It’s not angry women….

The Worst Little Podcast – S6 E12

In the ceaseless ebb and flow of the creation and destruction cycle of Reno bands, you sometimes get something intriguing and unique. Other times, you’re left with music like Donner and the Cannibals, a Reno punk/folk trio. Donner and the Cannibals is comprised of Craig Schrader, Rachel Barr and Aaron Foelsh, all previous guests of the show in other bands.

Craig Schrader, guitar and vocals

Rick calls it “bitchrock” but Nick and the Rev know protest punk when we hear it. Good stuff – pretty and angry.

Aaron Foelsh

Please don’t forget to join us at Marianarchy XII this weekend! Friday and Saturday, Nick and Reverend Rory will be hosting the 30+ band event as a benefit for Kula Dunn, good friend of the community and ECV, who had his legs broken in a hit and run incident last year. Help us raise him some walking money. As usual, there will be a silent auction and raffle..

Starring our youngest guest yet!!!

Worst Little Podcasat – S6 E11

The Potentialists of the Potentialist Workshop invade Dogwater Studios this week. Mac Esposito (Bazooka Zoo), Chriselle Vinson, Kelsey Sweet and Axiom Pantoja join support to talk about what the shell a Potentialist and the Workshop is all about. Mostly though, we talked with young Ax. And he spoke the truth!

Kelsey Sweet and 4 month old Axiom Pantoja

Kelsey and Ax

Mac plays us some solo stuff, some of which are songs he plays with Bazooka Zoo, friends of the show and Reno Space Rockers. Mac joined their lineup a while ago and the sound is out of the galaxy. You can catch them at their next show at The Saint on 5/27/2016.

Mac Esposito of Bazooka Zoo and the Potentialists

Mac

His lovely wife, Chriselle, whose name I butcher repeatedly throughout the show, is both wonderful and the house masseuse at the Potentialist Workshop. Stop by and check them out- they want to make your art a reality!

Chriselle Vinson of the Potentialists and Potentialist Theater

Chriselle

Stop by Foxy First Friday this week with my very good friend, Jen Scaffidi. You know and love her. Also don’t forget Reno Sculpture Fest, happening downtown Friday thru Sunday. And – Word to your Moms. Happy Mothers’ Day!

Are you ready for this? Finally?

The-Worst-Little-Podcast-2016-04-25

Hello fans and dedicated listeners!! Many apologies for the delay of the show. Serenity Awaits has been patiently waiting for their turn in the show. Ben, Chris, Charlie and Herman join us this week and it’s worth the wait.

Charlie of Serenity Awaits

Charlie – guitar

Ben boren of Serenity Awaits

Ben – singer and guitar

These guys traveled a fair distance to join us and brought their best… well really, they’ve brought about 2 1/2 hrs worth of original material, but showed off only the best of the best. We have a lot of fun with Serenity Awaits. These guys have stories for days. Also – Herman speaks very little English so it’s a great chance to hear Rick improv his Spanish translations for Quiz questions.

Chris of Serenity Awaits

Chris – bass

Herman of Serenity Awaits

Herman – drums

Lots of great stuff happening in Reno right now: Foxy First Friday featuring Jen Scaffidi is this week, hosted by The Rev; just a few more weeks until Marianarchy XII: A Benefit for Kula Dunn; “King Lear” runs at Good Luck MacBeth until 5/21; Reno Sculpture Festival next weekend – all over downtown Reno; and much much more. Get off yer butt and go see some stuff!

Can I get a little love?

The Worst Little Podcast – s6 e9

Trust Reno music to always throw something new and off the beaten band path. Heard of Elephants? is a wonderful conglomeration of some veterans of the Reno music scene. Jonathan Rolling, Matt Bad, Matt Karr and Lars Bateman form up this Voltron of folk-funk-punk-jazz. No, really! I didn’t believe them when they told me either, but that really captures a part of what’s going on with Heard of Elephants?.

Matt Bad - drums and vocals- Herd of Elephants

Jonathan Rolling - guitar and vocals - Herd of Elephants

Unfortunately, Heard of Elephants? does not have a website, but you can track them down over on the Facebookery and find out their show calendar. Their next show is down at the old Studio on 4th and you may just want to check that shit out, knowatimsayin?

In other happenings around ‘town’ Sassafrass Eclectic Food Joint in Carson City is hosting another Sassabration Diversity Festival on August 16th. Reverend Rory and Princess Bombs went down to check it out last year and had a great time, but this year, they are looking for more bands! That’s right – they want you! They are having an open call for entertainment at their celebration of Diversity, Community and Equality. Check out Sassabration application and contact details in the link.

Matt Karr - banjo - Heard of Elephants

Lars Bateman - guitar - Heard of Elephants

Hear of Elephants is some good times. GO see them play live and buy them drinks. A stampede upon your ears. they are. Totally worth it.

Roxxy Collie joins us this week on the show. A new Reno rock band, Roxy Collie is a conglomeration of other Reno bands and bring some serious talent to bear. Of course, Mr. “I’m in 8000 Bands” Nick Ramirez is in this latest project on drums. He backs up Steve Barron, Jon Cornell, Pat Rhea and the vocal stylings of the always impressive, Margy Ford.

We drink. We laugh. We tell an awful lot of dick jokes. Actually, no. Well, yes, there are dick jokes, but we didn’t have much time for talk, since the band had to kick our ears’ asses with awesome music. Coincidentally, the band is named after American Orinthologist Roxie Collie Laybourne. Since Nick was in the band, he couldn’t host, so the WLP Webmaster, Lord Stryse stops in to take the third chair. It’s always good to have him here with us in the studio!

Welcome to spring in Reno – pack a heavy coat!

Worst little Podcast S6 E7 – Download link

It’s amazing that we haven’t had them on the show before, but we are happy to bring to you the musical talents of Robert “Bobbo” Clark and Anthony Vairetta of Sil Shoda. Sil Shoda is a Reno rock band that has enjoyed some bit of notoriety in the past decade with their high energy shows and strong musicianship.

Robert Clark - guitar and vocals fro Sil Shoda

Bobbo

While they have been publicly quiet as of late, Sil Shoda has been furiously masturbating recording behind the scenes; they hope to have a few releases hit the airwaves and internet this year, so be sure to keep an eye out for that as well as shows on their Facebook and reverbnation pages. Also – they are just a blast to bullshit with; I really mean it this time when I say that this was one of the most fun shows we’ve ever done.

Anthony Vairetta, guitar for Sil SHoda

Anthony

Speaking of fun shows, don’t forget that this is your last chance to see “Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll” at Good Luck Macbeth, featuring our very own Nick Ramirez. We get a teaser of the show with him at the top of the episode, so if you like what you year – go get some culture and see the show!

Need a little Irish in ya?

The Worst Little Podcast – 2015 03 14 – Download Link

The drunken debauchery starts here! Welcome to the St. Patrick’s Day episode! Saber Tooth Dragons are up on tap and they brought the mayhem. (overboard? Overboard. Edit? nah.) Matt Bode, Adam Dick, Andrew Hockenberry and Myke Read are behind this operation. The Reno NV punk band has been playing for about a year, combining members of other Reno bands you may have heard of (Machine Gun Vendetta, Infecto Skeletons, Del Mar) and are kinda really killing it.

You can catch Saber Tooth Dragons TONIGHT! On St. Patrick’s Day at the official starting line of the walk of shame, Shea’s Tavern, with a bunch of other bands. Show starts right around Rock and Roll time… which gives you plenty of time to catch the 7:30 opening night showing of “Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll“, a play by Eric Bogosian, right next door at Good Luck Macbeth Theater. Director Ashley Marie James also is hanging in the studio, taking the place of our very own Nick Ramirez, who is in the show and at rehearsal (again). It’s only got a limited run of SIX SHOWS so this might be your best opportunity to see it. Get your tickets now!

Aaaaand we are BACK! Ha HA!

The Worst Little Podcast – S6 E5 – Download link

Thank you for your patience, please enjoy the complementary mimosas with this episode [NOT INCLUDED]. A big big BIG, sloppy-with-tongue “thank you” to Senior Production Assistant, Nate Sanders for filling in for the Rev while he was away. It’s good to be back, refreshed and invigorated! To that end, we invited Newbound – a new sound in the Reno music collage – to play on the show. Newbound is a Reno, NV post-punk rock band featuring Dana Deitrich, Ry Stolz, Nick Viland  and Kyle Campbell. They’ve got shoegaze appeal, angsty yelling, thoughtful lyrics and fantastic melodic noise jams.

Dana Dietrich - Bass Kyle Campbell - Guitars, Vocals

Fine lads, the lot of em. You can check them out all over social media, their website and music sharing sites – but you really ought to get a hold of them for a Newbound CD – I really like their debut EP. More importantly, go check them out at their show at the end of the month, on March 30, at PB&J’s opening for the I Set My Friends on Fire tour. It will be worth it.

Nick Viland - Guitars Ry Stoltz - Drums

Also joining us this week is one of the Rev’s favorite people in the world: Reno comic, drinking buddy and purveyor of fine flannels, the lovely and talented Vickie Gordon. In addition to busting chops, Vickie is also on the show to promote next weekend’s Ladies of Laughter Comedy Show. Hosted by Sally Mauldin, and with special guests Vickie Gordon and Josie Spadoni, the Ladies of Laughter (LOL!) comedy show stars none other than Kat Simmons, an internationally featured comedian and public speaker. It’s a pretty solid lineup, laugh-o-philes; go see some real comedy at a show!

vickie gordon

Hella. It’s good to be back.
