Can you believe that? No one has made us stop bringing you awesome Reno music every week! (No one pays us for it either, but that’s another story.) From Nick, Rick, Chewie, Mr. Baker, the intern gang, and myself, we truly thank you for lending us your ears every week. It’s been a lot of fun and we hope to keep on doing it long past it’s relevancy. But today! Today we ARE relevant!
The young men Common Mishap are our first guests of this new season. Common Mishap, a Reno indie rock band, is Callum Burgener (git/vox), Mike Leland (bass), Colin Willis(git) and Garrett (drum). All battle born and Reno-bred, Common Mishap is a throwback to the basement shows of yesteryear (the 90’s…. or last year if you live in Reno) with complicated melodies and screaming angst and titles that have nothing to do with the pretty musics. (Really good stuff, actually)
They were actually a Dogwater Dick find. He went out of his way to connect Callum with the Rev, which is saying something. So we weren’t sure if they were hot, dumb punk rockers or what. We were pleasantly surprised when they turned out to be a bunch of perverted heathens with good music.
On the younger side of 21, these guys are actively looking to get out of the basements and into the venues. They recently had a successful show at Holland with some out of town bands. Common Mishap does not have much of an online presence as of yet – they have a Twitter and a bandcamp… and a facebook page with a whole lotta nothing. You can also listen to their full length album on Spotify, which is pretty nifty. (It was good walking music the other day.) I hope to see more of them in 2017 and beyond.

Join Reverend Rory and Jeff Done at Foxy First Friday this week. It should be a good ass time.
Thanks for listening!

I try not to be jaded, but let’s face it – I’ve been watching bands in bars or basements for 25+ years, most of that in Reno. A lot of bands walk down the same tracks, no? But like All of us I genuinely love NEW music; music that defies generalization and genre, pigeon-holes and styles; music that hits me in the face like a big, wet fish. LAIDEEZ AND GENNELMEN! For our LAST EPISODE OF SEASON 6! I present for your listening enjoyment: PINK AWFUL!
Pink Awful is an indie-noise-rock band out of Reno NV. It’s a little hard to pin down; they have a lot of obvious and subtle musical influences ranging from – frankly – the 50s to the 90s. With the technical proficiency and musical knowledge of al the members, they can help but be stinkin’ good. Pink Awful is: Ashley Costelloe, Vocals; Mike Miller, Guitar/Vox; Bernie Paterson, Guitar/Vox; Emily Dunster, Bass; Brendan Dalton, Drums. And when I say they are “stinkin’ good”, I mean they are really effing talented with on-point musical proclivities.
They say they don’t have any shows lined up because – well, listen to the show, and they’ll tell you. But I think It’s really mostly that the Reno scene just doesn’t know yet – that people don’t KNOW that they NEED to hear this band. Reno, welcome to a new favorite addiction – Pink Awful! hit up that FB page and make them book a show! (maybe May Marianarchy ?!?!?)
This weekend is the celebration of Marshall Compton’s life at the Morris Burner Hotel. I mean it when I say – life is short and I love you.
Next week is the start of Season & and February First Friday at Foxy Olive with Jeff Done. I hope to see you peoples out and about.
Thanks For Listening.
