S8 E9

Hello again, and welcome to the Worst Little Podcast in the world! This week Almond Mocha Music and poet extraordinaire, Elisa Garcia joined us on the show. Listen up as Kim, Kelly, and Elisa take over Dogwater Studios (RV, Rory, Nick, and Dogwater Dick are here too). We’re steering the ship now, and we’ve got beer. Look out. We’ve got Rory’s shitty old poems, Almond Mocha’s sexy chill vibes, and sexy raindrops galore for the lovely Elisa.

One Million Pounds of Bass – RV aka Motorhome music makes his Worst Little Podcast debut.

Almond Mocha Music is RV, aka Motorhome Music, and Kelly Proud. They describe themselves as fun, exciting, dancey enough to get your feet tapping but still appropriately layers over conversation on a long drive or over a cup of coffee. This new musical journey between these two musicians is a wonderful departure from the norm. Stitch and @motorhomemusic shatter musical expectations with their collaboration, Almond Mocha. Described as “uplifting” and “hopeful music” this step outside of either of their creative norms produces a sound consistently compared to The Postal Service, The Album Leaf and Massive Attack.

Their self titled album “Almond Mocha” will be released in early 2018. Catch Kelly Proud next at the Blue Bird when she opens for former podcast guest and excellent human, Grace Hayes, and Whitney Myer! It’s Kim’s birthday and all she wants for her day is for you to go to this show!

This week we welcome Rory back to the show but not in his normal capacity as he is one of tonight’s guests! Also missing but present is Mr. Nick Ramirez. Nick and Rory, along with band-mates Spike and Jackson are here as One Ton Dually, and they’re ready with like six songs, so hold onto your tits, dear listeners. Listen up as Chewy and Kadillac Kim attempt to fill Nick and Rory’s rather large hosting shoes/chairs. We’re here talking about murders and Reno and Murderino’s!

But enough about us, let’s talk about the BAND. One Ton Dually is a rock and roll band from Reno, NV, singing songs about fast drinking and hard wimmin (yeah, they made that a word). The band describes themselves as a 4-speed good time transmission with top of the line suspension and a powerful engine under the hood. I’d take that for a ride, and you should too.

One Ton Dually has recently played at the Saint and Shea’s, which is to say they get around. If you know what I mean… Like their Facebook page to learn about new show dates and to link to their music.

While you’re waiting for One Ton Dually, be sure to check out the following awesome-sauce events in Reno.

This Friday is Foxy First Friday with host Rory Dowd, featuring Mike Metzger. Apparently Mike is well recommended by many low-life musicians who own guitars. I mean, that’s what the internet has to say and the internet is never wrong. If you want to challenge the internet, or if you just want to hear some great live music, get to Foxy Olive by 9 p.m.  21+ No cover.

Saturday punk bands U.S. Bombs / Abandon Minds / Another Damn Disappointment share the stage at Shea’s. 9 p.m. 21+

If you haven’t heard, Sunday is the new Saturday in Reno. Check out the Violence Creeps / Negative Sex / Murder Dream at the Holland Project. 8 p.m. all ages. $5

At Alturas on the DL, go have an epic good time seeing Johnny Cash tribute Cash’d Out with Cowboy Indian. 21+ 8 p.m. $15 (tickets here)

For all you Burner’s and would be Burners, Monday through Wednesday is the annual city wide party known as The Great Depressurization, presented by our friends at Fresh Bakin’. Decompress and readjust to the default world with excellent entertainment by the likes of Kelly Proud (details here), The Utility Players (details here), and big name DJ’s. The three day event takes place at The Eldorado, Silver Legacy, and Circus Circus in Reno, and MontBleu Resort in South Lake Tahoe. Click through to see the full lineup.

If you need a break from the casino traffic, go to Cargo on Tuesday for Saving Banksy / The Great Bingo Revival at Cargo. See the film, stay for the party. 21+ 8 p.m. no cover

That’s all I’ve got this week and this is where I’ll be. If you have events you think I should go to let me know! I’ll do just about anything once.

There’s no show next week thanks to Labor Day, but we’ll be back on September 11th with Riptide Bandits! Thanks for listening Reno. You’re the best.

Shit just got REALS, yo!

Adam.

Finally, finally, finally! We got The Kanes in the studio!! Well, 2/3 of them anyway – Mick was just too cool for school and couldn’t make it, but Adam Springob and Greg Gilmore came in with their guitars and laid down some sweet sweet honey for your ears – including *ahem* another worldwide exclusve first-listen here on the Worst Little Podcast. Yeah. We kewl like dat. These guys are one of the most exciting bands in town, hands down. I love watching them play. This acoustic set they play for us, while a little more laid back, is still pretty powerful and pretty pretty pretty. We talk about their potential shows in the future and some of the shows they’ve played htis summer – and then the quiz. The Quiz! We have our first ever DISQUALIFICATION! Stick around and listen to that!

Greg and Nick.

I also want to take a moment out to mention Kelly ‘Stitch’  Proud, a local performer and friend of the show. Last week, Kelly was hospitalized for an unknown ailment and is currently on a vantilator to breathe for her and a paralytic drip. She is literally fighting for her life right now and not out of the woods yet. Since she is a performer and member of the service industry, she doesn’t have health insurance or much to fall back on when she doesn’t work. If you have the inclination, please visit the link above to make a donation. A singer, musician and actor, Kelly was also the emcee for the Midnight Minx review. They have an upcoming show this thursday at Cargo inside CommRow, RAW Artists Reno: Radiate. Proceeds from tickets bought through Midnight Minx will go to support kelly and pay her bills while she is laid up and recovering. Also, after the show, there will be a benefit party for her at Home inside Rise downtown. All donations in lieu of cover will go to benefit Stitch and there are 241 Industry night drink specials. Please go to an event and help us support this great member of our performing arts community!

Kelly Proud

And, yes, I know I’m going to hell for some of the jokes I made about it, but Stitch would approve. Heh.

I also want to mention that as of this week, The Worst Little Podcast in the World has taken over the open mic at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor! That’s right we are now the proud owners of one Worst Little Open Mic!!! Come on down and jam with us every monday night at 9:30-ish. Bands, want some exposure and maybe get booked on the podcast or the bar? Come on down, set up yer shit and play for us!

Thanks for listening!
