Podcasting live from the recent, sweaty past, we’re bringing you the power trio from Carson, our friends Blunderbusst! It has been six whole years since they have graced our humble studio and they’re bringing a heavy dose of nostalgia and kick ass tunes. This week we’re talking clown Elvis’s, hamburger hands, and sweet, sweet practice holes! Press play for this podcast EXCLUSIVE from Blunderbusst!

There were no interns this week so Kim had to do all the heavy lifting. And by heavy lifting I mean beers and conversation! Kim’s adventures this week consisted of clowning around with a clown Elvis impersonator and turning 35! Here’s proof that Clownvis exists! Come back, Clownvis!

We hear there might be some stuff happening at Foxy Olive and St. James Infirmary soon! We loved having these three on the show again. Let’s hope it’s not another six years for the next time.

This last week was pretty epic, even by Reno standards, and next week will be more of the same! Here are Kim’s picks:

S8 E13: Ep 295

We are so lucky this week to have one of the BIGGEST little guests we’ve ever had the pleasure of coming through Dogwater Studios. Ladies and gentlefolk, all the way from the former East Germany and… other(?) parts East… World-wide sensation and controversial media darlings, Hedwig and The Angry Inch! – Do you have what it takes to be a superstar? Do you have the balls? Would you sacrifice your balls for fame? Your pain is nothing.

lineup of the cast in their rock and roll costumes and in character poses.

We are joined in studio by the cast of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch“, as presented by Brüka Theater and Good Luck Macbeth Theater. We do NOT have, Joe Atack, Amy Ginder, Eric Foreman, Rhiannon Box, Daisy Foreman and Nick Ramirez in studio. No! We have the very actual, for really really reals band, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, “escorted” by director Bill Ware. What follows is a very off the cuff and revealing interview with this controversial international figure, Hedwig, and the band that supports her. There are some very shocking things that happen behind the scenes with these Eastern European rockers.

If you don’t already know what “Hedwig” is, I’m not going to tell you: you’ll just have to go see the show.

“Hedwig and the Angry Inch” will open at Good Luck Macbeth’s new space at 124 W Taylor St, this Friday, April 20, and will run through Saturday, May 12. Complete show dates can be found on the theaters’ websites, or the Facebook event page, as linked above. Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets. Sources suggest that there will be many audiences at capacity and you may want to get tickets in advance to save yourself some money and make sure you can get your seats. As a joint production by two of the most edgy theaters in Reno, “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is a first in Reno independent performing arts – and hopefully not the last. (EVERYBODY WILL BE THERE – GET YOUR TICKETS SO YOU’RE NOT LEFT OUT).

Welcome to this weeks Worst Little Podcast! It’s our last week of our Women’s March shows. It’s been a pleasure to bring you these four shows showcasing strong female voices in Reno music. This week we have the one and only Rachael McElhiney of Failure Machine and Buster Blue, and the legendary Mikie Shame of the Shames, Eddie and the Subtitles, and more! We’re asking these bad ass ladies a slew of questions and listening to some amazing tunes! Press play now!

Rachael and Mikie are both powerhouses with lots of history in the music scene in Reno. Rachael just got back from a small tour surrounding her appearance with Failure Machine at Treefort Music Fest in Boise. Mikie has been singing and playing bass in Reno since 2002 and continues to be a vital member of the punk scene, with her most recent shows being with Eddie and the Subtitles.

Rachel McElhinney of Reno band Failure Machine and Mikie Shame of the Shames and Eddie and the Subtitles smile for the camera at Dogwater Studios.

Rachel McElhinney and Mikie Shame – Rachel plays sax and ukelele. Mikie plays bass. They’re friends now so Reno should probably hold onto their hats.

Both ladies have some really cool shows coming up. Rachael is performing solo at the Loud As Folk 7 Year Anniversary festival at Pignic, Saturday April 7th. Mikie is playing with the Subtitles April 13th for Debauch-a-Reno, the Sticker Guy 25th anniversary, at Jub Jub’s! We couldn’t be more excited for those shows!

Thanks so much to Rachael and Mikie for spending their Monday night with us. I for one feel pretty honored to spend time with these rad humans!

Be sure to keep your eyes open for Marianarchy updates. Lineup is coming soon! Pro tip: get your tickets for Larry and His Flask NOW. These tickets will sell out and we don’t want you to miss any of the fun at the Jub Jub’s Marianarchy weekend! Gremfest updates will be rolled out as soon as I have those, too.

WLP is looking for raffle donations for this May’s Marianarchy, the biannual celebration of our departed friend and patron saint of Reno Music, Marrianne Sota. This year we are raising money for our friend and Reno local Brian Smith. Brian recently suffered a heart attack and could use some community love. Hit any of us at the podcast up if you have a donation!

Thanks for listening, Reno! We’re pretty humbled by your ongoing support, shares, likes, and comments. If you have an event or band you would like us to promote give us a holler! If you would like to help us pay the taxes and stuff, head over to our Patreon. We are committed to recording and archiving Reno music like we have for the last 7 years but we could use your help! Even a couple of bucks is rad! We are taking next week off so Rick can chill with Jesus and the Easter Bunny, but we will be back April 9th with Alphabet Cult!

This week we’re asking important questions like: are you still friends with her and is she going to listen to this podcast? Tune in for fat, sweaty, German brats, botched circumcisions, and punk rock battle wounds (RIP, Alise’s ankle). But MOST IMPORTANTLY, there’s some badass music from one of Reno’s strongest lady musicians.

Hello again, and welcome to the Worst Little Podcast in the world! This week Almond Mocha Music and poet extraordinaire, Elisa Garcia joined us on the show. Listen up as Kim, Kelly, and Elisa take over Dogwater Studios (RV, Rory, Nick, and Dogwater Dick are here too). We’re steering the ship now, and we’ve got beer. Look out. Kelly Proud

RV of Almond Mocha Music relaxes in a chair at Dogwater Studios in Reno, Nevada.

One Million Pounds of Bass – RV aka Motorhome music makes his Worst Little Podcast debut.

Almond Mocha Music is RV, aka Motorhome Music, and Kelly Proud. They describe themselves as fun, exciting, dancey enough to get your feet tapping but still appropriately layers over conversation on a long drive or over a cup of coffee. This new musical journey between these two musicians is a wonderful departure from the norm. Stitch and @motorhomemusic shatter musical expectations with their collaboration, Almond Mocha. Described as “uplifting” and “hopeful music” this step outside of either of their creative norms produces a sound consistently compared to The Postal Service, The Album Leaf and Massive Attack.

Their self titled album “Almond Mocha” will be released in early 2018. Catch Kelly Proud next at the Blue Bird when she opens for former podcast guest and excellent human, Grace Hayes, and Whitney Myer! It’s Kim’s birthday and all she wants for her day is for you to go to this show!
Elisa Garcia poses with a flower crown.

Elisa “It comes out when I drink too much, so hand me another beer.” Garcia

Reno’s slam queen, Elisa, works with the Holland Project producing weekly all ages open poetry nights and produces the quarterly adult themed poetry night, LIT at Night. See the next installment of LIT at Night April 21st at Headquarters Bar.
