“Life is pain, highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.” – The Dread Pirate Roberts
It’s that frantic time of year in Reno, when all the summer festivals are packed in on top of one another, all the Burners return home from their sojourn on The Playa and the weather goes back to being schizophrenic. I stay home a lot.But that just gives me more time to catch up on all the old podcasts as we roll up into EPISODE 200 in just a few weeks! We are really stoked that we’ve been around this long and we get all the support we do from you unresponsive listeners. I love you.
This week on the show we are joined by Ken McKim, a Reno-area Chronic Illness Advocate and long-time friend of Dogwater Dick. Ken’s goal as an advocate is to help non-sufferers understand the kind of long term pain and discomfort that chronic illness patients routinely, even daily, go through. Many of these pain symptoms are brushed off or downplayed by people who don’t have these conditions with a “If I can’t see it, it’s not real,” attitude. These are documented and real conditions that are not ‘just in their heads’ that include ailments like: Crohn’s Disease, Lupus, Depression, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), Fibromyalgia and more.
In order to bring understanding, to the public, to friends, to politicians and even spouses, Ken McKim has made a few series of videos, creating analogies and comparisons in real terms the average
idiot, like myself layperson can understand. It’s a noble and daunting undertaking, but if you are interested in finding out more about Ken Mckim’s work, please visit his website at www.dontpunishpain.com where his 17-video series is available for free. He is also the creator of the 4-part series, “Dear Healthy People,” available on YouTube.
It’s a pretty heavy subject, so that’s why we also brought back by popular demand (mostly his)….
…the awesome Spike McGuire! Our last episode with Spike had some issues and never was properly released, so he’s back again with another set of toe tappers. Spike McGuire is a folk/Americana singer/songwriter (FASS) from Reno NV and frontman for Six Mile Station. Spike is still killing it all over the West Coast, but never fails to be back in Reno for the Loud As Folk, a long running Reno music series held on the First Thursday of every month. It’s good to have Spike in here this week. He’s always a treat and DAMN! can he strum on a guitar.
Thanks for Listening!
It’s that time of year again – Dust Season. Welcome back, Burners.
We were supposed to have this new kick-ass band for you this week, but they’ve already lost a drummer, so instead we just got a lead singer: Mr. Spike McGuire! Spike’s been on the show before and is a busy man around town. He heads up the monthly Loud As Folk series at The Alley in Sparks and is generally playing music somewhere on any given week. He regales us with some tales of Chicago, music, anarchy and sex bets. That’s right sex bets. Just ask Aric Shapiro! (who is a huge… pimp, btw, ladies). Spike also brought along a friend of his, a bona-fide actor from LA that we like to call Hollywood Brad!
At first, it seemed as if the show was a little weak and directionless (Rory hadn’t been drinking much yet). But once Hollywood Brad got a 6-pack under his 6-pack, the stories started rolling on ot. One of the LONGEST Worst Little Quizzes ever ebcause of that. But it’s all good – a really good quiz. You can hear them jockeying for positions
in Rick’s bed . Naughty boys. Rory also pans a touring act that he caught next week and Nick of course has details about a bunch of shows he’s paying in. What is this? Some kind of personal aggrandizement center? Oh, wait…
Anyway, thanks for listening!
The Worst Little Podcast in the World!
-WARNING: NSFW The Worst Little Podcast in the World, bringing you live Reno music since 2010! (plus dick jokes... lots of dick jokes.) It is tasteless tacky and offensive. But WLP isn't just for self indulgence, no! It is a chance for us to bring the musicians you see on stage into your home, car or cubicle. We also like to highlight the Greater Reno Area and everything that makes this town rock.
