Sometimes you just don’t want to have to listen to a whole show. Sometimes we have problems with scheduling. Sometimes we all want to be lazy. The first week of Feb is a great lazy week. So we decided to give you guys one of our bonus shows – a Best Of! This one was picked out and edited by Dogwater Dick himself. I have no idea of what’s on it yet. He mentions the most shocking quizzes, Andy 86 and The Letdowns, but I really hope there’s more than just that. Or maybe it’s perfect!

You can find us now on Blubrry and Stitcher!

Reverend Rory’s Picks for the weekend of 2/8 and 2/9:

1)FRIDAY – Elephant Rifle Tour Kick-off at 40-Mile Saloon
2)SATURDAY – 5th Annual Vampire Crawl all over Reno
3)SATURDAY – Vague Choir, Seas & Centuries and PostWar at Lincoln Lounge

And don’t forget to check out our sponsors!

NEW SEASON!! GAME ON!!!!

Worst Little Podcast – DOWNLOAD LINK – S3 E1

Welcome to Season Three of The Worst Little Podcast in the World! So, yeah, we have Max Volume of the Max Volume Band and on-air personality for KOZZ on the show. But first, just like in the episode – we have a phone call with Mr. Bobby Slayton! Thanks to our connections at The Reno Tahoe Comedy Club, we were able to spend a good 20 minutes talking to “The Pitbull of Comedy”. Well, talking to Bobby Slayton  might be an exaggeration – listening to him bust Rev. Rory’s chops and lie talk about how much he likes Reno is more like it. He’s a pro and really came to play. Great opening segment. Be sure to catch Bobby Slayton at The Pioneer Underground THIS Friday and Saturday night where he’ll be appearing with a bunch of local comics including friends of the show Jenny PezDeSpencer, Pat Shillito and Matt Wiegand!

Max Volume with a big grin holding an acoustic guitar while on The Worst Little Podcast at The Dogwater Studios.

Max Volume having a good time on the other side of the mic.

We had a lot of fun with Max on the show. A great talent and a staple of Reno radio for years, he’s a blast to sit and talk to – hearing him namedrop all the famous people you and I will never meet – mostly because he’s old as dirt and they’re all dead!! Man, good times! Or those times when he played one of FOUR BRAND NEW SONGS!!! That’s right – Worst Little Podcast exclusive recordings of Max Volume. And you thought we’d forgotten our promises! Here we are two years later, still delivering the goods!

Max Volume tuning up his acoustic guitar in an image that is blurred, except for his face.

A face built for radio!

We’d also like to welcome on board our brand new sponsors, Reno Computer Fix. Justin and Ian over there are pretty awesome guys, supporting the arts in Reno with gallery space in a techie repair shop and keeping our computers running. Part of the Wells Avenue crew, they’re near everybody, so please check them out and mention that you heard about them from us! And while I’m on the subject of sponsors – check out Waking Girl Web Design if you need design, content or social media coordination or consultation.  OK – between Bobby Slayton, Max Volume, Reno Computer Fix and Waking Girl, I think that’s enough shameless plugs for one post. Oh, and Jub Jub sez – “Fuck your podcast!”

What a way to end a year!

Do you trust this smile?

We’re wrapping things up with some great momentum this year. It took me all year to remember to book the young men of CRUSH on the podcast. Daniel, Jimmy and Aaron stopped by to grace us with an acoustic set of their techno-rock-dubstep-pop. Not only did they and their awesome three-part harmonies kill it, but they came to have fun. We really didn’t have to ask many questions; the boys took the conversation wherever they wanted it. And that was mostly talking about pot. Pot and not getting laid.

Jimmy Dunn of CRUSH in a yellow and black shirt smiling at the camera.

He always seemed like such a nice boy…

From Walden’s to the Knitting Factory to the Alley, CRUSH can pack the house with more teenagers than any other party band in town. Mostly because they themselves are fresh out of HS, and diligently applying themselves to the College of Rock and Roll! All joking aside, with two full-length CDs under their belt, they are serious about being working musicians and have the chops to prove it. Even in an acoustic set, their tight songwriting and performance skills shine through. PLUS they are the favorite local band of Rikku, who recorded them a special message-song that we play at the top of the show.

All about the pieces

Also in studio is everyone’s favorite potty mouth – Jenny PezDeSpencer!!! Yeah, Jenny’s back, bigger than life and killing it.

Comedian Jenny PezDeSpencer trying to swallow a microphone on The Worst Little Podcast 2012 01 21

She’s just not trying hard enough…

Jenny is working hard at hardly working. She has a slew of shows this very weekend. Friday night she is opening up for national comedian Ramsey Moore at The Knitting Factory. Saturday, you can catch her at the Reno Tahoe Comedy Club at Pioneer Underground with  Thai Rivera who you can catch on Comedy Central specials. Sunday, she’ll probably be hungover or at Red Rock comedy night. Or both. Probably both.

One final note – we’d like to welcome newest whipping boy, John Frederick, to the cast. He’ll be working under Dogwater Dick for a while. He’ll also be learning about live recording and podcasting and stuff. (See what I did there?) That’s all for now….

Elsie After All.... flyer

Lots of laughs, little drinking and a brand new theme song this episode! Our second season might be winding down, but we’re still coming at you full force! This week we have musical powerhouse, John Frederick, and photographer/model, Elsie Marie, in studio with us. We forgot to take pictures this week so you’ll have to make do with acual nice photos of our guests from their respective FB pages. Elsie was a guest on our show last year and has had a crazy year of becoming a spokesmodel and Reno Tahoe Tonight contributor, being super involved with photography and the Reno culture, AND undergoing a series of surgeries! That’s right – surgeries, as in plural. Listen to the mid segment of the show to find out more about her trials and tribulations. There is a benefit for her that you MAY have heard about – Elsie After All – that will be this Saturday Jan 19 at Swill Coffee and Wine (6pm-9pm) and Chapel Tavern (10pm-2am).

Reno NV photographer and model. Elsie Marie, in a red sparkly dress head on palms, elbows on knees.

John Frederick is one of the featured performers of the event at Swill, AND a super new friend. This guy is amazing and fun and talented. He’s got his fingers in theater, and music, and organizing, and …other stuff! Really, even fighting off a creepin’ crud, Frederick has a killer full sound in his singing voice. He played a bunch of originals, including – that’s right – a WLP EXCLUSIVE listen to a brand new song that had no name, but now it does (because we just give and give ande give here on the podcast).

John Frederick promo picture - black and white wearing a hat with the label 'johnfrederickmusic.com' vertically on the right side

We also MISS a phone call from BJ Johnson, Washington-based comedian that will be appearing at the Reno Tahoe Comedy Club this Friday and Saturday night. Once we get this phone thing worked out, we promise the phone interviews will be better! We also have an Open Mic roll call that is completely confusing – see if you can keep up, there will be a quiz next week.

Anyways… Thanks for Listening!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS, MOTHERFUCKERS!

Ashley!

I’m not going to get into it this week. We have Rikku in the studio and Ashley Polanski, local thespian and performer, to talk about Good Luck MacBeth and their new location. (The Dr. Sketchy thing was actually last night… so… whoops). Rikku sings soem songs, forces us to sing with her, then sings some more as we talk inappropriately over her head.

Rikku and Uncle Nicky

Listen to the show. Get drunk. Have warm fuzzys and hold the person you love tight.
I’m going to be thinking about a girl in Portland that I miss and drinking a steaming glass of whiskey.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Rory, Rick, Nick, Josh, Spencer, Shaun and all of our families.
We do all this for you and couldn’t do it without you!

Weirdos….

We took a week off last week in light of the national tragedy – too many voices yelling in your ear. But here we are, back on schedule with:

The Worst Little Podcast – Download Link – S2 E38

BETTY ROCKER!!

Betty Rocker

We kept off the interwebz last week, given the national tragedy and a small personal tragedy we talk about on the show this week (hint: Rev. Rory can not use the word ‘gainfully’ at this time). While the announcements on the show are as dated as say, last week’s episode, the music of Betty Rocker never gets stale!!!  Carsonite trio of power rockers, Carolyn Gates (bass), Rick Charles (drum) and Betty “Carla” Rocker (git) made the trip up to Reno to hang with us at the old smelly studio.

Carol Rocker

While they’ve only been playing for less than a year, Betty Rocker has quickly developed a following around their tough, tight sound. Gates, you may remember, is also the drummer for Blunderbusst, another one of our favorite Carson bands. We’re kind of having an amazing invasion of great music from the relative isolation of our state capitol. There might not be much of a scene for entertainment down there, but they are breeding performers like bunnies on a ranch!

Ricky Rocker

Oh. It’s also Intern Spencer’s last show with us; it’s also his first show running the whole thing. SO any awkward or technical difficulties (like that time the power was out for 2 hours) is totally his fault. If this show sucks, it’s his fault. Rory says “yea, no” too much? It’s his fault. Your coffee doesn’t taste right? His fault. I hope we’ve all learned something from this experience.

“I like dick. “- S. Kilpatrick

Keep your ears posted for Betty Rocker shows in the next little while.

He might not be looking for it…

…but trouble always seems to find him.

Sultry, seductive and psychedelic

Hey everybody! We continue to switch things up on you and keep the show at least as fresh as day old bread! Veteran troubadour and troublemaker, Bruce Lindsay, treats us to some of his poetry and music. He’s a combination of deep waters and a babbling brook – there’s something deep there, amongst the light, shadow and rocks, but sometimes all you get is shallow. Luckily, Lindsay brought his A-game – and a bunch of books CDs and copies of his award-winning movie “Under the Radar”that he gave to us! This cat knows how to treat big-time stars!

his hat.

Nick hits Rory with a curve ball in the middle of the episode – he challenges Reverend Rory and Bruce Lindsay to a poetry read-off. The wordsmiths dust off some works from ye olde Blue Lamp Open Mic days and do battle with literary claymores – Lindsay took the title by the smallest of margins (mostly since I LET HIM win, cause I’m classy like that). It was strangely a lot more fun than it sounds – a rare treat for and from the vaults.

Conflicted, reflective and alliterative

Our main focus this week, aside from all the crazy creativve and wonderful things Bruce Lindsay does, is MARIANARCHY WINTERBALL 2012 – A Benefit for Tom Plunkett!!!!! As if you weren’t aware, Marianarchy is this weekend and we are helping out our good friend, Tom Plunkett, Reno actor, director, musician, personal friend of  Bruce Lindsay AND the show. Nick reads off the list of band names or you can check out the Day 1 lineup here and the Day 2 lineup here. The Rev will be hosting it (Saturday is his birthday)  and we are looking forward to a really really great weekend. Please join us!!!!

Hella holla!

The Worst Little Podcast – Download Link – S2 E36

Hey-o! After a bunch of scheduling and technical difficulties, we got this episode off the ground and plowed through, coming up with something like a show! Tom McInturf from Red Mercury* showed up this week to save our ass by being the gurst. he was happy too since he’s here to plug the latest Red Mercury* album, “When Galaxies Collide”, a concept album. Some of the music is new, some written just for the album. It was about a year ago that the whole band, including Mike Adragna and Morgan Hough came on to rock it out live.

Unfortunately, Red Mercury* joins the long line of Reno bands that break up right after they record an album. Morgan was stolen away in the night by Spencer the Intern to play with The Big Bad. It was all going so well too until Tom attacked Spence in the hallway… just kidding, but that would have been awesome, right? Try harder next time, Tom.

Also joining us via the tele-ma-phone is Susan jones, a Seattle area comedian, who will be appearing at the Reno Tahoe Comedy Club in the Pioneer Underground this Friday and saturday (11/30 and 12/1). Susan brought the funny! She is the kind of comedy guest we like – chit chat, jokes, plugs, jokes and out. Like a boss! ZI may sound a little disinterested in the tape, but I was dealing with some of the aforementioned tech difficulties during the show. (The new phone doesn’t work like the old one… 🙁 ) But we like her – mildly inappropriate and edgy, Susan Jones is a ton of fun. No really, shes a BBBW. Check out her webside WannaRollAFatty if you don’t believe me. Also be sure to check out her show at the Reno Tahoe Comedy Club – it will be being filmed for a DVD! So get out there and get your voice on a DVD, right before she shuts you down, heckler!

Also – don’t forget the following weekend! Marianarchy, Marianarchy, Marianarchy!!!! Marianarchy Winterball 2012 – A Benefit for Tom Plunkett!!! December 7 and 8 from about 4pm until 2 am both days. As always, 28 local bands coming together for one good cause – helping out the awesome Tommy Plunkett. And fuck cancer. Please be there, if just to stop by and say hi. Nick and Rory will be running around, keeping the whole show on track – at least until Rory gets his birthday drunk on! Can he do 10 carbombs in one day and still be an effective host? Be able to get laid? We shall see…. Looking forward to seeing all of you there!

Thanks for listening!

Hey NOW!

It’s been a while! Hope you haven’t missed us too much. We had a great time in the last couple of weeks and open the show talking about all of us going to The Mike O’Meara Show LIVE at Circus Circus. Super fun happy time!! There were also a bunch of other shows we saw, including The Liver Scars CD release show – opening up for the Misfits. These babies come with a Limited Edition LiverScars comic book. You need to get one for your personal person. We play a few tracks this episode for your listening enjoyment.

Jym “Wild Eyes” Bettencourt

On the show this week we have ourselves another funnyman. Jym Bettencourt, noted Reno podcast whore, takes a turn on the WLP machine this week. Jym’s relatively new to the stand up thing, but no stranger to performing or the stage. Reverend Rory has gotten to see him a few times and thinks he is hands down on of the most inappropriate creeper comedians in town and a MUST SEE if you like good edgy comedy. Jym also brings along a special musical guest, marginal children’s music songwriter, Gary Mayflower. Gary works out some personal issues on the show and makes some real progress, right up until the end.

Gary Mayflower – NOT Jym Bettencourt

I just today got a phone call from the lovely Desiree Sarchet, booker and promoter for the Studio on 4th. She says she’s been hearing that they went out of business, but wants to assure everyone that it is not the case. They ARE running under different management than recently though. Desiree and her crew are trying to breathe new life back into the place and create an art and music venue with regular showcases. She is having an open call for local artists and local acts to book shows there. If you’re a band that had a bad experience with Studio on 4th recently – it is under new management, so please check them out. Desiree is one of the good ones!

Anyway – Happy Turkey Day! We at The Worst Little Podcast in the World are thankful for you guys and gals out there supporting us every week.
You’re the best.
Thanks for listening!

Some days are just made for sleeping in.

Hey Kids – how about a spooky podcast? Well, tough shit. Halloween is now over – it’s November and we all know that means it’s just 50-some odd shopping days until the burning death and destruction predicted in the Mayan calendar! In Studio this week, we have Eric Foreman, Daisy Foreman (no relation), and Rhiannon Box of Stabby Unicorn. If you want to know what they soud like, I’d hazard that it’s 80s goth/dance music with the sensibilities of 90s shoe-gazer rock… or something like that.

Daisy 'Hardcore' Foreman

Sorry it’s late again this week, but it’s a busy freaking season right now!!! Lots of great stuff happening over at the DOgwater Studios, including the release of the great (Un)Discovered 2012 comp, originally recordded in the backyard back in the beginning of the summer. Stabby Unicorn is on it, so is Rev. Rory – but he sucks and totally froze up. Stabby Unicorn didn’t – they killed it. Contact CherryBear Records or Dogwater Studios for your very own copy!

Eric ‘Emo-core’ Foreman

I’ve gotta run do this is about it. Go see Stabby Unicorn! Problably the best new Reno band this year, IMHO.
Thanks for listening!
