S8 E13: Ep 295

We are so lucky this week to have one of the BIGGEST little guests we’ve ever had the pleasure of coming through Dogwater Studios. Ladies and gentlefolk, all the way from the former East Germany and… other(?) parts East… World-wide sensation and controversial media darlings, Hedwig and The Angry Inch! – Do you have what it takes to be a superstar? Do you have the balls? Would you sacrifice your balls for fame? Your pain is nothing.

We are joined in studio by the cast of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch“, as presented by Brüka Theater and Good Luck Macbeth Theater. We do NOT have, Joe Atack, Amy Ginder, Eric Foreman, Rhiannon Box, Daisy Foreman and Nick Ramirez in studio. No! We have the very actual, for really really reals band, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, “escorted” by director Bill Ware. What follows is a very off the cuff and revealing interview with this controversial international figure, Hedwig, and the band that supports her. There are some very shocking things that happen behind the scenes with these Eastern European rockers.

If you don’t already know what “Hedwig” is, I’m not going to tell you: you’ll just have to go see the show.

“Hedwig and the Angry Inch” will open at Good Luck Macbeth’s new space at 124 W Taylor St, this Friday, April 20, and will run through Saturday, May 12. Complete show dates can be found on the theaters’ websites, or the Facebook event page, as linked above. Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets. Sources suggest that there will be many audiences at capacity and you may want to get tickets in advance to save yourself some money and make sure you can get your seats. As a joint production by two of the most edgy theaters in Reno, “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is a first in Reno independent performing arts – and hopefully not the last. (EVERYBODY WILL BE THERE – GET YOUR TICKETS SO YOU’RE NOT LEFT OUT).

The drunken debauchery starts here! Welcome to the St. Patrick’s Day episode! Saber Tooth Dragons are up on tap and they brought the mayhem. (overboard? Overboard. Edit? nah.) Matt Bode, Adam Dick, Andrew Hockenberry and Myke Read are behind this operation. The Reno NV punk band has been playing for about a year, combining members of other Reno bands you may have heard of (Machine Gun Vendetta, Infecto Skeletons, Del Mar) and are kinda really killing it.

You can catch Saber Tooth Dragons TONIGHT! On St. Patrick’s Day at the official starting line of the walk of shame, Shea’s Tavern, with a bunch of other bands. Show starts right around Rock and Roll time… which gives you plenty of time to catch the 7:30 opening night showing of “Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll“, a play by Eric Bogosian, right next door at Good Luck Macbeth Theater. Director Ashley Marie James also is hanging in the studio, taking the place of our very own Nick Ramirez, who is in the show and at rehearsal (again). It’s only got a limited run of SIX SHOWS so this might be your best opportunity to see it. Get your tickets now!

Worst Little Podcast – Episode 024

How could you NOT trust faces like these?

Hot enough for ya? Actually, we’ve all been enjoying the pretty awesome weather we’ve been having this summer. HOWEVER, the studio is quite different. Our cooling system is mildly noisy – an ancient window unit and a ceiling fan with a 2″ wobble (no shit – there have been times I’ve thought it was going to shake itself loose and kill me).
We start the show off this week remembering a good friend of ours, Jim Martin. He passed away this past Friday, surrounded by loved ones. Jim was a prolific director, educator, patron of the arts and a generally “hardcore awesome” guy. His family plans to organize a celebration of his awesomeness in the next few weeks. Check Brüka and Good Luck MacBeth for details soon. Jim’s final directorial work, Oedipus: the King will continue its run, through July 30th at Brüka Theater. Additionally there will be a staged reading of his adaptation of Clytemnestra on July 24th, also at Brüka. Jim was a visionary and active force in the Reno arts community. He will be sorely missed.
In studio we have some of the people we’ve tricked into advertising with us our sponsors, Faith and Josh from Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor! Normally, they say a lot more but the microphones scared them. Or maybe it was the heat. And the beer. Probably the beer. We are happy to have them on board with us (as if you couldn’t tell). They were less than happy that we had them come over ans sit in the sweat lodge for a 5 minute plug. Ah! The joys of fake radio. Josh and Faith end their segment powering through the first and fastest Rapid Fire Quiz.
After the break, we shoot the breeze with notorious Reno rockers Walk of Shame, on the road back from self-destruction, playing great music while they do it (at least, on the CD they sound pretty good). Jeff Done, Suta Bogale and Dan Harmon make it in with us.  Preston didn’t make it because he’s a freaking flaky-ass drummer and we don’t like him anyway! *grumble grumble* We share some spectacular bad ideas we’ve all had over the years.
Nick has an update on the Hella Acapella Saga. Rory throws some shout-outs to some new listeners (is it YOU???) and has presents. Chewie is back out in the field (…well, really under it) and Rick hasn’t done a goddamned thing because he’s on vacation – for real this time!
We had a lot of fun this week and hope you do too. Thanks for listening.
