Hello! At long last we have Buster Blue (sort of) in the studio! The whole band couldn’t make it this week (and honestly where would we have even put them all?), but we’ve got a Buster Blue duo here. Bryan Jones and Rachael McElhiney play a whole bunch of songs and you *almost* forget there’s like 90 more members in the band. Also with us is Mando, aka the Keyboard Commando from the Welcome to Beautiful Reno Nevada Facebook Page. Press play for maximum silliness!

Reno legends Buster Blue reunite on September 7th at Revision Brewing Company for the Reno as Fuck 4 year anniversary party. Click through for more info and to get your tickets ASAP! And check out the Keyboard Commando at Welcome to Beautiful Reno.

We’re off next week for Labor Day but there are a TON of shows happening over the next couple of weeks you should see. Here are my picks:

Friday – Tonic Zephyr, Sell The Sun, Post Humous, Gina Rose at Dead Ringer 8PM 21+ $7

Saturday – Check out podcast guests One Ton Dually, Heterophobia, Ozymandias and more at Bobolobo Music fest this Saturday! 10AM to 10PM All ages $20

Sunday – Starting Sunday Fresh Bakin’ presents The Great Depressurization 2019! This city wide party features comedy act JP Sears at the Silver Legacy and DJ’s at just about every Reno bar. Click through for the full schedule. I’m particularly excited for the shows happening at Pignic starting Sunday. Click here for event info.

Beyond – Thursday Sept. 5th Loud as Folk is back at Pignic with Tim Styles//Stevi Cooper//CWS//Huckleberry Road. 8PM 21+ $5 donation

Thanks for continuing to support the show and thanks for listening! We’re back in a couple of weeks with the Sextones!

S9 E2 – Ice and snow be damned! Nothing stops the podcast, especially not when we have a guest like Bryan Jones to grace the studio. To catch you up to speed, Bryan is a seasoned Reno musician, notably with Buster Blue, but consistently with his own solo work, including his current project, Buffalo Moses. After a brief sojourn in the far off hinterlands of… Seattle, Jones returns to Reno to really sabotage launch his career by making an appearance on our show.

The conversation swings about wildly as we relentlessly pepper Jones with questions, often simultaneously. He calmly answers most of our questions, with the patience of a weary teacher dealing with unruly children. The music, of course, is top-notch – including some brand-new WLP EXCLUSIVE tracks.

In other Reno news, don’t forget to check out the Reno Punk Rock Flea Market this weekend! 18 bands, dozens of local DIY vendors, a children’s corner, car smashing and more! If you missed it last year and spent the year rolling your eyes while you listened to everyone else talk about how rad it was, DON’T DO THAT AGAIN! It’s as cool as we say it is – trust me!

For more community events and local activities, check out Reverend Rory’s event listings over at This Is Reno (our proud sponsor)!

S8 E11

Welcome to this weeks Worst Little Podcast! It’s our last week of our Women’s March shows. It’s been a pleasure to bring you these four shows showcasing strong female voices in Reno music. This week we have the one and only Rachael McElhiney of Failure Machine and Buster Blue, and the legendary Mikie Shame of the Shames, Eddie and the Subtitles, and more! We’re asking these bad ass ladies a slew of questions and listening to some amazing tunes! Press play now!

Rachael and Mikie are both powerhouses with lots of history in the music scene in Reno. Rachael just got back from a small tour surrounding her appearance with Failure Machine at Treefort Music Fest in Boise. Mikie has been singing and playing bass in Reno since 2002 and continues to be a vital member of the punk scene, with her most recent shows being with Eddie and the Subtitles.

Rachel McElhinney of Reno band Failure Machine and Mikie Shame of the Shames and Eddie and the Subtitles smile for the camera at Dogwater Studios.

Rachel McElhinney and Mikie Shame – Rachel plays sax and ukelele. Mikie plays bass. They’re friends now so Reno should probably hold onto their hats.

Both ladies have some really cool shows coming up. Rachael is performing solo at the Loud As Folk 7 Year Anniversary festival at Pignic, Saturday April 7th. Mikie is playing with the Subtitles April 13th for Debauch-a-Reno, the Sticker Guy 25th anniversary, at Jub Jub’s! We couldn’t be more excited for those shows!

Thanks so much to Rachael and Mikie for spending their Monday night with us. I for one feel pretty honored to spend time with these rad humans!

Be sure to go out and support your local music scene this weekend. Here’s my picks:

Thursday – True Violet with special Guest Georgia Maestro at St. James Infirmary. 8PM 21+

Thursday Night Trivia at the Jungle! with our favorite trivia host and podcast guest Aubrey Forston. 8PM 21+

Saturday – Void Vator // Disastroid // The Grimtones at Shea’s. 8PM 21+ $6/7

Boss’ Daughter European Tour Kickoff Party at Sierra Taphouse. 9PM 21+

Sunday – Soul Correction, Josiah Knight and The Get Ahead 7PM 21+ $5

Beyond – This Wednesday see Five Alarm Funk with Redfield Clipper at The Saint! 7PM 21+ $8/10

Wednesday, April 11th check out our good friend Johnny Thunderpiss at DED, Hate To Share, Fate Awaits at Jub Jub’s 8PM 21+

Don’t miss the Loud As Folk Anniversary festival, April 5-8 at Pignic. Follow the link for details!

Be sure to keep your eyes open for Marianarchy updates. Lineup is coming soon! Pro tip: get your tickets for Larry and His Flask NOW. These tickets will sell out and we don’t want you to miss any of the fun at the Jub Jub’s Marianarchy weekend! Gremfest updates will be rolled out as soon as I have those, too.

WLP is looking for raffle donations for this May’s Marianarchy, the biannual celebration of our departed friend and patron saint of Reno Music, Marrianne Sota. This year we are raising money for our friend and Reno local Brian Smith. Brian recently suffered a heart attack and could use some community love. Hit any of us at the podcast up if you have a donation!

Thanks for listening, Reno! We’re pretty humbled by your ongoing support, shares, likes, and comments. If you have an event or band you would like us to promote give us a holler! If you would like to help us pay the taxes and stuff, head over to our Patreon. We are committed to recording and archiving Reno music like we have for the last 7 years but we could use your help! Even a couple of bucks is rad! We are taking next week off so Rick can chill with Jesus and the Easter Bunny, but we will be back April 9th with Alphabet Cult!
