reminding us why they’re still a successful rock band in Reno. Johnny Harpo, Adam Landis, Jesse Gaddis and Wes Forester rejoin us in the studio.

Johnny Harpo, singer and guitar player

Johnny Harpo

The Worst Little Podcast in the World would like to take this time to officially endorse Bob and Mike Grimm for Co-Mayors of Reno. Although they didn’t make it in the free for all primary (finishing with -3 votes), they still remain viable write-in candidates with a platform, WLP can really stand on.

Adam Landis, keyboard player

Adam Landis

In case you’ve missed them, Rigorous Proof is a 4 piece rock funk band here in the Washoe County. Having gone through some name and lineup changes in the past four years, they are back together as the original band with a whole new set of songs, polished to a sharp keen.  Having laid low for a while, they’ve been writing and recording a new album, due out later this year. This episode teases some of their new songs.

Jesse Gaddis, bassist for Rigorous Proof

Jesse Gaddis

This weekend, please join me at Evil Dead: The Musical: The Reno Edition Freak Show Fundraiser. We are putting together funds to help bring this show to Reno in October, coinciding with our Indiegogo campaign. Featuring sideshow and varietal entertainment, this show will wow the socks off you. Come see mentalism, acts representing the peak of physical control,  dancing ladies, escapistry and feats of musicianchip, including Lacey Mattison, Cody Canon, Alphabet Cult, The Shames and Pinky Polanski performing the songs of Rocky Horror Picture Show!!! Only $7 – and we have a raffle with great prizes including tattoo gift certificates, cheesecake, a thirty second commercial  and more!

Dang! I missed it!

The Worst Little Podcast – S4 E18 – Download link

Hey dudes and dudettes! I hope you’re ready for a great show! We have a brand new band on the show. Introducing: THE GRIMTONES! Michelle Belle and Carter Stellon, formerly of Scarlet Presence, come into the studio to show off their shiny new songs and impress us with how growed up they are! Seriously, these kids are sick talented. I AM JEALOUS OF THEM!!!!!

Carter Stellon squinting his eyes

Carter’s turning Japanese, turning Japanese, I really think so

Unfortunately, Rev. Rory was unable to make it to the show (AGAIN!) so Nick really prepared this time and captained a great show this week. I can’t wait to actually listen to it! Chewie, of course, is still in the house and moved up a notch. Dogwater Dick and Nate the Intern are alsu, as usual, dismissed to Studio B, here at Dogwater Studios. But I know for a fact that Dick loves recording with these two, so I’m sure he didn’t mind just listening to The Grimtones.

Michelle Belle sticking her tounge out

Michelle’s not helping…. or is she?

At any rate, I’m going to stop blogging and get to listening to the show while I prep for my own shows this weekend. Come Check out Reverend Rory and Nick Ramirez at the re-inaugural First Fridays at Foxy Olive. Rory is taking over where Eric Foreman left off and Nick is his first guest too! Should be a great show. You can also catch Reverend Rory at Tronix  this Saturday as the sole musical entertainment at the NNNLA’s Impact, a fetish exhibition and demo.

Hey, kids! It’s a loud talky show from the beginning on, but TEMPO – Adam Springob, Glynn Osburn and Misha Bardashov – steps up to the challenge and delivers some really kick ass music. Despite their rookie status as a band, these seasoned and talented musicians put together a really polished sound.

Glynn Osburn - bass for TEMPO

Glynn Osburn

TEMPO has played a number of big shows and with a lot of local headliners in the past few months. They are looking forward to a hopefully busy season of show playing this summer after they finish recording their EP cassette tape. Oh, yeas.

Adam Springob - singer and guitar for TEMPO

Adam Springob

Lots of great stuff coming up in the next few weeks! Including Jenny Pez DeSpencer’s live comedy album recording and Monsters and Elves, hosted by Reverend Rory Dowd, both on Saturday May 31. Further out, Rev. Rory will be doing a one hour ‘variety show’ at the NNNLA’s Impact 2014 at Tronix on June 7 and hosting the Vaud Villan Freak Show, a fundraiser for Evil Dead The Musical The Reno Edition  at Jub Jub’s on June 14! Also in studio is Jenny PezDespencer, talking about her upcoming comedy show at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor. She will be recording a live album at this show, so it’s going to be a lot of fun! Listen in for the BIG CONTEST to win tickets to this live comedy album recording of Jenny PezDespencer, one of our favorite Reno comics.

We3 also have a brief phone call with next week’s guests, Dan Harmann and Ky Alfred Hillig. Both hail from Washington and will be playing at St. James Infirmary on Monday 5/19, just after coming onto the podcast to record with us! Fun guys on the phone, we can’t wait to hang out and give them the Worst Little Quiz next week – they’ll have no idea (unless they read this. which they won’t.) Take a sec to chekkout their music ans stop by the show!

10 years of LOVE - Marianarchy - May 16 & 17 2014

Finally, lets not forget about this weekend – MARIANARCHY X – Friday, May 16th and Saturday May 17th. 30+ bands in two days! We’ve been raising money for 10 years to help out our Reno family and artists and non-profits, in honor of the late Marianne Psota, with huge support from the community. THis year’s beneficiaries are Keely Davis, a little girl with Down’s Syndrome, and Emily Reese, Reno teacher and personality on the Reno Tahoe Tonight Show on Nevada Matters and Renegade Radio, who was recently diagnosed with cancer after already having beaten it into submission. As we say around Maryanarchy, “Fuck Your Cancer!”, and now “Fuck Your Syndrome” joins the catalogue of Jub-isms. It is going to be another great show this year. Please come out and help us make a difference in someone’s life, once again.
