Welcome, Contestants! Thanks for joining us once again. If you haven’t noticed, the COVID crisis has had an effect on the show – namely, they are late and much less verbose. We normally tried to get shows out before the weekend, to help promote the venues and live happenings. As that is much less of a priority these days, we are now going to just be publishing the shows on Mondays. There’s been shifts in all of our lives and it’s really much simpler to publish them on Monday. AND I promise to do my best to have something to say, even if it’s nonsensical, even if I’m feeling run-down and not up to it. (I hope somebody reads these. It’s the closest I’ve got to legitimate writing publication in the last 5 years.) Anywhoo….

Steve Funk, Reno radio legend, in a multi-colored shirt playing a bass guitar.
Steve Funk

Joining us this week is a voice any Renoite knows from infancy: the talented and gregarious Godfather of Reno Rock, Mr. Steve Funk. Steve took some time out of his busy travel schedule to stop in and- just kidding, It’s another Zoom Room show!! We did have a blast talking to Steve about his experiences in radio and music in Reno over the last few decades. The only problem was – not enough time!!! We had to force ourselves to stop talking so we could listen to the songs! (ok- like the pro he is, Steve Funk drove the bus for Rev. Rory and showed him how it’s done, even with a busted Winnebago like this show. Don’t worry, we’ll have him back)

Additionally, Steve brings us a sampling of his own original music over the years, including a little ditty about Reno that you’ll just have to listen to hear more about.

Stay safe. Wear your damn mask. “Don’t trust Whitey.”

Thanks for listening

Hi, friends. What else can I say, but welcome to Flight 2020, cruising at an altitude of 35,000 feet. If you look out your window from either side of the plane, you can see the iconic “W.T.F” rising from the surrounding hell-scape in 200-ft tall burning letters.

It’s hard to find the energy for levity in this trying time, but we can always find the love. We start this weeks show off with a Marianarchy recap – over $11,000 raised for the Masud family. Pretty fucking amazing, Reno; good job. Online options will definitely be a future component of the fundraiser.

Somehow, we drift into vitamins and diet regimens, and basically sound like a bunch of old dying guys. Oh! Music this week is provided by Dogwater Studios/Cherrybear Records’ “Undiscovered” series: live cuts of up-and-coming area acts dating back to 2012.

And of course we also talk at some length the end of the world … or at least about the events nationally and locally in the aftermath of the public murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis PD. Or comments are taken from Monday 6/1 and our unedited conversation is responding to the events of the prior weekend, including the peaceful protests and riotous conflicts. It would be an understatement to say that we are all dismayed by the continued violence and abusive treatment of Black Americans and all POC at hands of law enforcement of all varieties throughout the US. We do believe Black Lives Matter, as a concept and as a movement. We have a small platform, but we are a part of the chorus standing up for equity and egalitarianism for all citizens. We are allies in the struggle for justice. #sayhisname #georgefloyd #blacklivesmatter #takeaknee

Marianarchy – Aftermath – S10 E18

Hi, folks. Sorry no show this week. Between some technical hurdles and the exhaustion from the backstage work of the first virtual Marianarchy, we just couldn’t get it together this week.

However, if you missed it you can still watch all 5+ hours of footage, past and present. The preshow was footage of past years’ Marianarchies – 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2019 mainly – compiled by David Richards (“Nowhere Nevada”) and edited by Jason Charles Smith (Active Alliance).

Marianarchy 2020 Vision: A Look Back

This year’s Marianarchy is a benefit for Sharon “Sherry” Masud, mother of good friend of the show and Reno musician and promoter, Dave Masud (Vampirates, Jub Jub’s). She suffered a stroke in October. You can read about the details on their GoFundMe page. At the time of this posting, they are just a few hundred short of their $10,000 goal. Really proud of you right now, Reno community.

We are also taking Memorial Day off, so have a great holiday. Watch the show a couple times. Hope you get all your checks, remember to send in your mail-in vote, Nevada, wash your hands and wear a mask.

Is this thing on?

Hello again ladies and gentlemen. You’ll have to forgive my brevity. I am at this time slaving away in the internet mines, trying to get Marianarchy XVI all set up for you for our first virtual fundraiser. It’s very exciting, but very intense and time consuming.

We talk a lot about the event on the show, and some of the details have changed in the ensuing 3 days, so follow the links and chekkitout. if you’d like to donate or find out more, follow the link to the GoFundMe Page.

Marianarchy XVI

This week on the show, we are happy to have SIX TIME guest, Mr. Vague himself: Mark Earnest. A multitalented journalist, musician and songwriter, Mark brings with him some great music from both of his bands, Kanawha and Vague Choir. Mark is a repeat Marianarchist as well, appearing in both the main event and the look back at years past.

Gotta go – links to check, SEO copy to write and videos to upload.

We hope you see us this weekend.

Fear not the musical desert of the plague!

Loud As Folk – whirled wide and international

We have the great pleasure of bringing back Spike McGuire this wee. Not only does Spike offer up a selection of great original tunes, but he’s keeping the entertainment train going on the internet. If you didn’t already catch it, Loud As Folk streamed their broadcast this past week. Always ahead of the game, McGuire is joined by Greg Gilmore in bringing you the latest in new homemade acoustic music. You can still check out the feed through the link.

Noble Pie

We finally get around to correcting a wrong this week – in his debut appearance, we finally have Ryan Goldhammer of Pignic Pub’n’Patio and Noble Pie (Original and Midtown) on the show. Ryan is not only part of the team behind those eateries, but is also a longtime supporter of the Reno music scene and co-conspirator with Spike. We chat with him a bit about the challenges of running a local business during the time of COVID.

Welcome back to the Worst Little Podcast! I’m so excited about this week’s guests!

Matthew Howlett (photo: Kylie Mosbacher)

Former Reno resident, Matthew Howlett, joins us this week from his home recording studio and childhood bedroom! Not content to let no stinkin’ plague keep him down – no! Matthew is recording and creating and releasing new content! Virtuall collaborations and Spotify tracks, oh my!

Andrew Dicus in the Big City

Our second guest is a former Reno native that you might recognize from past Reno bands like The Spark and Sophie and the Probiotics, Mister Andrew Dicus. A Reno-famous multi-talented artist, Dicus left us a number of years ago to get edumacated and is now successfully living in Brooklyn as an illustrator.

He recently has published a collection of his cartoons, “The Kings Highway“, through Baobab Press. It is available wherever indie books are sold (like Sundance Books – you can even get it online!) He was supposed to have come to Reno as part of a NATIONAL BOOK TOUR, but then this thing happened and he couldn’t leave Brooklyn. (So, I consider this Leg One of Dicus’ Nevada Media Junket. Very successful.)

The actual cover

See you next week with Spike McGuire of Loud As Folk and Ryan Goldhammer of Pignic and Noble Pizza.

Getting back to our roots!

Podcasting through the quarantine hasn’t been easy. Along with any technical difficulties, life still keep happening. We have to reschedule our planned guest this week due to LIFE. So, we pulled out the old box of records and tapes in Chewie’s studio to bring you some reverberations of Reno’s vibrant musical past!

A silouette of a radio tower with a man carrying another man in a dress up the side of it, superinposed on a red arrow pointing down with "The Worst Little Podcast in the World" also superimposed in white prints of differing fonts.

We chat about our lives during quarantine and how much doing the show without Kim is a drag. In between, everyone picked a local fave to play: Dirty Steve, Green Mondays, Gunshot Licker, Jesse Kapeghian, Sage’s Fire and The Atomiks,

We will be back next week with our good buddy, singer-songwriter Matthew Howlett; an old friend, the multitalented illustrator Andrew Dicus; and – KADILLAC KIM is back!!!

Again, thank you to Zoom, stay healthy, keep busy, eat out at a local restaurant… and thanks for listening!
