S14E10 Rhiannon Box- Hello Unicorns, Goodbye Horses
For our last installment of this years Women’s March we have our good friend and multi talented queen of the scene, Rhiannon Box!
When she’s not styling hair, heading up a theater company, creating award winning short films, or jamming with her band Stabby Unicorn, you might catch her at a pinball tournament, or she just might be working on her new solo record for ToneMark Sounds.
We get to listen to two new solo songs, some Stabby Unicorn and her acclaimed cover of Goodbye Horses. We think she’s the cat’s pajamas.
Rhiannon mixes her keyboards with an electronic soundboard thingy and Tony Ashworth is producing the album, adding a hint of industrial rock edge to the space goth atmospheric vibe. It’s cool af and you can dance to it.
We can’t wait to hear the new album and maybe even the return of Stabby Unicorn!
We do a quiz for fun since RhiBox hasn’t been on the show for a while.
We also talk about the upcoming Cover Up 2024 show at the Alturas Cellar stage, put on by the incomparable Mark Earnest and featuring his band Manchild with Rhiannon covering a set of songs by The Cars. Other sets include Earnest’s other band Kanawha covering Soundgarden, the Scattering covering White Zombie, Mr. Johnson and His Loaded Dice covering the Misfits, Roxxy Collie covering REM and One Ton Dually covering Nirvana. That’s right, see Reverend Rory and Nick butcher the classics! One night only! Seriously though, folks have been working hard and it should be a barn burner.
Thanks Rhiannon and thank you listeners.
Life is short and we love you. Good night ladies!
S14E9 Kat Heart- Wild At Heart
We’re halfway through our Women’s March and this week we’re joined by our friend and local folk rock hero Kat Heart! We were going to have one of her bands (Sierra Sirens, Kat Heart and the Business) on but the stars just didn’t align for that. Not to worry, Kat packed up her pedal board full of amazing textures, loops and even a pedal for her old school landline telephone microphone and headed right on over to the Dogwater Studios.
We were delighted by her one woman musical menagerie.
We seem to catch up with Kat every other year, so it’s been amazing to see the commitment, growth and development of her unique psychedelic soundscapes and soulful expressions. Her voice is sometimes soft and gentle and others gritty and powerful. Always interesting and always entertaining. One of Reno’s great ladies making music and memorable performances. Kat, we salute you. Keep up with Kat at katheart.net as well as Instagram and Facebook.
Kadillac Kim gives us the hot shows for your weekend enjoyment and we say farewell to a couple of dear friends and artists who have passed and where and when to see their art and celebrate their lives. Safe home Shannon O’Keeffe and Jess Holden, you truly will be missed.
To all the ladies. Thank you. We see you. We hear you. We love you. Keep going!
Thanks for listening.
S14E8- Kasey Christensen with Liam Kyle Cahill: Rock Soup
Our annual Women’s March continues with the soulful folk sounds of Kasey Christensen accompanied by her boyfriend, local folk hero Liam Kyle Cahill!
We had a ball getting to know this talented singer songwriter with her beautiful vocals and heartfelt songs.
Kasey also owns the popular restaurant Sűp so we talk a bit about that, community and supporting the arts. Both Liam and Kasey were recent grant recipients from the Nevada Arts Council and are both putting out new music with their grants.
A round of the worst little quiz is played and we welcome our cohost Ian back from a long hiatus.
You can catch Kasey and Liam on Wednesday, March 29th 7pm-9pm at Reno Public Market.

#542 S14E7 Robin Robinson-Burgled by Katherine Hepburn
After illness and snowstorms, we are back!
Kicking off our annual Women’s March salute to local ladies who make music, we have a blast from the past, singer songwriter Robin Robinson!
Robin and Nick were friends back in the 90’s, attending open mics and local shows at old school Reno venues like the Blue Lamp and the Zephyr.
They reunited at last year’s Marianarchy music festival where Robin played a beautiful set with a dancer performing with her on a few songs throughout. It was enchanting and special.
Not being able to catch up at the event, Nick was stoked Robin could come in and talk for a spell.
We play a fun round of the worst little quiz including close encounters with rock legends. Robin also gets the lowdown on the Nowhere Nevada movie.
It was a sweet, chill, and fun hang with a new old friend. Thanks for sharing your songs with us Mrs. Robinson! And thanks worst little listeners (especially our Patreon members! Patreon.com/worstlittlepodcast) for joining us. Life is short, and we love you.
S14E6: Bang Marry Kill- Thank You So Hard
For Valentines we get bromantic. Three rad dudes from established Reno bands like Ostracized, Grimedog and Filipendejo among others, Lucas Grimes guitar and vocals, Tyrell Cruz bass and vocals and Kevin Montoya drums and vocals are the new super group and power trio BANG MARRY KILL.
Funky and reminiscent of funny jam acts like Ween, Primus and the more obscure Gluey Brothers.
They’re a rocking dance band really. Super joyful and lighthearted with heavy grooves and cool psychedelic surf tones with a squeeze of desert rock. And Dessert Rock if you’re hungry.
We had a blast with our friends in Bang Marry Kill and get to know Tyrell a little better with a round of the worst little quiz.
You can get down with them at the upcoming blood-spattered valentine show at Alturas’ Cellar stage. Keep collaborating and creating new music Reno! We are definitely loving the results!
Happy VD! Life is short and we love you. Thanks for listening. Thank you so hard!
S14E5-Drought: High and Dry
We had a rocking good time hanging out with Trevor Lame-Vocals, Guitar Cheyenne Cha Cha-Bass and Jake Sticks-the drummer who are now collectively known as brand new baby low fi sonic punk band Drought.
Only a half a year in the life of Drought and they’re already landing some great gigs and of course their debut on our show. Well, that’s not entirely true, drummer Jake also plays bass in doom metal outfit Ozymandias and has been on WLP a couple of times. But never isolated to the drum room, separate from everyone, so it was a whole new experience.
They play us their loose and primal punk rock, warts and all to our delight. They’re not polished but they’re chaotic, salty, playful and a little dangerous. Rock and roll rebels fresh from the garage that Jake plans to turn into a venue.
We have a dirty little quiz and Kadillac Kim shares the fantastic lineup she has booked for this year’s Reno Punk Rock Flea Market. It’s always a treat to meet new bands and watch them grow. We will be keeping our eyes on Drought for sure.
You can catch them February 16 in Nevada City at the Fern with Slutzville and the Arguments as well as headlining The Blood Spattered Valentines Day Show February 17 at the Cellar Stage (aka Alturas) in Reno, with Two Man Lemmon Band, The Poor Devils and next week’s WLP guest; Bang Marry Kill.
Proof that Reno keeps it rocking, new bands are being birthed all the time and we’re glad we get to share a little bit of that raw beauty with you. That’s what we’re here for, after all… Life is short and we love you.
Thanks for listening!
S14E4: No Healer-Nutria
This week on WLP we welcome Nevada City’s No Healer with Justin on drums, Barry guitar and vocals, and Blake on bass. They are a genuine, sonic garage, kickass rock and roll outfit. With influences like the Stooges, Dead Moon and the Sonics this power trio knows how to keep it raunchy, hooky, fast paced and wild.
They’re also funny, with a great chemistry, musically and as bandmates. This became apparent after a juicy worst little quiz.
No Healer is only a couple years old and we hope they stick around to rock the region and beyond for a long time.
They have some music on the usual streaming platforms and their next show is at RMU in Truckee California with The Pedaling Mongos. Guaranteed to be a barn burner. You can keep up with them @Nohealerheals on Instagram and Bandcamp.
Thanks for making the journey guys, we had a blast getting to know you.
Keeping it rock and roll there’s a hot show this weekend at the Cellar at Alturas on Saturday night February 3 with Pussy Velour, Eddie and the Subtitles and Glitter Bats.
Rock and Roll will never die!
Get some. Thanks for listening!
S14E3: That’s What She Said-Canyon White
We are back with folkin’ funny lady Canyon White!
After a lengthy discussion about colonoscopies and cheeseburgers, we dive right into catching up with this longtime northern Nevada musical nomad, and friend of the show.
Canyon always has a full schedule including hosting open mic sessions, radio shows and acoustic performances.
She is embarking on her One Hit Wonder tour and living 2024 with un-resolutions. Canyon is a lot of fun, and we wish her well in her future endeavors, perhaps including a children’s book and album? We think she’d be great at it.
You can find Canyon White on Facebook, Spotify and other streaming platforms.
Life is short and we love you.
Thanks for listening!
S14E2: Death Means Profit: High Desert Crust Punks
Howdy Reno neighbors and neighborenos! We are back with a fresh new band to meet and explore.
It’s 2024 and the young folks are still punk rocking for the betterment of mankind and for the sheer fun, absurdity and love of it all. These antiwar, pro equality anarcho-punx, Death Means Profit are comprised of Lilith vox, Gwen guitar, Silly bass, and Colin drums. They all hail from different regions of northern Nevada and 3/4 are graduating high school this year.
They bring the youthful exuberance and primal kick in the pants the music scene always needs. It’s got a skate punk vibe with the spirit of both English punk, like Subhumans and SoCal hardcore like the Germs. It’s a chaotic underground sound, short songs with a ton of progressive angst. Total freedom to do whatever they want, all making for a wild spontaneous and unpredictable live performance.
Their next appearance will be at the Reno Punk Rock Flea Markets next event. Punk Rock Prom? More on that later from our very own Kadillac Kim, who met Death Means Profit at Neutral Ground at the Holland Project and we just want to thank her for booking the band this week. Kim rules!
Thank you worst little listeners.
Life is short and we love you.
#536 S14 E1 Hardcore ‘24: The Latest Fashion
Welcome back and happy new year! Season 14 kicks off with the hardcore metal act The Latest Fashion!
With local luminaries in the Reno music scene, Chris Tuffino on drums, Benjamin Tyler Brown on bass, Tony Jensen on guitar, Corey Nuckolls also on guitar, and Jeremy Granata bringing the monster vocals. They’re all amazing musicians from other notable bands like Twelve Gauge Facelift, Vampirates, In This Moment and Fervence, just to name a few. They’re like a Reno hardcore super group!
Super tight, super heavy and super rocking. You can tell they all love and enjoy performing with each other. They have genuine chemistry and they’re funny! We had a blast getting to know them and their music, live!
YOU can catch them live, January 20th at Virginia Street Brewhouse opening for Fear Factory, with Cyanate and Orbit Culture. Check in with them on Facebook and Instagram.
It’s great to be back with you worst little listeners. Thanks for 13 fabulous seasons and here’s to another round in 2024! Let the games begin!
