You know what heaven is like? A room full of beautiful women smiling at you, without a murderous glint in their eyes. This week we had three lovely local ladies in the studio – Lacey Mattison, Shelly Jackson and Dena Sweigart. Lacey is a local singer songwriter and long-time friend of the show; Shelly is a local crafter, gallery curator and event organizer with Indie Reno and Wildflower Gallery; and Dena was Lacey’s moral support (and ride) that somehow got roped into being on mic. (I wonder how that happened)

This weeks episode is totally 50 shades of GHEY! Even Reverend Rory was blushing by the end of the show! He entirely blames Nick for the gaeity. We also have a phone call with LA area comedian, Ed Galvez, who will be appearing at the Reno Tahoe Comedy Club in the Pioneer Underground this Friday and Saturday!

Speaking of Comedians – on Thursday May 9th, Shea’s Tavern will be hosting the Weediculous Comedy Tour! We will have headliner Dustin Kaufman on next week ta talk about what they’re up to. Also in the studio is Reno artist Kelly Ogilvie. She has a show that will be closing at Reno Art Works on April 25. Her show, Well Red, will be on display until then. Ogilvie is a painter and fiber artist, meaning she makes art from fibers and materials. I’ve also seen her do a little spot welding here and there – follow the hyperlink on her name to find her FB page and check out some of her art there. As talented as she is adorable, Kelly kinda keeps quiet until the quiz. THEN the gloves really come off and we all fall in love with her.
How can you not trust a face like this?
Also want to mention that there is a great show this weekend at the Reno Tahoe Comedy Club in the Pioneer Underground with Frankie Quinones. Would have had a phoner, but for the aforementioned scheduling issues, it didn’t happen. However, personally, Frankie seems like a pretty cool guy, so you should go support him and Reno Comedy at the club this Friday or Saturday night!
And if you’re looking for something do do, don’t forget about Stregapalooza this Friday night, hosted by Reverend Rory (who will play a set as well) and featuring THREE of Nick’s bands. Saturday, Rev. Rory will also be at A Salon 7 for their 9th annual White Party Fundraiser. All obvious jokes aside (like the ones we make on the episode), this is another really great benefit – this year it will be going to FOUR separate charities. Pretty killer.

This past Sunday morning, we lost an important part of the Reno scene – guitarist, songwriter and frontman Dale Kellams gave up the ghost in his fight with cancer. It fuckin’ sucks. Dale was a good friend to many people and a seminal influence on the music of Reno since the ’90s. We pay tribute to Dale this episode by playing a bunch of SPROUT songs and talking about his goofy ass.

We also have in the studio, the ever filthy and inappropriate, Jenny PezDespencer. Not only was she a very close friend to Dale, but she was also originally booked to come on and promote A Salon 7’s 9th Annual White Party Fundraiser. With her is our new friend Phillip Brown. The two of them are dirty, dirty birds and should be spanked. Repeatedly. Slowly. 😉

Arguably, the secret to our success (and quasi-failures) rests in the concept of locking musicians entertainers in a small sweaty room and feeding them beer and or coffee for 90 minutes. It’s always a helluva good time – but there are weeks when it really gets… weird… or funny – like clownmeat. Elgin Alway and Bishop getting crazy in the studio! Bishop is the lead singer and guitarist for Formerly Known As, A Tribute to Prince, and Elgin is one of the top rated comedians in Reno (according to him, anyway). They are a volatile mixture behind the mics. Seriously, there was even a total Freaky Friday moment when Elgin’s playing guitar and Bishop’s doing the joke-thing. Bishop and Elgin may have been channeling each other at that point – not sure.

Nick’s Journal Time (An Unexpected Tale) didn’t go exactly as planned – no one let the guests know that they were supposed to shut the hell up. Rory didn’t quite get to go into his review of Doubt, the current production at Bruka Theater – again, lots of interruptions. And by that point we didn’t even ask Rick what his week was like, not because we don’t really care, no! but because we were distracted by Bishop’s ethereal signifyin’ tirades or Elgin’s attempts to get a good Billy Dee Williams groove going on.

Bishop is keeping pretty tight lipped about his next performance with Formerly Known As, but Elgin will be appearing this weekend at the Reno Tahoe Comedy Club’s Roast of Pat Schillito, recent guest and friend of the show, this very weekend – so it should be a blast. Chekkit out!
Nick wanted me to remember to talk about something else…. but it was at the open mic at Jub Jub’s when he told me, so I forgot. This coming week though!!! Happy Valentines Day!!! Hope everybody gets some!!!!
We had a fun, if at times, awkward show this week. Hope you love the phone calls. In studio we have Reno musician Larry Cooper and Reno Comedian Pat Shillito. They came to play and we had a lot of fun despite all the distractions… No! really! I’m still scratching my head about a lot of what happened on the show this week. If this sounds confusing – good! Listen to the episode and see if you can decipher the mystery.
I don’t want to say Larry does drugs or anything, but he looks like he’s been haning out with Nick too much.
So, yeah, I’m stuck on this whole Valentine’s Day thing. It’s the first one I’ve been single for in almost a decade. Should I write the girly a poem? How do I come off as not creeperish? Do I ignore the holiday entirely? How does one approach a booty call on Valentine’s Day? So many questions, so many embarassing outcomes. $5 says I chicken out on my plans.

Hello, loyal listeners; yow are ye? We have a pretty interesting show this week, with another Worst Little Podcast first, as is our wont. This week we tackle the realm of politics and have some face time with one of the members of the media committee from Occupy Reno, Tom L. While we attack him with vitriol and annoying questions ask a lot of dumb questions (someone has to), Tom does a pretty admirable job of fielding them and letting us know more about the aims of Occupy Reno. Hand signals, permits and dealing with carpetbagging shills are just some of the insights he brings from the Occupy Reno General Assembly and march.

But it’s not all boring politics, no! We have our fair share of toilet humor and biting wit – most of it supplied this week by Reno comedian and entertainment journalist, Jenny PezDeSpencer. And I’ll just say it now: Jenny is a dirty girl. That’s why we love her. Jenny just barely edges out Tom during the Worst Little Quiz, pretty much solely based on her feminine wiles. She does bring her jornalist’s hat to the show and doesn’t let Tom off the hook without trying to interview Occupy Reno. Tim has haunted and stalked open mics in Reno for over ten years in Reno, focusing on his comedic skillz in the last five years. He’s an integral part of the Empire Comedy and Empire Improv groups and teaches in their improv classes. On this episode he keeps Chewie’s seat warm while the big man toils away in a mine. We’re kind of all over the road on this one, talking about Nick’s recent nuptials, Tim’s disturbing childhood, and even current events! I mean, really, how could we not talk about Seal Team Six bringing back the World Hide and Seek Championship Ring? We also have yet ANOTHER first – our first phone interview! Since he couldn’t make it in town to the wedding, we called up Steve Fot, long-time Reno rockstar and good friend of the show, to bust his balls about not being in town.
