Well played, fuckos, well played.
This is a great episode. We had a lot of fun with Six Mile Station promoting their upcoming shows. But there is a special treat! Something you have to listen to. See what Six Mile Station had in store for Thee Reverend Rory and Chewie.
Just Nick Ramirez wasn’t able to make it – he was too busy rocking out with his band, The Liver Scars, and Cadaver Dogs down at the always entertaining Shea’s Tavern. Killer time – and you probably missed it!
I don’t wanna waste any of your time so you can just get to the show. Here are some more pictures of the band:
Thanks for listening!!!
Another seamless performance!
Drummers? They Don’t need no stinking drummer – they’s the Six Mile Station and they’ve got a ton of strings! Six Mile Station is prety killer. Spike McGuire on guitar and vocals, Tyson Schroeder on the stand up bass and backing vocals, Alán Burtón on mandolin and vocals, and Nathan Carter on the fiddle, all to kick your ASS with folk music. When it comes to catchy and harmony, they don’t fuck around. They play three songs for us and sneak a peek at a track from their new album.
In other news, comedian Justin Rupple will be returning to the Reno Tahoe Comedy Club in the Pioneer Underground this weekend. Please check him out – funny guy, funny impressions, funny lookin’. Chewie is with us again, but relegated to the back room because of the awesome of Six Mile Station. The Rev is clueless, Nick the voice of reason, and Dogwater Dick: still gay.
We had a lot of fun this week. Thanks for listening!
Friends are the best!
What happens when you and a band have a last-minute scheduling conflict? You call your dumb friends and beg them to come on your show. Luckily, we had Mr. Matt Waage in our corner. We had a great time with Matty in the Dogwater Studios… but I’m not sure he knew he was being recorded. He kept playing his guitar while we were talking, going off on random tangents and making weird noises with his mouth. Normal Matt, I suppose. What was great though, for anyone who’s had the pleasure of catching Matt over the years, was LISTENING TO MATT SING WITHOUT ALL THE FUCKING DELAY ON HIS VOICE! Matt has a pretty and powerful voice and range. Go figure. I figured all the processing was to hide something awful. No. He’s shy. Pussy.
In other news, Nick cleans up real good! Check out the picture above – doesn’t he look all… 22 or something? He and Candyshoppe spent all weekend in the studio. You can check out the videos here along with behind the scenes WLP videos. The album is completed, minus mastering and packaging and making them, so look forward to that at the end of the summer. Although, wouldn’t it be funny if Candyshoppe released their first CD (Glitterbox) before Big Remote (Jenkins)? Ah, I make me laugh.
Also – I have to give a shout out to Matt Weigand, winner of the first semifinal round of the Reno Tahoe Comedy contest. It was a pretty good night and he killed it! If you want to see good local comedy, check out the next semifinals on June 18 at the Pioneer Underground.
I think there was something else I wanted to say… but I forget.
Thanks for listening!
OH YEAH! Check out Matt hosting the open mic at Strega, every Sunday night!
I didn’t want to get out of bed today. But then I would have missed this awesome show.
We almost had a GREAT show. But once again Matty didn’t answer the phone when we tried to make a What’s Matty Drinking call. Ruined the whole show. Sorry. As a consolation prize we are pleased to be offering
free bro-jobs the musical stylings of The Hardways! Jesse Easter, Spike McGuire, Tyson Schroeder and Stephen Sperber visit the slum that passes for Rick’s house fabulously hi-tech Dogwater Studios for some good times and cheap beers.
As is our wont, we had them play some songs for us (why else do you listen?) that blew us away. Don’t let the vacant stares and mullets fool you – these guys are effing RIPPERS. And
a bunch of foulmouthed bastards the friendliest gents you could ever bring home to meet the parents, ladies – especially that Tyson. He sure is a smooth talker!
If you want to catch The Hardways at a theater near you, you’re going to have to wait until March. To tide you over, check out their first album, Perpetual Motion on the iTunes store. It should keep your toes tapping until you go see them live. If you’re looking for a really great show right now – check out the Winter Music Series at The Alley, on Thursday night. This week is the ‘Nick Ramirez Spectacular’, featuring Candyshoppe, Hella A Cappella Reno, Na Na Nonchalant, Present & The LetDowns. It should be a pretty bitchin’ show. I’m going to be there. Nick probably will be there. It would be nice to see you!
Nick’s Journal is strangely quiet this week (thank gawd…); Rick is swamped with recording bands; and Chewie, well, he’s been busy being a dad. Me? Rory? Well, I’m here with you one the innerwebz trying to make sense of my life. I hope you have a great week.
Ans thanks for listening.
